But they would have to change the whole story for that since they made Madam Giry into Nadir's character for the show. To do that would push back Giry's character and change a lot about the show, it wouldn't be the same show anymore that introduced so many to the original book.
No offense intended to Mr. Jacoby, but actors have been digging into the characters and finding how that affects each one of them in a different way since the show opened in London in 1986.
I saw this production when it toured the UK. you cant fault the quality of the acting but in all fairness the set cuts corners in so many places, it just doesn't have the same spectacle as the original productions on Broadway and in London.
You just don't try to change the sets. It's much too bright. It's also not respectful to Maria. The original show is the only show to me. This show is just a "light budget" version. It lacks in many areas.
It is so misleading how the advertising for this production boasts that it's "bigger, better, and more dazzling" than the original. It is opposite that. The music is the same beautiful music , but it's quality in story, set, and costumes is akin to Kensington palace being redecorated in IKEA. The original was/is a magical phenomenon. You can't really top "magical phenomenon", so I just don't understand the point of this one.
Correct, the original commenter didn't say the story wasn't the same, he said "quality in story" was lacking. Very different. The touring version makes choices in storytelling that are not going over well, such as the Phantom being more villainous and less likeable, Christine considering suicide on the roof, and placing the ring on the desk rather in his hand at the finale.
1. It's not a play it's a musical.
2. The Phantom isn't an actual ghost.
Has that guy ever even seen the show?
They need to add in Nadir (the Persian) at some point. He was a large part of Leroux's book!

It's better on broadway, there's no doubt about that

Ruben Amaya Maria designed a lot of these sets. The souvenir book showed a lot of her ideas and they’re pretty close to the final result
bitchass I own the souvenir book and there’s a whole page about how they were able to redesign the scenic design without her

keelieak The story is exactly the same. I’ve seen the tour twice and broadway twice.
bitchass Nobody said the story changed you idiot

I'm surprised they didn't have whomever was the Phantom in this video
I just...I dont like it as much as the original. Good luck to the actors and crew though
A ghost o.o
I saw this and was not really impressed with it.
