My local MOT place had an old 406 Estate as a courtesy car. It was great. But people would just keep on to it to do runs to the tip or pick up stuff from B&Q. It was really popular with people in all sorts of trades. But the garage owner got a bit tired of people just cluttering up his space with their vehicles and not bringing the courtesy car back. So he swapped it for a pink KA with purple flowers on.
@@michaeljohnson1006 Sneaking suspicion it was something to do with VW's beetle, was the primary colour yellow? I do remember something, the reason I say VW is the Mk 2 beetle (when it was launched) had a flower vase on the dash. Hope this helps 🤔
Damn, the interior was an absolute war crime. Glad there's a decent outcome at the end there, you make a bit of profit and it goes to someone who will also make a profit. Keep up the vids, really making me tempted in starting up buying and selling cars as I've been working at a garage for over 5 years now and more than happy to buy and sell old knackers and turn them into decent motors that are reliable.
Have had three Corsa D's - all 1.4 petrol, looked after them, FSH, timing chains done at 60 and 120k ,washed and cleaned and driven sensibly - all of them exceeded 130k miles with no major issues at all. Nothing wrong with them at all and extremely reliable if looked after
@@paulspurrell8669 Yes. It looks like that whole section of the dashboard was out, maybe at the same time they were fiddling with the gear shift surround. The door rubber at the driver's A-post looked a bit skew whiff also.
Mat. I laughed out loud with your ranting about the quality sub optimal parcel shelf micro-repair !!!!! Lol. I’ve had 8k plus cars in 18 years and haven’t had that. Even !!! And I’ve had some sheds like we all have !!!! Quality content. Sheds so much more watchable YT

But I’d be lying if I didn’t say I find your dismissive nature of the condition the car has been left in articulately superb! 👏👏👏 Top work again Matt 🙌
Great stuff Matt. Thoroughly entertaining and informative. Love the parcel shelf and paint repair! Before work I’ll watch one of your videos as they’re actually addictive.
I love you and love the content you present. Your disposition of common sense in your approach for situations that you must sort out is commendable and says a lot about your business ethics and integrity. It makes me wish someone like you with a car lot was here in SF Bay Area, as someone who also buys cars, sells them as the novelty where’s off, it would give great peace of mind knowing the true effort the dealership business owner, someone like yourself makes to ensure the cars he offers are indeed pre conditioned properly and in good faith. The people fortunate enough to be in the area of Great Britain in which you serve , should be thankful you have such high standard of quality of his own person feet of cars in his home garage, are not at all unlike the fleet of cars he offers for sale in the dealership garage he owns and operates.
I do love these "I've bought a cheap...for ....." videos. Amazing what is out there and how people look after their cars. I agree you should at least cleanest before selling as that image determines what someone will get for it
Definitely done the right thing. Even the dash speedo cluster looks like it's been off and not been fitted back properly. Looks like it's been messed with good and proper.
Another top top video. This is a winning formula at my end. The same set up but as each car is different, no two videos are the same. It's become must-watch for me. RUclips gold!
Definitely a fleet car, maybe even ex PCSO, there is a driver fob scanner behind the ignition, I’d assume the dash is falling to bits from when it was defleeted and all the kit was removed, would also explain why the door seal is a mess from police belts
Definitely a nice little earner for the repairman guy! It was decent of Matt to advertise the car valeters, as compensation for taking on such a mucky job.
Bought my 08 90hp CDTi in 2021 with 96k miles. Was a real step up in quality/spec from a 2002 Saxo Furio, which was a fun car! Only (potentially big) problem with these, is the ECU location, right below passenger side windscreen/under the bonnet. It's where rain run off goes and any leaves/dirt blocking the drain holes, has the ECU sitting in water!! Been so many failed ECU's on these, but mine was ok, no warning lights. I just remove leaves/dirt from the drain holes twice a year and all has been fine for 3 years. The turbo on these are not good (local garage said they are all the same from new), but it does cut in most of the time, though over-taking can be awkward! Otherwise it's been a very reliable and a decent drive.
