- The Supremes in Afro Vogue singing about peace, understanding and love, a higher love....Stoned Love! Woo! It doesn't get any better than this.
"Stoned Love", written by Kenny Thomas of Detroit and produced by the incomparable Frank Wilson, the record became a World-wide smash hit for the Supremes ( it sounded terrific on the radio as I remember!) It was number one on the R&B Charts during Christmas Week 1970 and remained on the Pop Charts for 12 consecutive weeks!
In this clip from November 13, 1970, Mary Wilson,Jean Terrell and Cindy Birdsong show why they were one of the top groups in the World. Enjoy. Видеоклипы
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Jean Terrell was the best replacement for Diana Ross. She had the perfect combination of sweet and soulful and had the vocal chops to take the Supremes into the 70s.
She was beautiful and talented for sure ,Jean Terrell was great and this was one of the most beautiful songs ever, ofcourse I think to say Jean Terrell could replace Diana Ross is like saying Doris Day could replace Marilyn Monroe , great as Doris Day was she was no replacement for Marilyn Monroe ,that's the level Diana Ross was she was just this firecracker 🧨 or dynamite as they said back then
She was perfect!
Jean Terrell? Not Diana Ross? WOW! SHES BEAUTIFUL
Absolutely x
Better than Miss Ross
In my opinion this was the best song recorded by the Supremes. 💯
💯% right on. Mine too Although many of their songs are brilliant, the hook this one has is outta sight ❤
it also isn’t played often.
I agree this is the best supreme song ever made jean Terrell is beautiful and and has very sexy voice but Diana Ross could never be replaced and I think the supreme was the greatest that came out of berry Gordy mmotoen label some people say the temptations but for me the beautiful supreme queens reigns supreme ❤
Milwaukee - across the lake from Detroit. A white girl raised on Motown. A bunch of 8th grade girls singing this song in gym class. What great memories.
Jean Terrell is superb and a true star! A classic voice in this song and in "Up The Ladder to the Roof". Motown should have backed her with more airtime.
Still can't take it in Mary has left us, sad, she was a real class act. RIP Mary
This is by far one of my favorite Supreme hits.
Defo my favourite, and I liked many of them
Ms. Jean Terrell tore it up.
She sure did!!!
AGREE
Yessss 👍👏
Frank Wilson soul is all over this Motown classic - one of the very best tunes….so uplifting 👍
I lost count of how many.times i listen to.stoned love
Ditto here.
jean terrell was a great addition to the group
Why doesn't anybody make beautiful music like this today ? This kind of music always made your day better no matter how it turned out.
thats the truth
3 beautiful women with angelic voices. A song brought to us from heaven. Thank you ladies xoxoxo
@Christopher Alonge Amen!
I can't believe this is from 45 YEARS ago! It blows away 90% of the "music" on the Billboard top 100 right now!
U Got That Right, Pal!!!
Yeah, you're right there 👍😀
DreamboyNYC
YOU are wrong it blows 99.% of the rubbish we have in the UK
DreamboyNYC yes
+DreamboyNYC Most of the money goes into the videos today. It's been like that ever since MTV arrived on the scene in 1983; the day the music died. So many songs can't stand on their own; eliminate the visuals, and nobody want's to listen because the sounds are mediocre. Look at all the female performers who use their sex to sell the show, but the song itself sounds just, well, bad.
This song has a mesmerizing groove...could listen to it for hours!
That was beautiful my first time seeing this. RIP Mary Wilson
class act all the way. Jean's voice is amazing
I love this lady! Jean Terrell.... My Supreme.
Jean Terrell was a great relacement for Diana. She wasn't Diana, but she was a "legacy voice" who did a great job!
She won out over Diana in sex appeal though.
Jean Terrell and the Supremes were vocally great.
Anthony Hunt the Diana Ross obsessed fans will hate u for saying so 😊
But I am totally in agreement with u !
