Nope. I still like Xrd more. Don't get me wrong, Strive us a beautiful game, but Xrd has that charm that unites the 2D era seamlessly into the 3D era. Xrd is still my favorite

REV felt like everyone had a bad hair day and their clothes were a toss up of Clasic designs from MS to Accent Core and Whole Overhauls, while Strive Definitely went on to be its own thing, while still referencing some greatness (Except in cases like Baiken and Millia where they got a major overhaul already so they just tweaked them a little and voila, greatness retained and improved upon even). I enjoy both games honestly for what they tried to do with art styles, even though I prefer Strive Also Heavy Day is the goat of GG Intro songs- EDIT: Man you didn't have to go THIS HARD with editing! Especially I-no and Axl
2:09 Is it just me or is Leo's stance less guarded in Strive than in Xrd? Edit: Should've mentioned this to begin with, but -- the music editing is on point with this vid!
Only things I hate about Strive's animations are the intros and outros for some characters not being as dynamic as I'd want them to be. Otherwise, most of the designs are way better (minus Ky why isn't he a twink)
This may be just me but the switch between Xrd and Strive feels like when AoT went from WIT to MAPPA. not to say that either style is bad, one just has a very mid 2000's era style to their faces while the other has a lot more line work and shading
Although i liked most redesigns in strive the intro and outro animations have a lot more flair and personality and also flow to them in xrd If you look at some of the visually outstanding xrd characters like dizzy and Johnny their xrd intro and outro animations look better than they do in strive
I wonder what the art direction for the next installment will be. So far we've got shonen, weekly anime style. Now we have movie-esque style. I feel like the next art style should really push their graphics pipeline, because technically, they're still doing things very similarily as with xrd, just with enhanced visuals and different style. Maybe, something that allows for dynamic cell shading (e.g. the thickness of the brush by an artist can be controlled to exaggerate certain areas of a drawing, and in animation, can be very important.). This would be cool to see actually been emulated, and maybe even showing different brush styles, so the outlines of the characters can appear to be brush strokes in overdrives etc. They set the standard on anime graphics that have still yet to be replicated to the same degree. Now imagine them pushing it further. (I'd actually like to see them tackle a spider-verse fg, since the characters are in different art styles and the shaders used are very intresting due to the comic origins. Actually, maybe just have the next GG game have characters in different art styles. Ky based on a good fanatasy manga like berserk. Sol, if he appears again, just straight up be daisuke's old art style that is rooted in rock. May obviously a very cartoony one. Imagine Axl being based of british comics like the Beano comics.)
My Design Preferences: 1 Sol , Strive 2 Kai , xrd 3 Leo, xrd 4 May, xrd 5 Ino, Strive 6 Axl, xrd ( I hate both ngl lmao) 7 Melia, Strive (but both are great) 8 Sin, xrd 9 Jacko, they're really similar but I like Strive's red hair more. 10 Chip, xrd, Strive's is overdesigned (despite that usually being my guilty pleasure). 11 Baiken, Same with Jacko, I think the colours and contrast are better in Strive. 12 Ram Val, Strive 110%. might be my favourite redesign. 13 Faust's versions are really different but I like the darker feel of Strive's. 14 Zato, xrd. 15 Green strong guy (idk forgot his name), xrd. 16 Bedman, Strive. Xrd - 8 Strive - 8 perfectly even. cool!
Allow me to make some corrections, if you will: Kai is actually Ky. Ino is I-No. Melia is Millia Chip is actually Chipp. The "Green strong guy" is Potemkin. Jacko is Jack-O. Ram Val is actually Ramlethal. Just wanted to give some corrections. :]
Hard disagree with Baiken. For one, taking the indent line (as well as the light reflection) from her chests is less realistic and they also went away from her original hair color and general palette. The rest of the Strive characters have a more muted color while her clothes go in the opposite direction. Why they muted her skin but saturated her hair is beyond me
Strive is an evident upgrade in definition and animation, but the better game (and still hell of a looker) is Xrd Rev 2, for me... At least until they bring back to Strive: Instant Kills, put real cutscenes (or ending images) to Arcade Mode, and also bring back my favorites: Dizzy and Jam. There were other "shortcuts" taken in Strive, that were full blown things in Xrd Rev 2, but they are not very worth mentioning.
I felt that way too but strive has grown on me too the point i love them both the same and am happy they did something fresh rather than expanding further on what started as SIGN. Dizz and Jam have a real good chance, fan favs. as far as instant kills theyre cool animations but in actual gameplay i dont miss them. hardly even notice because in actual pvp gameplay they are basically never used at high level. i have been seen them worked into the end of combos people did on me a small number of times but other than that, its usually a clumsy last ditch effort that hardly ever works on a human because a raw IK come out slow and televised.