Definitely saw this on episode 157 of Police Interceptors! Amazing what a difference a wash makes. Genuinely struggle with people who drive around in a car in that state and why you wouldn't run it through a car wash and vac it out before selling is literally beyond me. You certainly see humanity in all its glory in your game Matt.
This is the funniest episode yet! It surprises me what items people leave in their cars, knowing they are selling it. Also the shame from the lack of cleanliness.
Possibly previous owner had some kind of unexpected or unfortunate event (prison, ill health or death, etc.) and someone else selling the car just wanted rid of it.
My sister had one of these since new, and after being reliable for some years, all of the suddenly was hit with high repairs. Timing chain stretched, Oil pump replaced, and clogged EGR. Even having low millage it need to replace the turbo, besides an anormal oil consumption. Also terrible residual value, with huge depreciation. Next time she gonna go with Japanese. Once going Japanese, you never go back.
Note to previous owner : Use Tippex for future small touchups on a white car. Also handy for blotching out initially ill considered threats of violence to a former partner's solicitor.
Had one of these as a BT work van and I thought they were much tougher than my former Festa Van . Mine did about 115000 in 6 to 7 years and not many problems. It got really hammered loads of long drives and the mpg were very economical
Off topic, but you'll be pleased to hear that I bought a car today having done a Car Vertical check using your discount code! (thanks) A 2015 Hyundai ix35 2.0 CRDi Premium 4WD. Immaculate, loads of kit, quite a nice place to be for a 2015 Hyundai. I did this based on your suggestion that they are good cars ;-). The dealer even let me take the car home having not paid for all of it because their payment system was being a pain - I must have an honest face :-D
In November 2020 my wife picked up our new car, since I was out of the country. The price sticker was 620.000 Norwegian kroner. My wife, this sweet creature, forgot to bring her phone or laptop, so she could transfer the money. Well, the dealer knew me, and they let her drive away in the new car. She phoned me about the pickup, and with my most manly and authoritarian voice I told her to transfer the money. I know my wife, and know that she cold sit down, begin knitting, and forget all about straighting out the moneymatter.

The difference… we’ve been caring for ours. It’s close to 100k. Hasn’t been fault free but not too bad. She polishes up quite nicely. But has to park on the road 😂
I had a 2008 3 door SXi 6 speed from new and have to say it drove really well, very comfortable, quick enough for me and very economical. When it was 4 years old I bought a new car and passed it on to my daughter and she has only just traded it in, other than servicing it hadn’t cost us much at all. She also says she misses the grunt it had as well as the 6th gear. They do keep well if you look after them.

I've had a 57 Corsa d diesel for 3 years and it's been great it's the 90hp model 6 speed but it only does 50 mpg which I'm happy with but you wouldn't get much more out of it.
Such a breeze to work on. Had one on the exact same plate. Very reliable. Only concern is the fuel filter on the cdti is like 50 quid as it's a metal cased one that sits in the engine bay.
Just put your finger in the tread where the wear indicator is, you can feel how much rubber is remaining before the indicator gets to being flush, it gives you a good guide to how much useful tread is left.
To be honest I quite like these little Corsa diesels. In a previous job, we had two as pool cars for ferrying workers to and from depots. The ones we had were base models with the 1248cc FIAT diesel engine rated at 73bhp. I was impressed with how nippy it was. They were also zero road tax as well. We then ended up with a 1.6 diesel Zafira which was a heap of junk and I hated it.
I had the Corsa 1.7 CDTI SE, pretty quick, 62 mpg, sounded like a Massey Ferguson tractor but quite reliable; got rid of it at 55k (I don't like to keep cars beyond 50k really; especially petrol engines), saw it advertised on Auto Trad*r five years later having done 99k still looking mint!
