A 0.5 - 1 sec gap around corners was precisely the issue - cars could close to within a second using slipstream down a straight, but fall back while cornering and never actually reach DRS range in a detection zone. Still, it's great to hear that the cars feel racier than last year! Bring on 2022!
Really worried about Haas and Alfa Romeo .... only 160 and 175 laps of testing. Curious what'll happen in the front. Ferrari looks really solid and so do McLaren and Mercedes. RBR seem pretty quiet, not sure if it has to do with confidence or uncertainty. Let the games begin!
Not sure what people were expecting. Assets are limited for everyone, but it's not like engineering talent has changed in the teams, or at least not that much I think. Money can only do so much, you need talent (and more money doesn't ALWAYS translate to talent)

Before people here are coming to a conclusion based on the times. Mercedes best time on the softest tyre was only 0.003 s faster than on the C4, which was also used by Perez. These times aren’t telling a thing, especially because Hamilton lifted hard in sector 3 on his C5 run BTW all are sandbagging. I would be surprised if a single car would look similar to these cars now
Yea I'm thinking the only reason they even used the softer tyres was purely for degradation and handling characteristics. Not for outright performance numbers.
this pre pre-season testing has been fun to watch, can't wait for testing Bahrain to begin in the next two weeks fun fact also, Alfa romeo completed the MOST laps last year in pre season testing, and they came back this year, and were among the bottom two teams in terms of laps this year.
Fun Fact: Bottas completed a total of 54 laps throughout this weekend's testing. There were at least 29 times in which a driver completed more laps than that in a single session. This man has some terrible luck.

sand bagging isn't much of a thing during these kind of tests, none will really be pushing to the limits for a whole lap its all about data gathering, you can tell the Merc was alot smoother on day 3 from day 1 already though

well reliability issues are fixable in the future but their energy package is sealed till 2025 so it kinda makes sense to put all their work into performance first and then fix reliability
the teams can't bring power related upgrades after the engine freeze, which will happen in March I think. but reliability updates are allowed, so going for more power and trying to fix the reliability later is probably a smarter choice in the long term, doesn't mean it won't be painful in the short term.
The cars looks absolutely pretty . The design is something that would impress people of all ages. But with the addition of 18 inch wheels the car looks more 'Indy' to me. No wonder in near future they would install a bulletproof windshield to the halo to protect drivers from debris, because these cars looks like they gonna make a lot of particles flying around during race. The 2017-2021 seems to have the best technical design with required safety and performance parameters. The current design with its lower rake and higher front wing is gonna be tougher in those high speed elevations of spa circuit and gonna be crazy on DRS zones. Also to be fun watching these cars making quick lap times at Monaco especially !

Then the race starts and the air is glowing with spray. The cars are slowed down which makes it slightly safer and the strategies would be epic on a drying track. It would likely be half wet/inters and half on dry tires. It would be epic.
Imagine being hampered by a regs change last minute and still coming back to win constructors and ending up being faster than the original pioneers of those regs

Having the diffuser run 2/3's the length of the car benefitted Mclaren, their indycar would have provided a basic guideline of centre of pressure under the floor, ferrari need to move this to correct the issue.

This was suspected as the cars don’t have the vertical endplates on the rear wing like last year that aided in lateral stability.

Having the diffuser run 2/3's the length of the car benefitted Mclaren, their indycar would have provided a basic guideline of centre of pressure under the floor, ferrari need to move this to correct the issue.

There is no reason for f1 to get political and mention it. Its best for them that they just focus on the racing.
