Adrian Newey is the most successful designer in F1 history - and among the best DESIGNERS in the world. Having drawn up some of the most dominant cars in history.
Today’s fans will know him from Red Bull success, but he has won over the 13 world championships. With teams like Williams and McLaren. Over those years, the signature ‘Newey design style’ runs through - even up to this year’s DOMINANT Red Bull.
Look at this. At the front nose of the dominant RB18 from 2022 - and the chassis has a distinctive V-shape around the drivers feet.

So, it’s still a bargain, especially when you consider money produce by the points and sponsorship attracted from winning the WCC / WDC is worth hundreds of millions. @The_ZeroLine 10 месяцев назад +4

@@Cynderfan35 I didn’t say they could and Ferrari is the LAST team Newey would ever sign for. RBR understood him as a person and have given the perfect work/life balance (allowing him to step away when he’s burnt out or bored with F1) as well as equity in the team and the power to not be overruled by business execs outside the team. He knows what a cluster f Ferrari is, how they’d expect him to be there 24/7, how they’d interfere endlessly, etc.
Stroll probably did offer him some insane amount if given the chance. So, $25m is nothing.

still I wonder if people ever looked at it the other way around: instead of Newey making the cars that made his drivers champions, maybe he had some insane drivers driving his creations (Mansell, Prost, Vettel, Verstappen, Hakkinen) which led to his cars winning? I'm not saying it is per se the case, but for instance in 2021 had it been anyone but Max in that car there would be no WDC for RB. Even 2022 if RB had a slightly worse driver and Ferrari hadn't been as stupid they wouldn't have won WDC.

Indy 500 demands are different from any other oval or race. It used to be back in the day, pre 90s, people would build a car or engine specifically just for Indy 500 because the rules for that race were slightly different than the rest of the series.

      @dickfitzwelliner2807 11 месяцев назад

@Real28 only thing that really changed was that the engines are spec through the season. Now the aero is very different, there's been a huge understanding of drag now so instead of high hp(hope it lasts) engines they are less stressed and they know they can last the distance. While the more hp was more interesting because they could always blow up, it wasn't truly as interesting as a show of driver skill

As a Ferrari fan, I have nothing but respect for Adrian Newey. The guy has been at the top of his game for decades! When Ferrari beat McLaren to the title in 2000, that was more than just winning for Ferrari (even though Ferrari had to wait 21 year for another title), we've beaten one of the best designers in F1 history and it was one of Adrian Newey's cars! Though prior to 2000 when Schumi, Brawn, and Ferrari made miracles, winning races that we shouldn't have was just as sweet!

I knew he was a smart guy, but after reading his book and the insight he has to chassis setup, ride heights etc, and knowledge of the complete car end to end really makes him an unstoppable force when it comes to designing cars. He doesn't just focus on aerodynamics like others in his role, even swapping the pushrods end to end last year for mechanical AND aerodynamic effect and knowing what both will do to driveability and tire wear plus the aero bonuses

Newey wasn't involved in the FW12 from 89. He started at Williams with the FW14, two years later. Around that time, he was with March/Leyton House, building the aerodynamically most advanced cars on the grid.

Great video. As other commenters have said, he’s a legend and can name his price. Williams didn’t appreciate him and they have never recovered. Would be good to do a video on his peers in the other teams. Newey is the only designer I know. Maybe the other teams design by committee

    12 Drivers' titles, right? Newey's achievements are amazing but I'm sure his cars have won 12 - 4 Williams (92, 93, 96, 97), 2 McLaren (98, 99) and 6 Red Bull (10, 11, 12, 13, 21, 22).
If you add Constructors, it's way more than that - his cars have won 11 so total titles in F1 should be 23.

What you content makers still don't realize is that Newey did lots of ground effect technology studies in the Aston Martin Valkeiry road car project which findings are incorporated in the RB18. That was a very clever move as it bypassed the budget cap completely.

6:18 hearing Adrian say Indy cars at the time were more sophisticated than F1, seems outrageous from our perspective now. It’s sad to think what might have been had Indy not split up in the 90’s into two different race leagues. We might have been privileged to enjoy two premium single seater series at the highest level of engineering. Indy has began to recover in recent years but with cost caps and spec formula it still has a way to go.

Maybe not smart of a rb fan to share this notable thing aswell. But Newey even makes fans jump teams, since we also love who's most sensible at a track and with the car. Man those Mika days were awesome. Really resembles the sweet championcombo with Honda today.

A video about the double DRS System of Red Bull would be very interesting. One of the reasons why red bull is so dominant right now is their high straightline speed and drs effectiveness, so to here about this in a video would be great and interessing.

The word is overused, especially in sports and ESPECIALLY in racing, but Newey is a legend. I've recently been reading his book HOW TO DESIGN A RACE CAR and it's a great read. His early days in CART/IndyCar are really amazing to read about...here was a 26 yo guy pulling double duty race engineering for Mario Andretti with the legendary Newman/Haas team (yes, THAT Newman, Paul) and designing Lola's Indy Car (after he'd returned rival March to glory the previous year.) And that was just his warm up act. And epically talented ,driven man...and a purely class act on top. We're fortunate as racing fans to be able to enjoy watching the fruits of his labor.

It's really interesting to see how creative Newey has been through the years, impressive.
Also they had so much freedom in the past with active suspension, aero etc. I wonder how fast the cars would be today if they got more freedom. But especially I wonder what innovations they would come up with.

Newey designs the whole car. All the Technical dept must do is put it together. Horner Marshall’s the whole team, his job to work them together. This is one of the key reasons Red Bull is winning. Optimizing everything is the key.