It looks like that may have been used as a bus driver shuttle car. Stagecoach usually use Corsa's and that fuel logo looks awfully familiar 🤔 Also it has a Green road Dallas key switch near the ignition barrel which is a tracking system Stagecoach use to monitor their fleet etc
Yeah I second this, we had them up at the north east depots. They were all DX14 reg plates and yes the Dallas key reader and the standard fuel sticker are dead giveaways, as are the mix match tyres that are surprisingly good quality brands. It will have been maintained by the depot engineering lot and they do their own MOT's, this will be why "no advisories". Maintained quite well mechanically but driven for lots of short journeys by ham fisted bus drivers who have zero mechanical sympathy 🤣
Hi how's it going. Excellent video on the Corsa,I really enjoyed it. The Q and A video was in my opinion was your best video you have produced. I found it interesting from the point that you were talking about yourself. So, you work to hard, get bored after a while doing the same job, and you like a challenge. Also, you need a hobby to take your mind off work issues. Here goes with the suggestions! 1 fresh water fishing. Done properly, it's impossible to think of anything else but the process of catching fish. Number 2, singing. Yes singing. When you sing you produce endorphins in your brain, nature's antidepressants. A choir is a good choice. A very social activity. Rewarding and uplifting. That's it. Cheers from benidorm. Tony
I’ve had my first car nine months (A 2003 Honda CRV) and I’m always washing it on the outside, hoovering the interior, cleaning under the bonnet, door jams and even cleaning inside the fuel cover. I gave it a full set of new Yokohama blue earth all season tyres last month,it’s had a new CAT and one of two O2 sensors and the bits that needed sorting that were not picked up on it’s MOT just days before I drove it away. It’s part of the family now and I like to think I’m treating it as such. I’d be embarrassed dropping that car off to be part ex’d against another car I mean what would the dealer think of them 😂
I hope he's partial sighted because that interior has been apart many times especially the instrument binnacle with a gap that wide around it. Still a great video and a not so bad car if people cared for them properly, and I think it had a new alternator on it recently.
great content m8,im addicted and i just cant stop watching these fun used car videos they are full of humour, ive bought a few lemons over the years i bet we all have, haha
I'm really loving these videos. I watched like 12 in a few days. Please keep making them. Very good, informative, and being a real car guy enjoy them 👍🏻
Hi ! Always look forward to your videos, you are very honest about your opinions and with your good humor it is a pleasure to watch you, good luck with your company.
Watch out for the engine management lights they can mean £1500 for one replacement engine management unit, then another £1500 for a different module etc
😂 sorry I shouldn’t chuckle but I’ve suffered the pain of several corsa’s so your comments reverberated. My last one was the worst, the clutch literally fell out of the bottom of the car after 2 years.. no joke. They repaired it under warranty, but I’ve never been so pleased to hand a car back to the lease company after the term was up.
Ahhh the good old rubber MOT I bought a van once that had passed its MOT the day before Had more oil over the engine than the deepwater horizon incident Had every dashboard light know to man on The fusebox looked like it had been re wired by the chuckle brothers The speedo didn't work The windscreen was cracked And it smoked like Dot Cotton Apart from that it was fine
love these videos, got one of these a few yrs ago for my daughter. she thought it a good car but not a great experience for me! had a damp problem in the back seat well and it smelt like it!!
Bought my 2014 Corsa Diesel for for the equivalent of 5.5k around 6 months ago and I thought I had overpaid, but after seeing this one I feel much better with my choice
With the loose dashboard panels I would say it was completely stripped out at some point by the previous owner to replace the heater matrix or something else in that area of the car. They probably didn't want to pay for the labour that a garage would charge. Great videos as always 👌
Always reassuring when you see quality repairs on a car you purchased Matt! 🤣....friend of mine had a Corsa and used to ring me every couple of days with some fault or other...I used to cringe when the phone rang....You made the right decision to shift it on quickly....keep up the great vids! 👍
I actually bought this car around Feb this year off your mate and i still own it but it looks nothing like this, i paid around £1800 for it and i've had no trouble with it whatsoever, He had cleaned the bodywork up and fitted a new set of cheap wheel trims and cleaned inside, The radio speakers are still knackered and the crap cover is still on steering wheel, i actually bought it for someone else to use and it still had the same diesel in it, i picked it up from Stockport and drove it back and it drove like it's had an hard life. i'm the one who emailed you about a week ago about 2022 E Class for sale
The cheap trade in videos are always amusing and informative: keep them coming. Looking forward to you finding a good replacement for your courtesy car , good hunting!
