Yup, I was sure I'm not gonna like it (medieval themes kinda bore me), and from previews map for whatever reason seemed to be small. I ended up going on expeditions there for hours, just exploring it is so much fun.
It has so MUCH, I love it so much. Just wirebugging around it and exploring is a blast, and I love the sheer variety of monsters. Every area feels so different and so alive.
Don’t know if it’s locked, but my first Garangolm was a Golden Big Crown. With my Lance, that fight felt like I was facing a colossus. It was fucking awesome
It's definitely not pre-determined to be a big one, my Garangolm urgent had me thinking it was smaller than I expected, then after I found out it was gold crown smallest.
I had a crown Shagaru Magala. It's scary when the map gets covered in purple orbs and beams. This theme song has various memories for every individual and moments that happened in battle.
I mean, you'd figure it does when the whole expansion is medieval fantasy themed. And, as a DM that throws MH monsters at his players, you and I both know where this is going
Official: The Citadel Theme My View: Theme of when you anger Garangolm and he then murders your friend. You try to get away on your Palamute but he keeps up by rocketing himself at you and chases you across the damn map.
Funnily enough, my first fight in this area was against a Goss Harag, when i was helping a friend. This music fit that perfectly, it really felt like I was facing off against a mad ogre, one with new moves and perils I hadn't yet seen. Say what you will about the guy, but I think that fight turns boys to men in MR. Love that monster, and this theme makes it all the better.
I wish Goss Harag's Master Rank variant made it so he turned one of his hands into a Great Sword Ice Blade and he had to hold up that arm with his free arm due to the immense weight. Just the idea of Goss wielding that just seems so terrifying to me, I wish it were real.
Climax is probably a better word. Crescendo is the process in which music gradually increases in volume (and often intensity, as a result). There are plenty of crescendos in this theme, including the one that leads up to the climax. For example: The quick increase in volume at 1:24 is a crescendo, and the section that starts at 1:27 is the climax.
Maybe I’m just lucky but the brass section at 1:25 hits as soon as garangolm or lunagaron go enraged every single time in that map and it’s downright EUPHORIC
listening to that cello... I want to play double bass again. I know its a different instrument, but I miss the deep vibration going through my chest as I played... I gotta get the sheet music for this... And yea, I'm a HH main lol
That's what you call a gown-goated theme. These monsters are so beautiful! I love them. The map's theme is cool, too. I like how we can see Malzeno and Pyre with this still screen, makes it ominous, eerie, and kinda exciting. =)
I was dueling a giant crown Garangolm on a friend's PC once, when i was desperately trying to escape the enraged volcano gorilla trying to wreck my ass on a sliver of health, when a Lunagaron showed up. The exact second Lunagaron announced its presence with a howl, 1:25 hit. What a damn madlad. Best non-Zinogre wolf boi.
Any Guardians here? The beginning of this piece gives me HUGE Grasp of Avarice vibes. That aside, this has gotta be up in the top 5 Area themes in all of MH. I'm thinking Ruined Ridge, Rotten Vale, Guiding Lands, Citadel, then Jurassic Frontier/Hoarfrost Reach. Lemme know y'all's list!
@@chemi169 Eh, fits Garangolm way better. He's slow, super strong and brutish, much more fitting for those heavy brass instruments. Wolf lizard should have a faster-paced theme that highlights its relentlessness, speed and finesse.

The Citadel looks so badass with Heaven's Mount in the background (I think it's Heaven's Mount as the only proof I have is that the Sanctuary is literally a zone in the locale and that the Shagaru is native there.)
As a challenge to myself, I played through all of Master Rank with my High Rank set. A defensive Gunlance set relying on Guard Reload for Offensive Guard and Artillery boosted Eruption Cannon for DPS. When I got to Lunagaron, under the moon, with this theme playing. It was when I knew I entered the big boys league. He went into that bipedal form and swung his massive claws at me and I held on to my shield for dear life. Any stray hit- let alone a mere overextension, would spell the end of me. But even through my shield I was taking so much chip damage that healing was mandatory. That music fit perfectly with the behemoth of a challenge that 40 minute fight was. Truly one of the most epic moments I've had in a video game.
I’m future games when Garangolm appears again I hope they just play this song instead of generic area music. Like how Rathalos theme is just the theme that plays in the area, but has become synonymous with Rathalos. I want this to become synonymous with Garangolm.
