  • This is part 1 of 2, changing the water coolant pump on our 2010/2011 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 twinport A12XER engine.
Part one - Getting access to the water pump, taking the driver side (right hand drive for UK) engine mount off and aux belt. The water pump on these are driven by the auxiliary belt (The timing is done on chain on the 1.2 twinport petrol engines) so it's getting the aux belt off, engine mount, engine mounting bracket, airbox and finally the water pump pulley off.
This video I tear the engine bay down to get to the pump and finally get the pump pulley out, next video removing the pump, identifying the damage and replacing it along with the thermostat.

I got the mounting bracket off by jacking it up a bit further :)
Important: if you have an LPG (A12XER) corsa, make sure to remove the lpg injector rails off if you decide to jack the engine up, otherwise the injector rails will damage (not sure what it's called) a piece of metal on the upper side inside the engine bay.

Good info that, yes whenever jacking the engine up/lowering always keep an eye, I kept checking and my daughter watched as I lifted or lowered the engine to make sure it didn't cause damage to any of the pipes or cables.

You have incorrectly identified the thermostat housing, it is on the left side of the engine and is fastened on directly to the water pump (3 bolts). To check the water level in the radiator, there is a bleed screw on the top left hand side, accessed with a long screwdriver through the front panel.

    That was painful.

@junkendriven do you turn the tensioner to the right or left if you want to get the belt off?

Turn it clockwise and it'll release the tension. it takes quite a bit of force, really difficult to do by yourself and fit the small retaining bolt (or in my case drillbit!) in there.

Could be thermostat stuck shut or a blockage. Try a coolant flush first
