How can you not love this guy. His voice is insane. I was 5 years old when i heard this song for the first time. His voice is therapeutic, its so beautiful. I caught myself dancing when i heard this on my headphones while waiting for the bus. Everybody was staring and i just thought... Well at least you're no friend of mine. I can dance if i want to, and i really want to. Cant wait to see them next year. I signed up as a volunteer at belgium oostend festival next year just to see them.
You can see the benefit of his classical training (he comes from a family of classical musicians) in how he protected his voice and in his ability to use it. Pop and rock musicians who have received classical vocal training are often noticeable for how little deterioration there is vocally with age. A lot of heavy metal singers in particular deliberately get full professional training, because heavy metal singing can all too easily lead to irreparable damage, so you need professional training to preserve it. It is after all their key resource. Ivan obviously isn't in the heavy metal genre, but his training means he can a sing a song as well as he could forty years ago.
Originally the band was Doroschuk and his two brothers on bass and guitar. When Ivan reformed the band in 2010 I don't know why his brothers were not involved.
A little rough, but mad props for playing every note and all vocals live, also improvising on the synth sounds. It was groovin toward the end.. good fun.
I have absolutely loved Men Without Hats since I first heard and saw them play on Citadel Hill in Halifax, N.S. in the 90s and was simply awestruck by them when they played in the Misty Moon on Barrington St. Halifax. I was standing directly in front of lead singer Ivan whom I've loved and adored since. I love his expressions his quirkiness his dancing absolutely everything about him and the band and I have almost all of their albums. He's also friends with my brother Craig Brown Musician/Drummer who was with me at the Misty Moon. I hope he and his mates are doing well. I'm listening to them still and more so since I'm in hospital likely through Christmas. Lots of love and Merry Christmas to you xoxo
1:10-1:15 this reminds me of the kids that would go into the sears at the mall to the electronics department and start playing the keyboards on the shelf
The song was a phenomenal classic but the people on the synth things ruined it. Ivan still saved it the best he could tho but even he couldnt save this shipwreck sadly
This is my favorite one from that whole decade. Just epic. Would do anything, anything, to sing along and dance to this live but they’ve never been to my country.
@@watsonjimclip2778A drum machine. There doesn’t need to be a person on stage controlling that. The bass is probably also a loop or is played by one of the keyboardists. This is just a fact of entirely electronic music.
Is it me or does he really look like Christopher Lambert and he still sounds just like the record and epic use of backing vocals so impressed. Love this song
🎉love Ivan he is simply forever I was just a child when he sung this beautiful number yet something so enigmatic and unforgettable about his human presence and meaningful voice that will last me always ❤❤❤❤❤
Wow, sounds like a Fisher Price keyboard for kids. I thought most tv show appearances, especially live, are done with playback. This is one of those times they should have!
Hey, weather-girl with funny blonde highlights! Who, me? Yes, you! Can you play an instrument? No, but my sister once got a flute. Perfect! Get behind the nord lead please. What? That thing with the same color as your shoes. Ah, that!? Yes, get behind it and make me the safety dance. Safety what? But i don't... two, three and.. dadadada - dada, dadadada - dada
Safe to say, if the original song used the synth's built in arpegiattor or one of those early "still tighter than modern MIDI" sequencers to play a riff, best stick with that, and don't try to replicate it manually, live, at 7:00am, on national television...
Are they actually playing or is the keyboard just a bad recording or the acoustics in the studio? I recently saw them in concert and they were excellent
even in 2024 a masterpiece, thank you ivan!
Masterpiece? It's a hackjob.
His voice got stronger and the song got better. That is rare. Hey lets dance! I love it!
Even does his own echo, what an absolute legend.
Che bel pezzo...sempre attuale
more a lack of suited equipment
Who needs it,..@@goofycker
He still has it. I loved this song, I was in my early 20s , 2 kids, cooking and feeling free. It was a fun song
"...Can you play keyboard?"
"No, but I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night"
Lol
One of the best YT comments ever! Well done!
😂
Lol
too funny. The poor keyboards make me think it might be live
This is great ! the song is great!
From a 64 year old who has loved this song since it's inception

If you'd told me 40 years ago that I'd be listening to this again on a 'laptop' on a thing called "RUclips" and STILL love it :D
Let's just listen to it again! LOL
The singing is on point, the keyboard is not even close lol
"on point" 13 years old confirmed
Nurman LeWzrd stfu nerd
KILLKID "nerd" pizza face comfirmed
(`・ω・´)
Yeah I agree. He still sounds exactly like he did 30 years ago ha. Sound is great especially for something that small in a news station.
I'm guessing the lead singer is the only original member, and the rest of the band wasn't even born yet
Ivan Doroschuk is the singer
Yeah everyone else is replaced
Wow you think?
Originally the band was Doroschuk and his two brothers on bass and guitar. When Ivan reformed the band in 2010 I don't know why his brothers were not involved.
AAAAAHHH HAHAHAHA!!!
He has the voice ....
I miss the madness and variety of the 80s...great to hear a real band. ❤
A little rough, but mad props for playing every note and all vocals live, also improvising on the synth sounds. It was groovin toward the end.. good fun.
The dude opening up his PRS is wicked on guitar !!! 💥😳 😎
Man his voice hasn't aged one bit and sounds amazing
I agree
Pure brilliance, i loved the video in the 80’s
His voice is still similar to the 80's.
Minus the faux whatever accent he used then.
@@jzen1455 Yeah
@@jzen1455 He probably exaggerated his voice a bit in the original recording for comedic effect
When Grandpa makes music with the grandkids, LOL I enjoyed this
This is LIVE!!!❤

