    I was in that crowd, 17 years old, between high school and college. My friends and I weren’t really Ozzy fans, but I have to admit they won me over that day. Somehow, we ended up not far from the stage, and I get a kick out of trying to spot us in the crowd (so far only in Clapton’s “Layla” video.) It was insanely hot that day, and eventually they turned fire hoses on the crowd, and it was like heaven. Best concert of my life, hands down.

    I remember being in HS and paid $50 for a ticket to see Ozzy in concert. I saved up my money, at that time was a $5.15/HR job, part time. I saved gas money, and the cost of the ticket for myself, an a friend, and he broke his ankle that year, and canceled the consert.
    I kept my entry ticket. I never sent it in to get my money back.

Back then he was so old he was hobbling around on the stage throwing buckets of water on the crowd, missing half of the vocals for the songs cus he was too busy trying to get the crowd to clap to the beat. It was really pathetic. My girlfriend at the time was like "I feel sorry for ozzy" I was like "he's like the prince of hell or something, you aren't supposed to feel sorry for him" , She's all "but I still do" and she was right.

      all the Ozzy/Sabbath live album vocals are later studio overdubs (the lone exception being the Bark At The Moon VHS which has been officially unavailable since the mid-eighties because of that). On bootlegs of the same shows he normally sounds like s**t. The exception being the Cleveland tape used for most of Tribute which is really good even without the overdubs, copy-pastes and other little fixes they did in '87. This Live Aid clip is also definitely one of the better authentic live vocals I've heard from him. The vocal harmonizer does wonders here.

      @calebfuller4713 2 года назад +3

      They are VERY different singers. Ozzy is actually better than Dio melodically, although Dio is probably more expressive vocally and has better breath control. Ozzy would struggle to do Dio era songs, but then Dio also struggled with Ozzy-era Sabbath, as seen by his performance of Paranoid here:
      ruclips.net/video/sVgkRizZ4fY/видео.html
      He really can't hit the same notes as Ozzy in such quick succession, I don't think he even tries, just substitutes a growl or shout when he knows he won't make it.
      (This is not meant as a Dio dis BTW, just an example of how different they are vocally, and how Ozzy brought something unique to Sabbath no-one else really did).

    • @SealofPerfection
      @SealofPerfection 2 года назад

      @@calebfuller4713 Yes, totally different. I do remember Dio claiming he was a better singer, but I don't think he is at all.
      He is totally different, but not "better", at least not in any technical way. He can't sing or hold a note any better than Ozzy, and maybe not even quite as well.
      Just totally different voices and styles.
      Dio's voice, he adds the growl sound. Ozzy just sings with his normal voice.
      And that version of Paranoid sounds tuned down slightly.
      I still prefer Ozzy Sabbath, but I do like Dio solo.
