Another leak in the coolant for our 2011 Vauxhall Corsa and a general chat on car repairing for fun

  • This video I'm talking about the coolant system on our Vauxhall Corsa as I've found a leak beside the thermostat (Luckily it wasn't the coolant pump I replaced). It's also a chance to chat about why I do car repairs, why I video it for RUclips and what are your opinions on the videos I do.
In this video I also show you the engine with spanner warning light on the Vauxhall corsa and what it means when it's on, flashing or off depending on what codes are stored. This is different to the engine management light.

Don't stop doing the tutorial videos. Everyone makes mistakes thats how we learn. Its great watching you repair stuff. Let's face it even experienced mechanics make mistakes. The difference is they don't tell the customer

Thank you so much, absolutely, I should be clearer in I'm no expert just an amateur and this is how I do things! You're right about mechanics/garages, they'd never let on they'd never seen a type of car and follow guides.

Dont let negative people stop you from doing what you enjoy doing... if you do stop then they win, you don't have to explain why you do what you do on youtube because of unkind people on here... we all get things wrong at times, we are human and we all make mistakes but i personally think that your channel is great and you have helped me solve a few issues on my step daughter's corsa so please carry on doing what you do. Keep on the great content.

Do it the way you are doing if you run into a problem we all learn with you and frankly it encourages others to try and fix their cars plus as a Corsa D owner I'm well aware the car is a running problem so it's always good to check on RUclips if someone else has experienced a similar issue.

If you don't have a go you'll never know. If you have a few tools do a little research before you start to see if it's within your capability. I think your videos are really good and encourage ppl to realise you don't have to pay expensive garage labour charges. Most things are fixable at home. Just have a plan before you start and be methodical.

Absolutely my sentiment, thank you so much for watching and commenting. I give it a go and have learnt over the years. If I can inspire people to at least look and learn that's what I enjoy and I do enjoy cars and making videos. Thanks for the support :-)

hi , yes the coolant thermostat housing is at the front o/s of the engine bay and the one at the n/s of the block is called the coolant flange which contains the temperature sensor . its the one with the thinner hose which returns the coolant back to the header tank, both of these are prone to leaking or cracking as they are made of hard plastic which gets brittle over time or they can leak when the rubber seal which butts up to the engine starts to fail. also the thinner return hose can leak from the push fit connector when the o ring perishes. be careful if you try to remove either of the thermostat or coolant flange as the bolts can snap off.

If it was me I would stick with this is just my way of doing it, I think an how to leaves it open to some maybe saying that's not the right way, there again nobody has to watch if there not happy with them, I've done a rocker cover and purge valve on a Mokka, and an outlet coolant flange on a Corsa from watching these sorts of videos, the light hearted chit chat is fine by me as you're doing the work, keep them coming. 👍

Thanks for the kind comments and yes you're right, perhaps wording is the key! Give people a bit of info and state this is my method/way of doing it. Good to hear you're tinkering away too and doing your own repairs, it's a good way of learning more and we all love a good problem to solve!

Going to have to get some of that sealant for same problem on my sons Corsa 1.2, it's only done about 600 miles since a garage swapped out the cylinder gasket and piston rings, pretty sure they changed this thermostat too, He spent a small fortune on this car already so going to try sealing this myself. Thankfully not damaged the head this time when it overheated due to lack of coolant. Thanks for doing your video your way.

Hi out of curiosity how much did it cost for a head gasket fix on your corsa 1.2, my son had just got a corsa 1.2 sxi 2008 & ive noticed latte in the expansion tank. So i may need to get his car booked in

  • @brucewayne7838

to be honest if you are going to renew the coolant flange or thermostat housing they both have a rubber seal and when done up to the correct torque this seals the rubber o ring in place and should be good for a few years . i would advise against using gasket sealant on those areas as they can take a long time to cure ,

hi also if it helps there are built in diagnostics tools on the corsa d two of which are a volt meter and temperature meter, to access these turn on the ignition until the dash lights come on then hold the settings button in for around five seconds which is the one to the right hand side of the radio knob until you hear a beep . then go up to the display at the top of the dash for the radio and press the lower button below the clock button and you can scroll through diagnostics including temp and voltage . no need to plug in an OBII reader. when on the volt meter it will also show if your alternator is working fine when you start it, and you can also view and see the temperature rising when on that option. hope this helps.

Hi, thanks so much for commenting on the video, good info.
Interestingly this model doesn't appear to have the diagnostics where you can do the dash ignition test to get the readouts, I've seen many forum posts saying some do and some don't, it seems very random!

@@junkendriven no problem, yes i can see after watching again that you have a 2010 corsa d and that the factory radio has been replaced with an after market media system. so the settings button would have been disconnected. keep up the good work on your channel as it helps so many people who might not have the confidence to look at and repair some problems they get on their cars. have a nice day from the dark knight,

Just an observation , did u check the seal when you took the thermostat off? It might have got pinched when doing it up before,
The thing i have difficulty in comprehending is there are two sides to the gasket & two surfaces that sandwich the gasket so if you put dirko sealant on the surface you still have two surfaces that can potentially leak still !
This has always been a bug bare for me lol.

its fine to work it out as you go. but you should cut out your mistakes. When you were attaching the fluid extractor to the drain valuve. I was wondering why on earth you did that and wrote a repoly. then you realised and just used a bucket. But I'm annoyed for wasting my time typing everything. So I will delete the comment and have a go at you for it.