this is so raw. its amazing. Not what I would expect from this guy.
Everyone keeps saying wow they played all the instruments live! Shows what the musical landscape is like when real instruments become something novel.
64 years old?are you kidding me?he is so gorgeous 🥰
1:10-1:15 this reminds me of the kids that would go into the sears at the mall to the electronics department and start playing the keyboards on the shelf
Sad,but true, man!
I can't unsee the literal version of this video from RUclips
Love this! I challenge any band to play in a small studio like this and come out as good. Great job!
Playing the correct notes is always a good start.
LOL this is like your dad doing karaoke with the neighbourhood kids for community service instead of jail time.
Coughing in the beginning is the best. Love the song!👍😘🇸🇪
His voice is brillant! Didn't age!
i agree, great voice, needs a real live band!!!!!! outstanding song, passed the test of time!!
Ivan is the master
An everlasting song that will never die.
The bands timing skills are incredible
Nice to see them still going. Sounds good even after all these years
he's a good dancer, saw him live
Just fantastic
This is so horribly amazing.
THE..."70"s..."80"s......"90"s....THE VERY BEST ERA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So good
A stud is a stud is a stud
Just an amazing voice
Yeah, they still got it!
Brilliant song
You know your career is finally finished when you gig on a morning news broadcast.
But you get an audience of millions ....?
Over time it became a non goofy song....this is some serious rock n roll here!!
Still grooving 2023 safety dance
Ivan could’ve just done this alone to a backtrack and it would’ve been 1000x better. The guy still kills it
He is legend!
I dunno, at least the keys player in the middlke is ATTEMPTING to play the main keyboard riff. They don't do that nowadays.
nice to see you guys (ivan, heidi,Tracy and all the band)....come back to Peru!!!....hugs!!!
If I don't see a dwarf this very goddam minute!
How kool was that !!
Such a damn good classic
now that's hard work, entertaining a bunch of people who don't even seem to know who you are!
Ivan is AWESOME, but the lack of real synths is killing me. :(
Awesome. Stick that horrible word up your hoop
agreed as hell
Hä ?
What a great song, yes I’m high, but so are you, and we are doing the Safety Dance, and laughing our butts off.
Dude that was so good sounded perfect! That made my day, they still got it that was amazing
just so cool still
i am impressed that they really do it live ! That is awesome !
Duse music make you feel really good.
Safety Dance, the best song of the 80´s!!!!
Nah... Don't you want me baby is the best one.
@@guayabito6946fascination is much better than don’t you want me and they still don’t come close to Safety Dance
Good song
As amazingly mad and wonderful as the 80s version. Completely bonkers. I love it ❤
To my friend Ivan u look good fr the one and only NANCY
I ADORE how minimalist this is.
Guys, you're being harsh. This is a phenomenal classic

His voice is superb, no different from it was in 1980’s
Mann , Same voice from the 80's ..Believe me folks , I Was there .. 👍
Holy crap. At least it's performed live. Not many do this these days.
Not really. Who is doing the percussion and the bass?
@@watsonjimclip2778 So a band needs a bass player to be considered as live? Depeche Mode fans would hate you.
@@SloppyliciousI like the fact that only three instruments are being used throughout the song.

thank you for posting

Imperfections make a live song. This was great!
I agree. Proves it's live also. Though that keyboard player only had to play octaves, and she still cocked it up!😂😂
Men Without Hats. Love them!
Very cool! 😀

They sounded really good actually

I thought it was great! He covered his own song and is just as cool as he was back in the day. 💕. Love
Can’t stop laughing. Excelent comment.😂😂😂😂
I liked the keyboard, seemed like someone was actually playing an instrument
Why pay for good musicians when u can save money ..LOVE THIS SONG
Safety dance yeah
Such a classic banger.
Sounds awesome !!
He still has a groove going.

One of the best songs ever. Im a 90s baby but I love 80s music so much. 80s and 90s for music was awesome.

Lol
Hilarious..
awesum. u cant beat the 80s classics ❤️
OMG! All I can say.... I rather keep the old 80's memories.
So COOL!!
He sings wel but the keyboard ruined this version.
And the guitar - square peg springs to mind
ABSOLUTE CLASS!
Guitarist brought his A game - - good stuff!
ivan is fine. but the rest of the band...
true, but ivan still got it.
Yeah. I feel sorry for him. He deserves a better band.
yes he does
Agreed, he was great, but fuck...that keyboard player...can't hold a beat to save her life.
Should have just used playback music lol
BACK IN THE '80ES. GREAT GREAT
this was just awful keyboard work
It's not like the tune required much in the way of musical talent, is it?
and yet the one on the right still stuffed it up
C's an octave apart... how hard is that? She makes it seem like it's rocket science.
Are they actually playing or is the keyboard just a bad recording or the acoustics in the studio? I recently saw them in concert and they were excellent
There in the band because they are blowing him
They’re awful how can they mess this up?
