Hi Stevie, thanks for all the info. Helped me out a great deal. Just got my first song accepted on AJ after many months of trying. This was after first getting a soft rejection. Thought I would let others know the reason in case it helps someone else. Even though I had my MP3's at 320 kb / the sample rate was 48kHz. (should be 44kHz for wav & MP3) make sure to check this in your MP3 converter.
Great video, just one question for you. At 14:38 you breezed by the Publisher section. Based on my knowledge and research(additional research is still in progress), if you have an established LLC, you should be able to use the same name that is registered with the state, and signup on sesac, BMI, or ascap as a publisher. By NOT listing a publisher, you are missing out on additional revenue you are entitled to. Collecting performance royalties as a writer is only half of what you are owed. Do you have any insight to this?
This is a great question. If you are NOT listing a publisher, you will still collect the entirety of your royalty share (writing and publishing.) The main reason people setup publishing companies (or 'self-publish') is for tax purposes. Here's a helpful article on the subject lawyerdrummer.com/2017/09/musician-create-publishing-company/
Stevie B Music Thank you for the prompt response. To be honest, this seems like a MAJOR omission on ASCAP’S behalf. The language directly from their site clearly states you will only receive half your income if you do not register as a publisher as well. www.ascap.com/help/my-ascap-membership/join-as-publisher Is this simply a money grab to obtain more revenue? The tax reduction of income via a company as opposed to an individual is of major benefit. Perhaps that is why it is not common knowledge publicly?
@@dialekmusic298 I looked into this a bit further, it seems that every PRO has a different policy. Many PROs don't require you to create a publishing entity to collect and pay those out to you by default. That being said, I would create one for ASCAP as I'm sure it's not too difficult to set that up!
@Stevie B Music Thank you for the follow up! I will register as a writer and publisher for ASCAP. I subscribed to your channel as well, so keep the content coming my friend! Stay healthy and much success to you. 👍🏾
This is a great video. I now see why i was not accepted. I figured it was the mix, because i left a little breathing room- not a fan of brick walling- but i see it was my formatting. I wasn’t aware i needed to make my own watermarked tracks. Thanks a ton!!
Music grid provide their own watermarks over your tracks as well. I had two tracks accepted, and when i emailed them to inquire, they immediately got back to me, were very nice.
Hi Stevie, first, nice video, you explain so well!!! I have a question, AJ for you, is the best pahe to submit music for licensing? Thanks! Cheers from Argentina

Hey Stevie, great guide! However I have a question that I am not sure of its answer. I am an exclusive seller on AJ and I'd like to promote my own items on RUclips, how does this work? I read I should only upload the watermarked track but I'm not sure that's a good idea. Any input on this topic? Thanks! 😊
I’ve seen many authors promote their AJ tracks on RUclips without the watermark. I’m not convinced AJ is policing that in any way, but it’s hard to say whether it will make a difference to your sales in any significant way. RUclips is super saturated with copyright free music channels, and prospective buyers are searching the AJ catalogue, not RUclips. Just my opinion! I once experimented with this myself and concluded it wasn’t worth the time, that being said there are success stories. For example Morning Light’s channel blew up on RUclips and that translated into sales for him, but I think those cases are rare.
@@Steven_Beddall yeah the RUclips algorithm is not so easy to crack tbh but it's still worth the shot 😅 I appreciate your answer a lot, thank you mate!
Hi Stevie, thank you so much for the content! I've got a question though. Do I need to register the composition name and ISRC with a PRO when submitting, or only providing my affiliation number is enough? Thanks in advance!
When uploading to AJ you aren't required to provide PRO info or have the composition registered with a PRO, that's totally optional. There is an info box where you can provide that info when uploading, and I just include my PRO, name and IPI number. Hope that helps!
Hey Stevie! thanks for your informative video, I'm currently a member of BMI, should I every time when uploading music to audio jungle to upload it to BMI before? Or I can just type my composer name and ID? in audio jungle
You have to register the tracks w BMI in order to receive royalties but for the time being you can just put your name, IPI and PRO affiliation in AJ and you can register the songs later if you want. Royalties can be collected retroactively
Ahmed Labeeb the preview track must contain all versions you are uploading, if you’re only uploading 1 version, then the preview track would be the same length by default 😊
