I have friends and relatives in Indiana. I haven't been up there but they say Alabama is pretty much Indiana South. Country folk who like to have a good time. I dare say both states have changed a lot since the mid 80s unfortunately.
The great thing about this is how natural everything sounds compared to most of the over-produced late 1980s music. It's a brave man who can go against all the fads and trends of the time. This sounds timeless while most of the other music of the time sounds dated. I salute you John ! btw his recent albums are excellent too.

Funny, I grew up listening Mellencamp. Many of his songs including this one showed me as a farm boy that people of different color can get along and ... enjoy each others company. He is the only performer that I know that speaks the soul of the American farmer. I grew up on a farm in Indiana; now live in NYC. Most of my inspiration to know more about the world and people of other skin tones came from Mellencamp and Lionel Ritchie.

Never heard this song until driving away from Grand Canyon on one of my solo trips. Great tune. Some memories are forever. And yes, VISIT THE GRAND CANYON. Plan a week.
Every incarnation by every album of this man has been filled with masterpieces. I rank him head to head with all the greats from Dylon to Springsteen to McCartney, etc. This artist is the real thing, what historians look for to understand an age.
I love all kinds of music. But, this song touches my very soul. I feel free when I hear this song. I feel awoken and revived. There should be more music like this through out the world to bring peace to us all. May God bless us all..,.,.....
Heard this song in 1987 as a Scottish 17yr old & asked for the vinyl record immediately. Loved it then and still do now! JM has some big songs but this I believe is my favourite!
JCM was one of my favorites growing up in the 80's, now his music takes me places that I had long forgotten. I've always thought he had this certain appeal and especially in this video he really shows us his true self, the man is just so genuine. Meg Ryan is one lucky lady!
Saw him at Hershey when he was 50. Fogerty at 60 followed! They met at Farm Aid. What a gift these two were. A guy from the farmland, heart of America!
There’s a good life, right across this green field and each generation stares at from afar…this cat and album has been such a consolation throughout the 37 years since it dropped , on my heart, head and everything after. From start to finish, Lonesome Jubilee, is impeccable…
"Paper in Fire" (the song and this video): impactful, loving, charming, and beautiful. "Check it Out" is a monumental, universal, anthem... but also a deeply personal, down-to-the-bone prayer, to get some insight into the life that you are living, that you willingly took on, and that you love, but that you don't quite understand.
I've always loved JCM's music; what is more is that I respect him. He is still helping people, and sharing those great songs. How many artists, these days, do that?
Wow... I truly love this! Given these unprecedented times, it's so comforting for me to see this video. I'd almost forgotten about it, but here it is again in all its glory. Black... white... all races side by side, just enjoying life and each other so beautifully with everyone caught up in the moment for this song. The Arts can truly unite, brothers and sisters! Amen +
Have not seen this since I was 10yro. 47 now and I have noticed soooo many songs that when I was younger I really loved but had no clue what they were about. Boy when you here songs from the past, you learn real fast what they are all about. And the lessons they thought us.
I love to watch this video, so many parts of this are just exceptionally outstanding. I love the way everyone is moved by the music, in a time in our country where there is do much hate this makes me forget all that stupid shit, if just for a few minutes. It gives me chills and true happiness watching this ❤❤❤

I'm not a vid fan, BUT LOVE this one:)--It's real-life..lol
A true American artist! What a song! CRANK IT UP!
Honestly, if this song doesn't touch your soul, your already dead, just haven't stopped breathing yet!
Hello... Heeeellooooo reality check!!! And re-check!!
Amen!
MTV... video back in the day. still one of my favorites......WOW.......all American.....thank you for a blast from the past 😉..,.
Never heard this song until driving away from Grand Canyon on one of my solo trips. Great tune. Some memories are forever. And yes, VISIT THE GRAND CANYON. Plan a week.
A masterpiece - there is no better compliment!
I think the part where gives the lil girl a kiss is so sweet. Dancing with the Older woman @ the end was so cool. U go John...
That was my sister we're grown now but that was me and her in Charlton lane in Savannah ga
@@tashamikle2329 You probably never how famous he was or going to be. That was literally a life time experience....I'm sooo happy for you..💯💯💖💖🇺🇲
Sadly that sweet innocent gesture would now be considered child rape or abuse.
@@tashamikle2329 that's awesome 🤘 do you know who the old woman is he's dancing with at the end
That was my aunt
One of the greatest songwriters of our generation!
underrated
This song & video is my favorite! The music, the words & the people all joining in to enjoy. My favorite & will never tire of this song. ❤❤
Every incarnation by every album of this man has been filled with masterpieces. I rank him head to head with all the greats from Dylon to Springsteen to McCartney, etc. This artist is the real thing, what historians look for to understand an age.
Johnny Cougar......
@@craigchesnut4139 Sounds legit ...
John going back to the essence and the origins of Rhythm & Blues...
THERE ARE NO MORE MUSICIANS THAT CAN DO ...THIS . 🤘😔👌💨
I love all kinds of music. But, this song touches my very soul. I feel free when I hear this song. I feel awoken and revived. There should be more music like this through out the world to bring peace to us all. May God bless us all..,.,.....
Definitely
Heard this song in 1987 as a Scottish 17yr old & asked for the vinyl record immediately. Loved it then and still do now!
JM has some big songs but this I believe is my favourite!
I love John, he is so down to earth and very talented and like I always say, VERY attractive.
Thank you for the love and support, it’s nice seeing you here.
Fantastic song, fantastic singer
Damn...I love John!!! Great music done with style and class!! Love you John....love your music, your dancing, and your hair!! Terri
This song and “Check it Out” just put me in a better mood immediately. He just writes so many different style tunes - never followed a formula.😊
Not so sure for me ... This song gives me anxiety (but in a good way) ...
I LOVe This song! Best EVER ❤
Still listening July 4th 2024.
BTW.. what baseball jersey is the other guitarist wearing?
I've always loved JCM's music; what is more is that I respect him. He is still helping people, and sharing those great songs. How many artists, these days, do that?
Good memories and thank you..
Shot in the alley behind my house. Woke up one morning and John Cougar was singing outside my bedroom window. Trippy.
Where exactly?
Very cool!!! What state? I wondered where it was filmed.
Savanna Georgia
you gotta be kidding! but that must be true...no one can make that up! great great story thanks for sharing!
Savannah is the oldest city in the U.S. state of Georgia
Amen +
Just watching this video makes my heart happy😊
That's a baaadaaasss song. Thank you for it.
i agree
Gary Jeffers sure is!
Have not seen this since I was 10yro. 47 now and I have noticed soooo many songs that when I was younger I really loved but had no clue what they were about. Boy when you here songs from the past, you learn real fast what they are all about. And the lessons they thought us.
Music bringing us ALL together! America at its best.
Paper in fire. And " check it out". His finest. Pure Americana. Heartfelt, touching, insightful, and rocking.
This is called been there, done that and love and understanding! You go❤
I love to watch this video, so many parts of this are just exceptionally outstanding. I love the way everyone is moved by the music, in a time in our country where there is do much hate this makes me forget all that stupid shit, if just for a few minutes. It gives me chills and true happiness watching this ❤❤❤
John Mellencamp is a musical genius. I fucking love his music so much... he is by far one of (if not the) most progressive musicians of his generation... His music is his art, and it is truly incredible to behold.
Oh my!!! This musical innovativeness is where it's at!!! All the instruments and vocals are dancing with each other... simply brilliant...body🌌rush🎶licks!!🎉