The redesigns on Strive are genuinely beautiful and I don't think there is a single character other than Faust that I liked more before, but for Christ's sake give them their flair and finesse back😭
Absolutely. Strive looks great, and Axl really needed those pants, but it's missing so much. Looking at these games side by side it feels like Strive was made with the highest production quality that could be mustered by someone who doesn't really get what was good about Xrd.
I find it fascinating how much more mature everyone looks in Strive even tho some of them barely changed models (like Jack-O or Baiken). Everyone is so much thicker, more muscular, the colors are more toned and the outfits seem less over-the-top combat ready and more like smth they casually wear. It feels like ten years passed in the story, but in reality it's like 2 weeks??
Xrd overall seek way more interesting for me. I simply love the graphics, the intro, and the general design. Strive is way too cell shading for my taste.
the new models are amazing, sadly those are so different games, i preffer to play way more xrd, while in strive i just out of curiosity, check the models, cinematics, specials' animations, etc
I really love looking at this, both Strive and Xrd's designs and animation look equally great just in different ways. There are only a handful of things I can say are just better or worse in one or the other (like, the fact that I-No's hat covers her eyes in Xrd just looks ridiculous), everything else is equal, yet different.
My XRD vs Strike Design Takes Sol: XRD > Strive Ky: XRD > Strive Leo: Strive > XRD May: XRD > Strive I-No: Strive > XRD Axl: Strive > XRD Millia: XRD > Strive Sin: Strive > XRD Jack-O: XRD > Strive Chipp: Strive > XRD Baiken: XRD> Strive Ramlethal: XRD > Strive Faust: Strive > XRD Zato-1: Strive > XRD Potemkin: XRD > Strive Bedman: Strive > XRD So Overall: XRD 8 and....Strive 8 Damn, gotta wait til the next Guilty Gear or more DLC's to break the tie XRD did have a bit of an unfair advantage in that every mirrored design like Potemkin and Baiken were just gonna outright look better thanks to the more vibrant shading and significantly better textures.
Some things of older designs look cooler: Dual shield guy holding them as if they reverse swords Electro sword guy, sword not looking like saint cross Hairgirl with more bright theme of colours Black girl with two big swords, without hat looks more fun
Is it just me or are macro-animations of characters here better in XRD? Obviously Strive’s little animations are better, they’re arguably the best for any “choose your character” game EVER. But the entrances and exits for the most part are pretty boring in comparison. Idle animations are also much more body movements in XRD, strive is mostly chill letting the micro-animations shine
Huge and Great improvement (despite the GG2 got its own greatness). And I love that they don't change Jack O too much since she's almost perfect, isn't she?

Sol could be one more anime-sword-fighter we see in most fighting games, yet, in Strive he wields one of the most unique swords I've seen, it's a perfect mix of the concrete slab Order Sol used to wear, and Fireseal. It has details everywhere, burning magma-like lightning effects inside. Sames goes for Ram's great-swords, they are perfect versions of the previous ones, overflowing with details, yet so harmonious.
Relax it aint that deep
Strive's redesigns are the blandest desaturated shit, what are you on
I agree
@@silpheedpilot7if u know anything about character designing, it is DEEP. But I bet I've never drawn a single thing in ur life so stfu
@@evilevilcritter Strive quite literally turned up the saturation, what are you on about?
The development of science and technology visible to the naked eye
Honestly hope they add the xrd models as an alternate costume or something, i really like some of the old designs
Notably may
It will actually require them reanimating the 3d model if they do that
Bro I cant even focus on the video when the music is slapping this hard in the background! Great job with the timestop effect and the mono audio effect on baiken's intro.
Strive has a better graphic engine, but I really like the artstyle in Xrd’s way more.
The hair animation is like 2 generations ahead of XRD. The way Millia lets her hair down during her victory animation... dead ass makes me flustered.
@@nathandam6415Unreal Engine 3, which XRD runs on, is severely hampered by its restrictive bone limit for games like XRD, where as UE4 supports more bones
facts
@@nathandam6415 animation in general is way better on strive. problem is, Xrd was leagues more stylized and cool, i really miss Xrd character intros in comparison
If this was an anime xrd is the series and stive is the movie.
Funny cuz strive basically has a movie built in
@@cheese0827 I like how the Album comes with a full on movie and a free game.
Boy, do I have news for you. Strive has a SEQUEL ANIME
Am i the only one who prefers Xrd REV 2s art style and a good chunk of its character designs?
I much prefer Strive in most cases, but Zato looks much better in Xrd I think. Leo and Millia also have kind of rough designs in Strive. Otherwise I think everyone got glowups even if I miss Ram's shoulder guards.
@@Renoistic You're tripping everyone looks better in Strive (especially Sin, A.B.A and Sol)
I don't even play this game and I can tell you all the designs on the left look better.