Hi Matt great video my mrs was watching your video and has told me that them gloves are horse riding gloves, cannot understand why someone would treat there car like this but what a turn around by cleaners hope you are well best wishes ian
What a heap!... Like you i`m always amazed at the state some people trade their cars in, you did the right thing to get shut to a trader as even though it cleaned up quite well you just know its not been cared for and will likely be endless trouble, to sell it from your forecourt the clutch needs changing, a proper service doing, sort the paint, parcel shelf and refit most of the interior plastics properly!...Not worth the hassle..
GM extended the services from Fiat 12K to 20K so in effect its missing every other oil change, the cam chain fails often totalling the motor. I got 320k out of an 07 Panda multijet before rear-ended, clutch always feels weak and can slip even when new.
Hi really enjoy your video's now subscribed to you Chanel. I can't believe how some car's are left. I feel really sorry for you some times, I can't stand having a dirty car,, Look forward to your next video.
Enjoying the videos Matt . Do previous owners of these cars ever watch and comment on your critique and how you turn around their car into something decent?
"What an absolute bucket" had me laughing out loud. You had such low hopes for this car, and you still sounded so disappointed. Still, you've offed it and made a few quid, and we're all hugely entertained, so it's a win win, Matt. Keep 'em coming.
I see it has had a new alternator fitted. These are a very good car and can take a lot of abuse. I bought one 2 years ago with 300k km on it to teach my son to drive. It needed a new gearbox and general servicing but is running fine.
Hi Matt, good call to sell the Corsa. It's absolutely astonishing how a reasonable car can be abused in 8 years, with regular car servicing abandoned in the last 3 years. This car deserves another chance with a new careful owner and your video does it justice. A pity this car is not ULEZ compliant. Well done again.😀
What an absolute dog, it amazes me that some care so little about thier cars. My wife had one of these, boring, dull, under powered box on wheels. All was well until the ECU packed up. Clever design feature locating ECU at bottom of the windscreen in a plastic tray perfectly designed to clog up with gunge and rot the ECU from the inside out, thanks Vauxhall 👌
It's not about the car, it's about the owner(s). I had a Corsa from 2012, 115,000 miles, nothing came off or broke from the plastic inside. This Corsa was obviously used and abused by who knows how many drivers, because it was obviously a rental car.
I'm a bit addicted to these "I bought a cheap..." videos now

Done properly, it's impossible to think of anything else but the process of catching fish. Number 2, singing. Yes singing. When you sing you produce endorphins in your brain, nature's antidepressants. A choir is a good choice. A very social activity. Rewarding and uplifting. That's it. Cheers from benidorm. Tony
What a way to lift a miserable Monday evening 😁 Keep them coming 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Have you considered doing a video with the car wash? They’re clearly miracle workers.
How about with the mechanic?
Be nice to see behind the scenes
Those Corsa Ds always sell really fast especially the facelift 63/64 plates.
Great video as ususal Matt! :D
Yeah that dash has been pulled apart
great content m8,im addicted and i just cant stop watching these fun used car videos they are full of humour, ive bought a few lemons over the years i bet we all have, haha
Thank you so much!
spanner light code 62 remove vis menu on left indicator stalk
Great video - like with the other comments, love the I Bought a cheap...... Oh and the Spanner light on the Corsa indicated it needed a service ;)
I owed a 2010 diesel corsa. Was the worst thing I have ever had. Power steering would randomly stop working when turning corners.
Watch out for the engine management lights they can mean £1500 for one replacement engine management unit, then another £1500 for a different module etc
Just got to love the DIY repair job on the bumper and parcel shelf!
Defo a driving instructor car, you can tell by the tom tom in the glovebox
😂 sorry I shouldn’t chuckle but I’ve suffered the pain of several corsa’s so your comments reverberated. My last one was the worst, the clutch literally fell out of the bottom of the car after 2 years.. no joke. They repaired it under warranty, but I’ve never been so pleased to hand a car back to the lease company after the term was up.
