Over thirty five years later and still rated as the greatest live performance ever. There can't have been anyone in that stadium that Freddie didn't have entranced.
At a time when I am rapidly losing faith in humanity, this singular video of the legend Freddie Mercury and Queen with 70,000 people in the palm of their hand makes me so happy and gives me hope. Absolute magic!
Absolute perfection. His voice is amazing. He owns the stage and Wembley. The shot from behind him at 3:03 is just incredible with the crowd in front of him. And yes, you can watch it time and time again and it blows you away every time.
This is what Brian May has said about the audience participation in clapping to “Radio Ga Ga” at Live Aid "I remember thinking 'oh great, they've picked it up' and then I thought 'this is not a Queen audience'. Idk about everyone else, but I would pull out my phone for the same purpose there’s recordings of this concert. Documentation and for remembering, especially since I have a bad memory.

I agree, my friend. I saw a video of Psy doing a show live in Seoul, Korea and the energy reminded me of this. It’s that he owned his hometown just like Freddy did here.
@kill mnoj The only joke is what Queen is today with their pathetic replacement for Freddie and their pathetic attempt to stay in the limelight. Now U2 is still more popular than ever and now far more legendary and popular a band than Queen ever was
the tribute to freddie mercury is best for me - Queen, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Gun n Roses, Black Sabbath, Elton John, David Bowie, George Michael, Paul Young, Seal and other on the same stage
This is one of the most important parts of music history. Every band, singer wether they admit it or not try to get the crowd as pumped as Freddy did on this one day in music history, the whole stadium was singing along and hanging on every word..

@@suzannewasserman8370 I remember when it happened. I was a young one, and watched it live on TV. Many awesome artist were there...but Freddy nailed it
I was 23 that summer and listened to most of the show, which Queen stole. There'll never be another frontman like Freddie! To say he's missed is a huge understatement. What a loss to the world. Rest in peace, Freddie! We still love you.
I'm going to have to disagree with this. Although he's quite possibly the best singer to sing live, ever... Robbie Williams would have to take the charismatic showman title.
@@Chan-zv5kb Freddie was the best frontman, Bowie was the best solo artist. And together they were pure magic. Also, my heart was broken when each of them died, over 25 yrs apart. I may be agnostic, but I like to think that they're rocking out together now, fronting the best band in the afterlife. Jimi's on lead guitar; Chris Cornell's got rhythm and backing vocals; Cliff Burton's on bass, handing off to Lemmy when he wants a go; John Bonham and Neal Peart are having week long drum-offs, and Kurt Cobain's just layering some extra guitar noise over everything. This is an afterlife I could really get into.
I think why this is considered the 'best' live performance is the enormity of the occasion in line with the amazing performance that captured the mood of the entire crowd and how they responded. Firstly Queen were considered on the slide. Its easy to say with hind sight where it ranks, but I'd guarantee most other bands or singers mentioned would be at the height of their powers, Queen were considered a bit past it. Secondly they knocked it out of the park on a day almost every major act in music ever played at Live Aid or in the US event. We only remember this one though. Everyone in that stadium that day, and probably whoever watches this video, are for at least three minutes, a Queen fan if they weren't before. To use a phrase thats 'a kind of magic'. A unique performance from a unique band on a unique day.
Watching from the US, I made sure I caught Queens performance when it came on, the audience clapping along gave me chills and I realized I was watching something special.

This song was the best one performed at live aid, the energy in the crowd as the first dozen or so rows clapped to the beat in synchrony, Queen sure did know how to rock a crowd.
I remember the live telecast and thinking it was the best. Better than the USA cross (Australia got both). Molly Meldrum cemented their place with his immediate on screen TV review of it, and I still can't find that.
Imagine putting every ounce of your life force into a final performance, knowing you have a death sentence back then in the 80’s. It is beyond lengendary! Both Freddy and Elvis’ last performances are truly beyond measure 🙏❤️
The energy is off the scale. The unity between the band and the audience is extraordinary. Mercury has to be one ot the most charismatic individuals to ever walk the earth.

My only friend through teenage nights
And everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio
You gave them all those old time stars
Through wars of worlds invaded by Mars
You made 'em laugh, you made 'em cry
You made us feel like we could fly
So don't become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don't know, or just don't care
And just complain when you're not there
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour

@@Josh92SA A good runner up, but not the most charismatic individual. Bowie is my favourite tho cus he is just all about that music 😍
