What weight gear oil did you use ?
I don’t know off the top of my head, but I know I put a screen shot of the page from the owner’s manual with their recommendation for gear oil with and without towing. In the video I discussed the weights and the bottles were displayed on the tailgate table.
You would think that if you have a lot of metal shaving you would want to take the cover off and cleaning all the metal shavings out...and inspect whats going on ?
A couple things on that topic. I asked the mechanic at the Jeep shop who does all aftermarket installs on my Rubicon. He said very fine metal shavings is normal and that’s why the plug is magnetized. Larger pieces would be a concern. I would have still kept a close eye on it, but as it turns out I got a new carrier. It’s a long story, but I had a noise from the rear when making left turns. I thought maybe it was the right rear bearing making the noise when under load. It was under warranty so I took it to a Jeep dealership. They focused on the rear differential. After 2 Jeep dealers and several months: they replaced gearing, then the entire carrier assembly, and the rear axle (twice). Still had the noise. Because it was under warranty they were just replacing parts. I took it to the Jeep shop I use. We drove it and they focused in on the rear right braking. The rotor had an in perfection on it. They slapped a used one on they had laying around in the shop. Problem fixed in about 30 minutes. I guess that’s been over a year now and no more noise.
Thank you. Simple and easy!!
Thanks!
I've seen foldable ovens by winnerwell intended for wood stoves but never thought there were others
@@ChristopherAdrien-zt7tb I think the Winnerwell is better construction. It looks sturdier than the Coleman. But I wanted a propane oven. (one that works with my propane stove)
@tcsadventures I was looking at the winnerwell foldable oven because I have a couple of tent stoves. Recently I can't decide between having a 12v oven such as road chef or a folding one 🤔 😫. Perhaps I can research 12v heating elements?
@@ChristopherAdrien-zt7tb We’ll see how much longer this one lasts. I’ve looked at stand alone propane ovens where the propane connects directly to the oven. But they’re pretty big and more expensive.
TEMSCO SUCKS!!!! USE A DIFFERENT PROVIDER! They stuck my wife and I in the back seat sandwiched between two others at the window seats. We were made to feel like CARGE! Two more passengers were in the front. EVERYONE had great views EXCEPT us! I asked if I could switch on the way back, and they said no. We had NO good views. Everyone's weight was similar. This company does not care about customer satisfaction. $1050 RIP-OFF
Something a lot of boaters in the tropics of Australia use is the big pool tablets. The ones that go in the floatie thing in pools. Trichlor tablets. Kills mould spores. If oat is closed up for a long time, the smell can be a bit strong. I have mine in empty ice cream containers, lid off obviously.
All these campgrounds to where they pk you in like sardines Not my cup of tea But have 1 of those ovens and they. Work Great
Makes me hungry. Ya I camp where my nearest neighbor is a gunshot away. I also have about 12 or 13 originals made in USA liquid fueled Colman stoves from the 1940's to the 1960's all in good working order, ya Im a nut.
Thanks
What type of thread lock is that? I’ve never seen a product that gets applied after bolts are installed.
@@miniken1 I could be wrong (I usually am), but I think he’s using it to see if the nut loosens later. I have a friend who owns another Jeep shop and he puts a thin paint mark line across the bolt and nut during installation of parts. It makes later inspection easy to see if a nut is backing off the bolt (if the line on the nut and bolt are no longer in line). I think he’s doing the same thing with the thread lock. I suppose to, it could be of some help in keeping a nut from loosening. I don’t know the brand of thread lock he was using. I’m sure someone will let me know if they think I’m wrong.
Any particular reason why you can't use the spring U-bolt plates for the sway bar disconnects? Or is welding of the tabs absolutely necessary?
is this the correct way to mounth the shock ? shock boot up ? or down ?

