Hi! You misunderstood part of the Heavenly Pot Buster changes! It's not increased damage, it's increased MINIMUM damage, you ever been hit by HPB and it scales so hard it does like 5 damage? Minimum is 100 before defense modifiers, Pot Discord labbing says it's eeking out Gigantor finishers in some situations!! It's frankly a way bigger change than increasing the damage would have been.

I’d argue that the DP changes are actually a net positive for Sol, as hVV no longer having dp properties means that it has even more combo applications. For example, counter hit HVV can combo into nearly anything meterlessly, since now it can benefit from counter hit (or roman cancel) slowdown. Of course, the old bnbs don’t work anymore, but new, higher power routes are being discovered already.
I mean, his is 5k was nerfed from 0 to on block to -2. His 2S got more recovery, he takes more damage with higher blood, 2h got more recovery. He got nerfs, just not killed.

The dp rc changes are fantastic and it’s one of the things I really wanted. The other thing I really want is increased scaling on risc. it’s just not healthy imo to crank up risc in a block string and just do like 80% off an interaction. If dmg is overall lowered i think strive would be in such a fantastic spot
No DP rc is uncharted territory, but I think it's right for Strive. The damage is high enough where dp rc became an amazing option to stay safe. I wouldn't mind still being able to hit on hit, though.

No Hiragi RC is a big hit for my girl. I'm feeling it online too, it's a bit harder to get out of oki with Hiragi. Regardless, it's probably for the good of the game, and a lot of characters got significantly better with this patch. I hope Johnny, Elphelt, Testament, Bedman, and Potemkin players enjoy their buffs.

You actually made a mistake when covering baiken. Not only did she lose the ability to RC parry on whiff, but also lost the ability RC parry even if she lands it. She can no longer red roman cancel parry if she lands it making parry practically useless as an option. Accompanied by her opportunities of oki being halfed by WA changes, she has been severely nerfed more than people realize.
Something to note for baiken is that she still has access to parry kara super prc as a more difficult form of parry prc which functions iirc effectively the same as old parry prc but with throw invuln from the kara super as well. I believe this OS already existed pre-patch but now its the only safe 50 meter wakeup option she has.

The johnny stuff a buff or a nerf? I distinctly remember reverse corner wall break combos where I was in the corner but was able to swap sides mid combo and get a wall break
I play Sol and honestly, the DP nerf at first, I thought was gutting. It definitely impacts his dumb (but funny) run up DP -> RC -> Imagination combos/follow ups and whatnot. As well as Ky and Leo of course. However, I personally never wasted (that often) half of my bar to do a funny DP cancel unless I was confident or trying to mentally damage my opponent. If anything, it being strike and throw invincible is wild imo. It makes it a heavier 50/50 for both opponents on whether or not the knocked down opponent will DP. DP's are incredibly committal now and reads with DP's will be crucial. Do I think Sol will drop in many people's tier list because of this change? Possibly but everyone can't agree on the same placements. Do I? Again, perhaps. Even still, Sol is a strong character just not as busted as he once was. Thankfully we still have BRC -> DP :)

On the topic of the H DP changes Sol is hilariously the least impacted by them out of the characters and may have actually benefitted from those changes. He can use backdash BRC with HVV to circumvent the DP RC removal to a certain extent and he now has easier confirms into more HVV's than he did before at the cost of his most optimal routing being somewhat harder to execute. Because of this and the scaling change, sol might actually be able do frametrap stuff with HVV as a starter now and it will actually deal extremely good damage
God I wish they'd just make wild assault not steal burst. It's not working, it never worked, it defeats the whole point of burst, and they refuse to fix it. I'm totally fine with burst being a resource, and when coming into this game for the first time I especially loved the choice between blue and gold burst where you sacrificed potential safety for the sake of better offense. I do not think a player should be able to forcefully steal your ability to burst though, I think that de-emphasizes burst-baiting which was a cool mechanic. It also means that newer players have less of a safety net against being stuck in a combo the whole game.
the Axl tornado change only applies to projectiles with high enough clash level to take hits from it - most regular fireballs are level 1 and it is level 2 so it doesn't lose any hits from them
From a creative standpoint, the DP nerf makes no sense. Why would they actively gut their game's identity? Removing options that make the game stand out from other fighters is such a shot in the foot. Nobody enjoys losing their options in combat, it's always detrimental to the health and variety of the game longterm.
axl feels pretty good now. sickle storm is really good as a "burst lockout" option to end round because it was awful at breaking the wall before. comboing c.s/f.s into 5h basically means you can always WA combo into a wallbreak which means his reward is pretty consistent. he also gained a handful of scary new combos by combing 5h into rensen mixups or into winter cherry one vision combos. plus the game's mechanics are adjusted in his favor. it felt really bad to constantly get hit by hard knockdown or having people just spam their high-reward options at axl because the meter economy made comebacks very possible
Honestly a great update. DP is no longer an annoying move that you throw out when you have 50 meter. Not having a DP was such a huge drawback, but now atleast I know I don't have to guess for my life just because I decided to knock Sol down

Fun protogen fact: For whistling winds buff it was more for multi hit fireballs (KY, leo) as several hits would kill the tornado. Silly protogen out!

God I wish they'd just make wild assault not steal burst. It's not working, it never worked, it defeats the whole point of burst, and they refuse to fix it.
I'm totally fine with burst being a resource, and when coming into this game for the first time I especially loved the choice between blue and gold burst where you sacrificed potential safety for the sake of better offense. I do not think a player should be able to forcefully steal your ability to burst though, I think that de-emphasizes burst-baiting which was a cool mechanic. It also means that newer players have less of a safety net against being stuck in a combo the whole game.

the Axl tornado change only applies to projectiles with high enough clash level to take hits from it - most regular fireballs are level 1 and it is level 2 so it doesn't lose any hits from them
From a creative standpoint, the DP nerf makes no sense. Why would they actively gut their game's identity? Removing options that make the game stand out from other fighters is such a shot in the foot. Nobody enjoys losing their options in combat, it's always detrimental to the health and variety of the game longterm.

axl feels pretty good now. sickle storm is really good as a "burst lockout" option to end round because it was awful at breaking the wall before. comboing c.s/f.s into 5h basically means you can always WA combo into a wallbreak which means his reward is pretty consistent. he also gained a handful of scary new combos by combing 5h into rensen mixups or into winter cherry one vision combos.
plus the game's mechanics are adjusted in his favor. it felt really bad to constantly get hit by hard knockdown or having people just spam their high-reward options at axl because the meter economy made comebacks very possible
Honestly a great update. DP is no longer an annoying move that you throw out when you have 50 meter. Not having a DP was such a huge drawback, but now atleast I know I don't have to guess for my life just because I decided to knock Sol down

how big do you think the dp changes are for characters that were affected? it seems like most of them didn't get any changes that weren't universal. do you think characters like sin are noticeably weaker now, or still relatively (key word) on par with their strength from last season?

Nice vid, kinda hard to follow along with visually between both what's new and old and a buff vs nerf at the same time due to using green and red for both the border and the arrows. Maybe change the colors of the characters to differentiate between new and old while keeping the arrows colored?