That makes me happy that people liked my replies on how much i love the song stoned love by jeannie terrel and the supremes
Jean had a great voice, better that Diana technically, but Diana's timbre was captivating. And...no one was ever sexier on stage than the Boss. The way she used her eyes to connect with the audience was almost criminal.
The Supremes were one A-1 class act !!!!! I first heard this song when I was 13 - I'm 63 now and still love it !!!!
Classy ladies this is singing
Can't believe it's been 50 years since I heard this song as a 9 year old kid in NYC! This song is as relevant now as it was then!
One of my all time favourite "New Supremes" song!! Background vocals of Mary and Cindy complimenting Jean on lead!! Whoo ooh ooh Stoned Love!! 👍👍👍
This is, absolutely, totally, one of the culminating anthems of soul. If this does not move you to the depths of your soul then you ain't got a soul........Jean Terrell, Mary Wilson, Cindy Birdsong, thank you so much
Yessir!!!! As one person said Ms. Jean tore it up. Believe it or not,an anthem for all times!
She ripped the rug right out from under the other two Supremes then named the group her name when the creator of the group and the others were fired and not able to sing any Supreme songs..No thanks to Gordy's mistress Diana Ross. The new Supremes were good, very good.but Gordy made sure they would not be better than Diana how? by sabotaging them. like she did Gladys Knight once. all for that young twat who many times sat at Mrs. Gordy's table eating dinner pregnant by her husband in secret so they got her married and put the baby on the Jew she married. Not until less than 10 yrs ago did they go public but who didn't know the girl looked like Berry Gordy with a wig on
@@ninamaldonado2285 They had to go public after Mary Wilson wrote her book and in a very subtle way told the world that Diana's first child's father was Berry Gordy. If I recall correctly, the book said something about.....people noticing the resemblance of Diana's first daughter to Berry Gordy. It's not the exact words, but that said it all. Diana then wrote her Bio declaring that Mary had hurt her badly. Oh really?? Haha! What about Flo and all the other people you hurt so badly Diana? Now you know how it feels.
@@orane3549 oh well said I was just going to say what about Florence Ballard the founding member of the Supremes she started her idea when she was 15 with Mary Wilson. At least that lady spoke out for Florence Ballard I think when it got out what DR and BG did to Florence Ballard. I saw a show with the Supremes watching fans singing thier songs then the Marvelttes came on singing one of thier hits and the compare said would you like to meet the Supremes well they totally blanked DR she tried to shake thier hands but they pulled away but they liked Mary and loved Florence Ballard I mean what's not to like in my opinion it should have been Florence Ballard and the Supremes. I think she'd like that they got back to the Supremes to bad she never lived to see it. RIP beautiful lady Miss Florence Ballard ❤❤❤
@@georginahawcroft8044 Diana Ross is always about Diana Ross and couldn't care less about anyone else except her children. But that's not how the real world works. She's probably on top but quite lonely up there.
Christmas week number one 50yrs ago on the R&B US chart... Jean, Cindy & Mary 's soul anthem of peace & love. 🕊️💕
The 1960s will always have the best music ever. That and this kind of talent will never be duplicated again no matter what kind of computer enhancements are to come that hides the talent of those with not even one once of talent of The Supremes.
I really love how they are sharing the stage and screen. This is a nice clip.
Right, soo effortlessly. No ego, just Unity!
THE SUPREMES (Mary Wilson, Cindy Birdsong & Jean Terrell) in the 1970's
AT THEIR BEST!
I once played this song on my pc 24 hours a day non-stop for 3 whole days. :) ( I obsess about some things sometimes).
+Daniel P Hanover thats pretty cool 3 whole days?AWESOME
+Daniel P Hanover You GO Dan!
+gregory andrews I have Aspergers. LOL

wow! how high were YOU?
i was in my 1st CA earthquake when this was #1 on the radio...Garden Grove memories.