I just watched an older video about how you said you never keep corsas on your lot unless if it's in really good condition then this video pops up 😂
The inhaler bit made me chuckle 😂 14:04
Ahhh the good old rubber MOT
I bought a van once that had passed its MOT the day before
Had more oil over the engine than the deepwater horizon incident
Had every dashboard light know to man on
The fusebox looked like it had been re wired by the chuckle brothers
The speedo didn't work
The windscreen was cracked
And it smoked like Dot Cotton
Apart from that it was fine
Another excellent vlog 👌 these reviews are absolutely brilliant 👏 more more please 😀 👏
Thank you! Will do!
Means it's in need of Service along with the INSP light. Once reset they both go out.
love these videos, got one of these a few yrs ago for my daughter. she thought it a good car but not a great experience for me! had a damp problem in the back seat well and it smelt like it!!
Aaaaaaand I'm sitting in Florida watching a video on an old diesel Corsa 🤦♂️ any time your video hits my RUclips homepage, I always hit play
Thanks!
How on earth could you drive that everyday with those loose floormats by the pedals it would literally drive me insane! Great video as always 👍
HI Matt agree a little profit is better than no profit well done .
Wow 250k plus subs that's amazing think you has sub 10k when I first joined this channel well done Matt keep up the good work 👏
Thanks!
Recently had a ride in a corsa, and it was quiet and smooth and comfortable.
Yes! In my experience the ultimate courtesy car! Had many over the years!
Set up a pound of Semtex, with a short fuse, get well clear , ( boom) job done.😎
I feel really sorry for you some times, I can't stand having a dirty car,,
Look forward to your next video.
Thanks for the sub!
I once drove a 2009 1.3 diesel corsa from Port Talbot in South Wales to Frankfurt in Germany on 1 tank of fuel. Loved that car
Presumably you had most of it remaining when you got there due to being transported on a trailer😂
We’re all glad you did get out of bed! Who’d have thought videos of old “sheds” could be so much fun! Keep them coming Matt!!
More to come!
Enjoying the videos Matt . Do previous owners of these cars ever watch and comment on your critique and how you turn around their car into something decent?
It surprises me how people treat their cars like rubbish bins . I like my car to be kept in tidy condition . Great videos enjoyable viewing
That cars begging for a stage 2 map and bonnet exit stack straight off the turbo.
Would make an excellent rush hour dodgem
It's again the Fiat-gm 1.3 diesel thats keeping it running. These engines are so reliable.
"What an absolute bucket" had me laughing out loud. You had such low hopes for this car, and you still sounded so disappointed. Still, you've offed it and made a few quid, and we're all hugely entertained, so it's a win win, Matt. Keep 'em coming.
Haha I guess so! Thanks
I see it has had a new alternator fitted. These are a very good car and can take a lot of abuse. I bought one 2 years ago with 300k km on it to teach my son to drive. It needed a new gearbox and general servicing but is running fine.
I just flipped one of these myself. I've got an almost full can of the white paint if you want it.
No need...magnolia is just fine😂
The parcel shelf is the funniest thing of seeing keep up the great work I think the fuel stickers for them
Hi Matt, good call to sell the Corsa. It's absolutely astonishing how a reasonable car can be abused in 8 years, with regular car servicing abandoned in the last 3 years. This car deserves another chance with a new careful owner and your video does it justice. A pity this car is not ULEZ compliant. Well done again.😀
Good call Matt bit of diy and good profit for the right dealer.
Great humor throughout, esp the inhaler comment.
love these videos - I was surprised how it turned out but I think you're doing the right thing. I never knew the trim on these cars was so flimsy.
They're sooo poorly built
It's not about the car, it's about the owner(s). I had a Corsa from 2012, 115,000 miles, nothing came off or broke from the plastic inside. This Corsa was obviously used and abused by who knows how many drivers, because it was obviously a rental car.
I would've retired the Chevrolet Spark. Such a lemon of a car. Learned that from experience.
