  • On my 1991 Hunter 30, I replace the old plywood that my fuel pump, sea strainer and fuel filter were mounted on - with King Starboard. And install a new Facet electric fuel pump and Perko sea strainer.

Every thing I needed to know but not so much 😂 but you are amazing!!! Remember I told you it was dangerous to wear your ring when you are doing that

Stuffing box access on your boat beyond belief.

I don’t have a stuffing box… i have a PYI dripless shaft seal. I had the 1st one installed about 20 years ago.

Thanks for posting these how-to video's. I changed out my mechanical fuel pump today (I don't have an electric) and it went surprisingly easy. I had prepped myself by watching your video on bleeding the fuel system, but it only took a few pumps of the hand lever. I checked out my plywood the water strainer is mounted to and it appears in good shape still, but my sea strainer looks like your old one did. The new bronze ones are pretty, but pricy. Did you consider putting in a cheaper plastic replacement?

No, I didn’t look at pricing the plastic ones. I could have just simply replaced the gaskets and my old one would have been fine. But when I was loosening one of the rods, one broke off. I priced out the part and would have had to buy all the rods and they were ridiculously expensive. So, I decided to just replace the whole thing. I originally discussed all this in the video, but decided to cut it because the video ran so long. I would just keep the old strainer if it isn’t leaking. They can be cleaned, but that isn’t necessary either (my new one will be green soon too). Thank you for commenting. Making these videos is worthwhile when I hear it actually helped someone (see my mom’s comment lol).

Thank you for the video! I wonder what are your toughts about having an electric fuel pump before the lift pump on the engine? I am doing some research at the moment since I had some episodes stalling my engine (same as yours) which got fixed by bleeding the system. Would the eletric pump prevent a shortage of fuel? (aka make the leaks less impactfull on the overall system)

@@jean-danielmathieu9223 More easily bleeding the air out is only real advantage of the electric fuel pump that I’m aware of. Otherwise you’re using the small lever pump on the engine. With that said, my engine has been starting much better with the new pump. But that may be a coincidence. The only time I’ve had any stalling was after someone else changed the fuel filters and didn’t bleed it.