HAPPY 72ND BIRTHDAY VELMA "JEAN" TERRELL (NOVEMBER 26, 2016)
Wow, I've never heard this version before and it's wonderful. Love the piano intro and the more spiritual tone of Jean's opening. In fact, her whole solo gives the song a gospel feel, like it's a love song to God.
My favorite by these great lady Supremes: "Floy Joy"!
It is July 23, 2020 and I am still jamming off " Stone Love💜💜💜....You can't get enough off of "Stone Love....Let's get high!!!!💋💋💋
THAT'S WHAT UP... STONE LOVE GREAT HARMONY
RIP Mary Wilson. A bringer of great joy
Well worth watching for a third time go head supremes rip mary Wilson
I was to young at the time to understand the lyrics "i pray for peace and love amen" Beautiful.
+ruapraia Yes, I also was too young... a mere 11 years old. Now, at 56, my gosh, after all the pain, joy and heartache I have been through, peace and love are the only things -- the ONLY things -- that are important to me.
Amen!!! Don't forget good health also.
We are the same age and I knew and loved this song inside and out back in 1970! Pray for peace!
Paz y Amor.
Those are the words that stuck in my memory. I was 12 when this song debuted.
One of the best if not the best songs from The Supremes!!
A Very Memorable Classic........beautiful legends.
This song still gets me every time. I just love it so much!!
My favorite of all The Supremes songs!
HAPPY 84TH BIRTHDAY .
CYNTHIA "CINDY" BIRDSONG
(DECEMBER 15, 2023)
Really dig this song. Jean was a great replacement for Diana Ross.
IMO Jean Terrell's voice was better than Diana Ross's. She just wasn't the Diva Miss Ross liked to be.
Better than Diana Ross what her and BG did to Florence Ballard at least Florence Ballard would like it that they had gone back to the Supremes sorry she didn't live long enough to see it.
@@orane3549 I'm late but I like jean but Diana Ross was and is the Boss!
@@georginahawcroft8044 Diana Ross is and always will be the boss
@@lindalackey5011 As long as the post is up, you are never late. Diana never had to compete with Jean. If they sang together, it might be clear just who is the "Boss" at singing. 😁
Loved this song.
This is the "1" song that moves me, a 51 yr old man to tears. The message is so powerful and on time during this moment in our history.
And always will be , my friend . AMEN
i love this song, had just moved to garden grove,CA...first earthquake 1 day after my arrival...THIS was #1 song!
I listen to stoned love i lost count and.never get tired of it
@Margaret Roberts It is one of the best to come out of Motown and one of the greatest songs of the 70s!
i LOVE The Supremes. i LOVE this song ! I was 14 years old when this song came out. :)
It's hard to believe it's been 44 years huh? I was 10, psst, but don't tell anyone..... LOL!
Thanks for watching.
DetroitLives313 don't feel bad Detroit, I was 5 when i first heard this magnificent song.
Good Lord, just imagine the money these girls could have made for Motown if they had only been given the support given any other of their atistis. These girls would have owned the disco scene!!!
Yes I do agree with what you said. Barry blew that opportunity.
I remember the first time I heard this song. it was in my sister's 1963 Chevy Corvair, and I thought it was the best song ever! I still love hearing it after all these years. Does everyone remember how GREAT music was then? Motown was the best!
I heard that! We all need a little "Stoned Love" right about now......
Thank you for this great video... beautiful women, great artists, terrific music. Jeane Terrell might as well be looking right into my eyes. Simply divine.
+davidhertzberg She wont if you spell her name wrong ! Jean :-)
This is one that always (always) gets us up on the dance floor
wonderfull music
Thanks for posting, love is what we need in today's chaotic world.
Nice to see Mary and Cindy being part of the group. You did not see Mary or Flo in this way with selfish Diane.
I agree. It's hard to watch videos with Diana.
Given that either of them but especially Flo could sing Diana off the stage.
Together with Touch Me in the Morning and I Heard it Through the Grapevine, this is the greatest of all the Motown songs.
Flawless.
I still pray for peace and love, Amen.
