      Scotty Kilmer i am losing coolant somewhere. In the master cylinder i see it has dropped a little bit. I only have on cap to my coolant. The warning light comes on after a few miles of driving and a few mins of idle-ing, and the temperature gage goes up to 1/2. It normally sits around 1/4 to 3/8. Car is a 04 Saturn Vue v6 with 250k.

    Thanks mate, mechanic told me my car could have blown Head gasket or cracked head, milky oil and blowing white smoke. Would cost $490 to have it checked. I decided to not go ahead. I came across your video. I got seal-tite for heads, heas gaskets etc. Put in radiator. Low and behold it stopped the white smoke and the temperature gauge went back to normal. You are a legend. Thank you.

I appreciate people like you because you help us save money when the alternative is impossible. 1300 for intake and head gasket replacements? Nope, 100 bucks, 2 days, lots of pictures, lots of cussin. But, the feeling of breakin down an engine is straight up priceless.

    An update: I was quoted CDN$1,800 in the summer of 2011 to replace the head gasket in my '04 Dodge Dakota. Instead, I put two bottles of Steel Seal in it (as per the instructions in this vid - well, almost - I didn't remove the thermostat as it is buried deep on this model). Nevertheless, it has worked great ever since and no burning of coolant at all. August 2011 I did it and it's worked just fine! Thanks again, Scoty. Airborne!

      Mr kilmer i have honda city 2005 idsi engine 1300. When i bought i came to know that fan is direct and thermostat valve removed . Therefore car reduces 100 ro 200 ml coolant after abt 50km . Mechanic told me that cars head gasket might have damaged. But car is not showing symptoms like mixing of oil in radiator or mixing of coolant in oil chamber. Also car is not heating up on Ac and also starts well ,sounds good.. what should i do . Mechanic says that that removed thermostats valve is suspicious. Plz guide me what should i do . Mechanic says that headgasket changed in my car is not successful therfore we have to replace a complete 2nd hand engine assembly.

Some people have cars not worth the value of replacing but can't afford a new one. This is by far worth a shot instead of being without a car. Some people are just ignoramus. It's worth it to take a chance and seal a intake manifold leak . If you follow. Through on using the sealer properly chances are good of success. The best repair is very expensive . Scotty. And this is the first video of yours I have watched, on a whim, while looking for information with how to seal a pressure leak on distillation device. But you have the absolute BEST editing to get your point across without moving so fast that nothing else is happening in the video. Also, the content you present is straightforward and entertaining. Put Bar Leaks product in my 2009 4 cyl. Camry after following all instructions and the car has been running fine. I told my wife to tell me when the white smoke (steam ) from the muffler stop. After 3 minutes the exhaust cleared and was normal. I checked the oil and it was normal. I was so scared when the water and the oil mixed but I stopped the car immediately. It was 9 months ago that i poured that product in my radiator and have driven 6 thousand miles. So far nothing abnormal. A couple of mechanics have asked me about fixing the head gasket a few months ago and I told them that I repaired myself with the help of a friend in the states. So far so good. Like you said : If you are low in cash, why not use that alternative. Thanks Kilmer.

    Scotty, surprised that you failed to mention that a blown head gasket is usually a result of an over heated engine. Aluminum engine heads are notorious for warping under these conditions. I've replaced my head gasket twice on a '86 4WD Toyota 22RE & in both cases the head was so warped I seriously doubt a bottle of Steel Seal would have worked. However, your right, replacing it is a lot of work & can be expensive if you have a mechanic do it so it might be a viable option with qualification. Just read some of this thread, $100 a bottle ain't cheap. My last head gasket job, my cost, my labor, cost me $400, which included a complete gasket set (head, intake, exhaust, etc.) mill work on the head which included replacing a couple of valves & new head bolts.

    I really like this guy and know he knows his stuff. I say this as a mechanic myself. However, in a funny thought, I wonder if his neighbors are ever bothered by the streaks left in the road or the burnouts he does. 🤣 Overall, he seems like a great guy who cares about truly helping his customers the best way possible although I am strongly opposed to using head gasket sealer myself (again I’m a mechanic myself). I also don’t recommend it to friends who ask about it because I’ve seen how it clogs other parts in the cooling system such as heater cores. With that said, it can save a ton of money and get you out of a bind. I do not try to oppose him or go against his recommendations. This is just my personal opinion but I also admittedly have no experience with the brand sealer he used here. Keep up the great work and honesty Scotty! God bless you sir!!

    Scotty, I used the Steel Seal as per the directions and it worked wonderfully. I have a 1997 Lexus LX450 ( Land Cruiser). The LX450/Land Cruiser engines are great but, their “Achilles Tendon” is the head gasket. The vehicle had a little of smoke upon starting but, not anymore. I also, watched your video regarding the AT205. I used a similar product, Liqui Moly Oil Saver, with good results. Oil consumption is very minimal (valve guides ). Thanks for your awesome videos.

      Scotty.. I bought an older car and I was pretty sure they had put this sealant in it... I did a radiator flush and actually left it in too long and now it seems to have taken out the seal bc its blowing the radiator hose off pretty quick... I would like to keep it going for a long time should I go ahead and put the sealer in if id like to fix the problem. Soon as I can or should I just wait until I can do the big job.... I like to do things myself and my husband can borrow a hoist from his work or whatever tools I need. I've commented before on one of ur videos it's my 2003 pt cruiser... Well bottom line did the radiator flush having been left in too long in real the original gasket sealer? You think ? And if it did could the hole be too big to fix with sealer ... Doug styles - Before trying any "stop leak" formula I always advise. Checking the head bolts torque. In most cars is relatively easy and quick to remove the valve cover. So that's the best place to start, in conjunction with the stop leak I was able to "save" a lot of engines from a costly rebuild.

      @dougstyles5091 7 лет назад +2

      @crpth1 7 лет назад +1

      +Doug styles - Sometimes it's the best solution... :-)
      Personally I never ruled out cars or bikes for that matter, based on brand alone. Since I passed the wrench and the engineering side of the industry one thing I learned is that ALL mechanical/electronic stuff will eventually have problems. Sometimes it's a design fault, sometimes it's just a production batch. Quite honestly doesn't matter which brand we talk about. By far the best thing to do it's to solve a problem before it comes up in the first place...Preventive maintenance sounds awkward but it's MUCH cheaper than solving a huge headache later on. Be well. ;-)

  • @hammar324
    @hammar324 6 лет назад

    Scotty I trust you. I'm normally not a person to believe in magic additives, and anything that goes through your cooling system terrifies me. But I've developed a small leak in my CR-V's Head Gasket. The good thing is that I've caught it early before it's fully blown. I'm about to give this a shot because I know you know what you're talking about. Got the old coolant drained, #2 spark plug removed, and about to put the steel steal in now. Will update later with results.

    • @hammar324
      @hammar324 6 лет назад +4

      Update: It worked for a day or two then catastrophic failure even though I followed instructions to a T.
      First of all my heater core is clogged. Chunks of white residue are all over my cooling system even though I flushed the system again after the procedure to be extra safe. The head leak actually became much worse to the point that it won't even start half the time now and when it does there is so much coolant being burned and coming through the exhaust that there's a constant bluish/white cloud of exhaust. It was actually driveable before but now it's not. Now I'm forced to pull the head and replace the gasket.
      I should have trusted my instinct on this.