@@GrubKiller436 My honest reaction 😐
Nope. I still like Xrd more. Don't get me wrong, Strive us a beautiful game, but Xrd has that charm that unites the 2D era seamlessly into the 3D era. Xrd is still my favorite
I love how strive's more down-to-earth when it comes to characters designs.
Same here
2:56 I Can't Lie This Is Too Adorable Y'all
Yeah she is kinda cute until her dolphins give you PTSD for the rest of your life.
strive faust makes me feel like he is from a horror movie 💀
Chip, Zato, and potemkin got massive glowups
Also Millia
Just more than that, idle poses got changed since XRD is just AC+R animation wise. Didn't even notice how they gave the posing style a lot more clarity and consistency until this video lol
I enjoy both games honestly for what they tried to do with art styles, even though I prefer Strive
Also Heavy Day is the goat of GG Intro songs-
EDIT: Man you didn't have to go THIS HARD with editing! Especially I-no and Axl
2:09 Is it just me or is Leo's stance less guarded in Strive than in Xrd?
Edit: Should've mentioned this to begin with, but -- the music editing is on point with this vid!
yup its because he wants to die because of his survivor guilt
Only things I hate about Strive's animations are the intros and outros for some characters not being as dynamic as I'd want them to be. Otherwise, most of the designs are way better (minus Ky why isn't he a twink)
twinkdeath
I love the new Ky
@@zennistesame
also i thought he was still a twink 😭☠️
Ky still looks like a twink lil bro
Ky's Gear Cells buffed him up like they did to Sol
This may be just me but the switch between Xrd and Strive feels like when AoT went from WIT to MAPPA. not to say that either style is bad, one just has a very mid 2000's era style to their faces while the other has a lot more line work and shading
sometimes i look at axls clothes in xrd and weep, what the hell is that fit man💔💔
It’s so hard because the old pixels have their charm, xrd has classic outfits slightly updated and strives shows evolution
ive never seen i-no's strive intro before, that goes hard as HELL
Although i liked most redesigns in strive the intro and outro animations have a lot more flair and personality and also flow to them in xrd
If you look at some of the visually outstanding xrd characters like dizzy and Johnny their xrd intro and outro animations look better than they do in strive
Also in xrd there were a lot of unique intro And outros
Sometimes having unique ones for every character
Slayer's the only exception because Arc System Works managed to make him even more dandy than his Xrd version
It's obvious they prioritized brevity in Strive.
@@Renoistic Which isn't a bad thing because some of the visual choices flow better than their Xrd counterparts
Every single one is such a solid improvement. Also, loved the editing work on the time stops from IN-O and Axl Low. Good stuff.

Faust and Bedman? in Strive are the definitions of "oh god what have they done to you"
I wonder what the art direction for the next installment will be.
My Design Preferences:
1 Sol , Strive
2 Kai , xrd
3 Leo, xrd
4 May, xrd
5 Ino, Strive
6 Axl, xrd ( I hate both ngl lmao)
7 Melia, Strive (but both are great)
8 Sin, xrd
9 Jacko, they're really similar but I like Strive's red hair more.
Xrd - 8
Strive - 8
perfectly even. cool!
Allow me to make some corrections, if you will:
Kai is actually Ky.
Ino is I-No.
Melia is Millia
Chip is actually Chipp.
Why they muted her skin but saturated her hair is beyond me
I will reiterate this from the last video, I love how sol’s weapon just gets bigger with every game
Am I the only one who thinks that these graphics would be great for soul eater and fire force if they were made into a game?
Bro fr a character like stein already looks like he from guilty gear
@@jaydo4545 I know that however I still think it would be cool if they did
@@JosephOchoa-p4d yea I'm agreeing with you, that would be perfect
Cool dude sorry bout earlier it's kinda hard to type stuff when there isn't a tone option.
Like that's cool dude in a friendly voice
Strive is an evident upgrade in definition and animation, but the better game (and still hell of a looker) is Xrd Rev 2, for me...
At least until they bring back to Strive: Instant Kills, put real cutscenes (or ending images) to Arcade Mode, and also bring back my favorites: Dizzy and Jam. There were other "shortcuts" taken in Strive, that were full blown things in Xrd Rev 2, but they are not very worth mentioning.
I am really hoping them to be the next 2 dlc characters since Johnny has been revealed
It’s fascinating to think how strive might’ve turned out had Covid not happened
Absolutely agree.
Never understood why they didnt put jam in strive. I saw her as GG's Mai Shiranui, Chun li, Morrigan etc
The redesigns on Strive are genuinely beautiful and I don't think there is a single character other than Faust that I liked more before, but for Christ's sake give them their flair and finesse back😭
Strive may have some nice details, but OG animation movement is top notch. Also brighter colors looks nice
it's kind of nice seeing most of the cast maturing as time went on
Xrd had waaayyyyy more style and personality IMO. Sol's intro is still highly badass to this day.