We all must do that Deborah as we are entering a time in our history that we've never experienced before. God Bless you!
Motown Motown Motown Irresistible.
Diana Ross,Jean Terrell,The Supremes...
RIP Mary the word will never see the like again of such pure talent and class act that was the Supremes
Amen..
So much class and grace, love the 40's 50's 60's and the awesome 70's
The best of life is gone, it's all down hill from now on, deep down I think we all know it.
one of my favorite songs
RIP Frank Wilson the co-writer and producer of this legendary classic. We love you and God loves you!
sweet Cindy, sexy Mary and rockin' Jean. love them so, so much.
Nobody’s naked, this will never sell in 2023 . .
I could listen to this song all day... this lineup and the sound they produce is as good as anything from the group's 60s heyday. Forever Supremes.
Timeless
Wow do we need the Supremes today in our (ugly) world. Take me back to my high school days listening to these great artists on the radio. As a young white boy I listened and loved their music and couldn't help myself to sing and clap right along with them. "Life is so short" and their timeless message of love lives on.
I agree. We do need them and making this kind of music so much now. Thank you for watching.
Nice songs, Nice Steps here from the Supremes. Don't know if they could have pulled off the routine with Ms. Ross on board. Nothing but top shelf class here.
Wow, I remember when I was 7 years old and some friends of my family who lived in central California. (Elmore Ranch) The Salcedo Family. Stella used to jam this song and I fell in love with The Supremes. long live the 70's
TODAY IN MUSIC HISTORY
50 years ago this month (October 1970), the Supremes released their album “New Ways But Love Stays” (#12 R&B album charts; #68 pop album charts). This was the group’s 2nd album with lead singer and Diana Ross’s replacement Jean Terrell, and a follow-up to their last album “Right On.”
Featured tracks included “Stoned Love,” “It’s Time to Break Down,” “Thank Him For Today,” and remakes of the Spinners’ “Together We Can Make Such Sweet Music,” Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and the Beatles’ “Come Together.” [10/02/2020]
I had the biggest crush on Mary Wilson! Love to see her move.
@JW OH Same here. She kissed me on the lips one time in front of an arena full of people! Love her! LOL
I always thought Mary Wilson was the finest supreme
Apparently so did Tom Jones...
@@DetroitLives313 OHHHH.. so Mary was two-timin' me! LOL I met her in April 1973 at the taping of a Bob Hope Special. She was freakin' adorable and so warm. A living doll.
@Jack M LOL! If you do a search for The Supremes "Bad Weather Produced by Stevie Wonder" You should find a video of that show you went to.
LOVE IT AND THE SUPREMES
Cindy and Mary always, always worked together like a fine tuned machine with their choreography. Perfect.
Yes they did! Today is Mary's birthday. Happy Birthday to Mary Wilson!
My favorite song by them ❤️❤️
Now this is the version I always liked. The original. The one we heard on the radio!
Jody, it was a huge radio hit for us in the Detroit/ Windsor Canada area. At it's peak it was played just about once an hour on stations like WKNR, CKLW, WCHB and WKLR!
great sound...period of time
thank you Ladies.
Love this song ! The sound of Motown. This was one of the greatest artists ever in the soul time.
Still listening in 2021. Supreme indeed. Love this song.
From the Bahamas. I'm from that era, to think that black america ( I am black and love being black) has gone from this level of greatness to (c)rap music!!! Disgraceful. I salute THE SUPREMES.
if this song doesn't get your toes tapping, you've got no soul!!!
Love me some Mary ❤️💕 Wilson beautifullist supreme ever
I remember driving home from work about two weeks after 9/11 and Stoned Love came on the radio. It gave me hope.
That is a beautiful story. I live in NYC and my birthday is 9/10. I went from being very happy one day to being in complete shock by the evening of the very next. God Bless you.
Thank you. I have always admired the strength that New Yorkers showed doing that time.
Let's pray that it never happens again. Pray for peace as this song says. Peace!
Amen.
you are so awesome
