  • Chasing the highest-elevation fish in the state and the journey to find them.
‪@TroutHowler‬ and I embarked on a really big hike to visit the highest stocked lake in the state of Utah while camped in the shadow of Kings Peak. This amazing trip was the product of many years of research and preparation.
We hiked for many miles through incredible landscapes to get to our camp, which was over 15 miles away from the trailhead. The campsite was absolutely perfect! We camped at approximately 11,400ft in elevation.
Our target lake still held fish and did not leave us empty-handed, even showing us some nicer specimen before we left. One fish was caught on jigs and the rest were caught on the fly rod.
This was a bucket list type of trip for me and I can't thank TroutHowler enough for the excellent company and his help to keep going on the trail.
I highlight some new and old gear of mine (not sponsored) and discuss the lakes we visit, plus the others within the Henry's Fork drainage, which we hiked through in order to get to our destination.
Some wildlife was observed along the way and, like usual, some of the incredible geology is ogled over.
I hope you enjoy watching as much as I enjoyed putting this together. Thank you and please consider subscribing. I'd really appreciate it.
Special thanks to ‪@LittleAndy1936‬ (Cordell M Andersen) for the many works he has published online and in print to provide context and inspiration to the rest of us who are willing to go find out!

Looked like a great trip. Those were some long miles in just 2 days. I did that once before in almost that same itinerary and I paid for it. The painful hiker hobble for two days after I remember. Glad you caught some fish even a few nice ones too. Well done. That looked like a challenging lake. I've hiked past the lower one multiple times but never fished it. Beautiful area up in there. The Uintas are AWESOME! Hope you did not hurt too much after this adventure. No matter, it was great to check off another destination off your wish list. Take care and have a great day.

@Packsalot To be 100% transparent, I paid a heavy toll for it. I was worthless for 2 day and the hobble stayed with me for a couple more. I'm glad I paid that toll at home, though, rather than with gear on my back. Leaving on day 2 was a good choice.

I love the pale color of those brookies. They look like arctic char. Nice job getting to them and catching them! Thanks for sharing! Probably best to not name the lake though. Even though it's difficult to get to, the Uintas are getting overrun and lakes like this can still get over fished easily. Just my $0.02.

@mmiller73 I usually don't drop names for most of the places I visit, but seriously, if someone wants to come and do this, I hope they will. There was no hesitation on my end for this trip, including place names.
That may bother some people, but it was ultimately my work and my choice.

"If you don't do it this year you'll only be a year older!" 7 years, well done! Great base camp. Great goal to check off. That was insane to see it come all the way to the surface. Congrats on accomplishing your goal. Pretty fish. That drop was easy compared to how they were dropped in by the DWR.....lol. That was a great Uinta Brookie.