I recently purchased a 1989 30 Hunter in Fl sight unseen. I took a chance buying and paying for the boat with out seeing it. Very happy with the boat and the couple who sold it to me, they could not have been better people. I decided to name the Boat "Blind Date" for obvious reasons. Just today i came across your video and surprise surprise... Thanks for all the great videos!!
@@skiffygear Lol! My origin story is a little different. I met my wife on a blind date 34 years ago. I hope you enjoy your Hunter as much as we have. We just came back from sailing to a nearby island for a week and will be going again in September. We are not your typical boat owners. We still get a lot of use out of our boat after 20+ years. I have a couple more videos to post on Spain, but after that I’ll post 2 videos on boat maintenance that you might be interested in.
Thank you for the video! I wonder what are your toughts about having an electric fuel pump before the lift pump on the engine? I am doing some research at the moment since I had some episodes stalling my engine (same as yours) which got fixed by bleeding the system. Would the eletric pump prevent a shortage of fuel? (aka make the leaks less impactfull on the overall system)
@@jean-danielmathieu9223 More easily bleeding the air out is only real advantage of the electric fuel pump that I’m aware of. Otherwise you’re using the small lever pump on the engine. With that said, my engine has been starting much better with the new pump. But that may be a coincidence. The only time I’ve had any stalling was after someone else changed the fuel filters and didn’t bleed it.
Good tip. I had the same motor (2022) fail to start on me after its first off-season storage. Had to diagnose and remedy the issue by cleaning the carburetor while on the water. I always run my motors dry after every use and never had this problem with my 2018 6hp Tohatsu during the 4 years that I had it (very reliable motor). The carb jets in the new 9.8 became clogged after its first season. Will be draining the carb using this method before putting it away from now on.
@@intothewild9282 It’s worked for me. No more gunked up carb. Always starts on the 1st or 2nd pull. It’s been a good motor. Thanks for watching!
Is it necessary to bleed air from the fuel system at the injectors? I've seen one video on Yanmar service that demonstrated bleeding it at the injectors, the others are all like this and only show bleeding at the bleed screws at the primary and secondary fuel filters.
I have never had to bleed air at the injectors. I believe there are circumstances that might require it, but it has not been my experience thus far.
It was very helpful thank you
@@kennethsteinhilber9254 I’m glad it helped!

Where should I buy the replacement gaskets? Any suggestions friends?

Maybe a long shot seeing this, but we have the exact same motor and I can’t seem to find the air fuel mixture screw on this carb without taking it all the way off. Can you help me out?
@@walkerphillips4203 You may have already fixed your problem… I have not had your issue, so I don’t have any experience with it. But I found 2 articles that claim it can’t be adjusted. The first involves a Tohatsu 9.9 (?) and the person claims he’s a mechanic and does give some pretty convincing details. (particularly covering other carb issues) and Includes a parts/service diagram. https:www.justanswer.com/boat/5bbfk-adjust-fuel-mixture-tohatsu-9-9-hp-stroke.html The other is just a lay person. forums.ybw.com/threads/tohatsu-9-8-outboard-stalling.356296/ Even if you have an adjustable mixture screw - you can cause a lot of problems if you don’t know how to make a correct adjustment - particularly when the problem is actually something else. @@walkerphillips4203 It’s definitely worked for me. I constantly had carb problems before and now I never do.
Sooooooooooooooper fantastic. Awesome.
Nice video. I'm looking at one on Craig list for $10, new. Is that a good deal in your opinion? Also, does that black plastic handle suffer any melting from being close to high flames?
It’s $50 on Amazon. $10 new is really cheap if it’s actually a Nordic waffle iron. We haven’t had any problems with the handles.
@@tcsadventures The ad has 4 pictures of the waffle iron and 2 are of the gray box and cornmeal with blueberry compote waffle recipe. Looks legit to me, and I think I'll pull the trigger on it! Thanks for your feedback, tcsadventures 👍
Nice video FYI. The oil on Jalama beach is natural seepage from the entire Santa Barbara channel for the last million years. The first great oil platform blowout was in SB in the late 1960's. Recent LIDAR studies have proven massive reserves of oil in the channel to downtown LA. Beached humpback whales are not uncommon on Central Coast beaches all the way up to Oregon..
Do you have a model number or size? for the 5/8's washer? what material are they? did you use new ones in this video?
If you’re referring to the engine oil drain plug: it’s a metal washer and I didn’t replace it. I don’t know the part number. If you’re referring to the lower unit gear oil drain plug and level check screw gaskets: At 8:58 on the video I explain that I’m replacing them and show the OEM package with part number on the screen. The OEM gaskets aren’t metal, paper or rubber. Maybe some type of fiber.
Just saw your video, I have the identical one here in Florida. We're at about 85k miles... any mechanical problems you've had with it? So far we're good.... just wondering, thanks
Only a couple of small things. The heater stopped working and an emission sensor. Both covered under warranty. It’s been a great vehicle! We drove it from CA to TN camping across the country. Check out the video of us rock crawling in the Mojave desert. It performed really well.