One looks like an anime series, the other like anime movie
Xrd overall seek way more interesting for me. I simply love the graphics, the intro, and the general design. Strive is way too cell shading for my taste.
Wawww this is pure art , strive upgrade is awesome im very impressed , i have to rebuy it with all dlc
Just have to point out,
3:44 Ino teleport with bgm fading out and in sends chills to my spine.
Nice touch 🔥 @Yoyo-dodo
I like many of the outfits of strive better, but I think the idle/neutral poses in xrd look better for the most part.
Agreed!
wow jack o just inverted hair colors 🔥
Jam kuradoberi and Dizzy , i miss you
The colors look much more vibrant on the previous game generally, I prefer the style there but like some of the designs more in the other one
All the girls were made EVEN thiccer in the new one. Milla starting to have the chun li thunder thighs.
10年前にテレビアニメでやってた作品をリメイクしてアニメ映画にしたみたいな感じだ
AXEL HAD JORTS 💀
Better shading and outlines on boobas in xrd, that's all we need to know.
the new models are amazing, sadly those are so different games, i preffer to play way more xrd, while in strive i just out of curiosity, check the models, cinematics, specials' animations, etc
The ones on the left look better. They really outdid themselves on that one.
I really love looking at this, both Strive and Xrd's designs and animation look equally great just in different ways. There are only a handful of things I can say are just better or worse in one or the other (like, the fact that I-No's hat covers her eyes in Xrd just looks ridiculous), everything else is equal, yet different.
I-no's hat is a faithful reproduction of pixel art from the 2D era, so why not praise it?
@@deen7085 It looked weird in 2D too
This video makes me want to just play Xrd
Agree. But I bought it for "Story Mode" sake. 😂😂😂
My XRD vs Strike Design Takes
Sol: XRD > Strive
Ky: XRD > Strive
Leo: Strive > XRD
May: XRD > Strive
I-No: Strive > XRD
Axl: Strive > XRD
Millia: XRD > Strive
Sin: Strive > XRD
Jack-O: XRD > Strive
Chipp: Strive > XRD
Baiken: XRD> Strive
Ramlethal: XRD > Strive
Faust: Strive > XRD
Zato-1: Strive > XRD
Potemkin: XRD > Strive
Bedman: Strive > XRD
So Overall: XRD 8 and....Strive 8
Damn, gotta wait til the next Guilty Gear or more DLC's to break the tie
XRD did have a bit of an unfair advantage in that every mirrored design like Potemkin and Baiken were just gonna outright look better thanks to the more vibrant shading and significantly better textures.
Height
saturation and contrast
Smooth models
Upgraded physics
new, smoother animations
Basically, that's all?
They're focusing on quality.. hope performance comes next
The outfits in strive begin to resemble actual clothing people would wear
Some things of older designs look cooler:
Dual shield guy holding them as if they reverse swords
Electro sword guy, sword not looking like saint cross
Hairgirl with more bright theme of colours
Black girl with two big swords, without hat looks more fun
the minutiae depends but the overall artstyle and camera movement of xrd is def more appealing
All the new models look better except May. Old May looks _significantly_ better than the new one.
Might regret asking but why?
@@neinja66469I think it’s because in xrd her outfit stands out more! And she looks a tiny bit more like a pirate But that’s just me
wish you wouldve shown off their special moves and overdrives as well
Is it just me or are macro-animations of characters here better in XRD? Obviously Strive’s little animations are better, they’re arguably the best for any “choose your character” game EVER. But the entrances and exits for the most part are pretty boring in comparison. Idle animations are also much more body movements in XRD, strive is mostly chill letting the micro-animations shine
Huge and Great improvement (despite the GG2 got its own greatness). And I love that they don't change Jack O too much since she's almost perfect, isn't she?
I love the difference between XRD faust's victory and Strive faust victory.
One goes away, and one gets closer.
I love the way more casual* designs of Strive.
*relaxed. There's just something that's ram-roddish of the designs of REV2.
god I-no's strive intro is fuckin sexy too bad it lasts a million fucking years
Anime budget vs Anime Movie budget be like:
That a huge 180 deg change for faust....from butt poking to shin breaker dang
Having never played this, those massive bazonkers explain why it's so popular
Imagine not knowing the context behind what’s happening with Bedman 😅
I seem to like most of all the ggx compared to stride they seem to be more lively in x like i like all the intro and outro but compare them to stride is just look water down on stride stuff like the witch just zoom in on guitar is so cool but they both look good at the same time i think it just x give off more personality compare to stride
It's Strive not Stride
What’s the song at 9:00??? I love the really fast organ or whatever it is
"Pillars of the Underworld." Ky's theme from the Korean Version of GGXX#R
Faust went from weird silly doctor to zombie.
both games look amazing in my opinion 🤷🏾♂