Thee old ship Schwack? Eh?
You can also hook the power cables to your starter.
Great video. What is the torque spec when you tightened the drain plug back?
That’s a great question that I don’t know the answer to. I found info on the torque for the cap screws, but not the drain plug. It’s surprising how hard it is to find torque specs.
@@tcsadventures Yeah! it seems just tighten it enough like you did should be enough. Perhaps ARB should publish something.
Those were thick steaks it would have been nice the see how the insides turned out.
Other than that, how did you like the video lol? I think they were medium to medium rare. I like to cook them in the oven to get the center done. The Coleman oven does a pretty good job.
We bought a Hunter 38 that smelled like an old stone basement. We tried everything that the other boaters recommended. In the end on a chance at Ace hardware we boaught a gallon of Odoban ™. It was the only thing that worked. Now all we have to do is keep the boat dry and it's been over two years, all is well.
I think an old stone basement would have been a big improvement from what my boat smelled like when I bought it, lol! Did you just spray the Odoban on everything or did you scrub/clean everything with it? I’ve never used it.
@@tcsadventures Hello, We soaked the cusion covers in a bucket with the Odoban mixed in. It was instant. They went under water smelly and came back up free from odor. We also mixed up some for a spray bottle and used that to wipe everything down.
I’m glad it was successful! Enjoy your Hunter!

Nice looking jeep, congrats. I always thought the shackles where supposed to be at a 45º angle to get a smoother ride. I'm currently looking for a solution to it. Any thoughts?
I have no complaints about the way my CJ drives now. Superlift was a big improvement over the Rough Country springs. As to the shackle angle, I left that to Dustin. He works almost exclusively on Jeeps so he’s the expert. I can tell you that when I do the work myself (more on my sailboat diesel and outboard than my Jeeps) I almost always talk to tech support. I would rather get the manufacturers advice than opinions on line. Whichever shackle you go with you can call tech support and usually get great advice. In terms of an update, after the new lift, shackles, and steering upgrades - the jeep rides and handles much better. I had really bad bump steer before the upgrades and the RC springs were so stiff it felt like riding in a covered wagon (or at least what I imagine a covered wagon felt like). Thanks for watching and commenting!
Maybe if you had tilted your motor upward it would come out the inspection hole using the adapter with the motor off.
I believe the owner’s manual tells you to have the motor tilted down. If I had used muffs to cover the water inlets or gotten the water pressure higher it probably would have worked. It’s so easy just to run the motor that I didn’t work that hard to get it to work. Someone that does it all the time without running the engine will eventually enlighten me. Thanks for your question!
What about holding the hose up to the inspection hole and get water going into it backwards with the motor off? Is that a good idea?
I’m obviously no expert, but I don’t think that would work for a variety of reasons. That hole is too small to get in the volume of water needed and the motor is designed for the water to come out of the pee hole - forcing it to come out somewhere it’s not designed to, probably isn’t a good idea. I stick to the owners manual and tech support. But like I said in your other comment, someone will educate me on how to do it without running the motor. Probably water inlet muffs. Thanks for watching!
Thats not a 2GM20 its a 2GM20F
Thanks so much for your comment! Not sure if you watched the video, but at the 58 second mark I put “2GM20F” on the screen below the shot of the engine. True the title is the generic 2GM20, but for an oil change and fuel filter change it’s irrelevant. If the video was focused on the cooling system then obviously the fact that it’s also fresh water cooled would be relevant. Thanks again for your comment.
