They still fit lenses in the same manner for patients who have had failed Lasik surgery, dry eyes or difficult prescriptions.

I wear scelera hard contact lenses and the process of putting them on is still the same till this day. Thank god for the technology that we have now.

I doubt they are scleral contacts but corneal. But, if they are scleral, then you have a doctor from another age!

Actually, for certain prescriptions and eye conditions, this same type of lens is gaining in popularity now. They are made of gas permeable plastics and more easily worn. They are popular for persons with dry eyes, failed Lasik surgery, and corneal irregularities. They rest on the Sclera ( white ) of the eye and do not touch the cornea.

I have a suspicion that she had the same lenses previously and this was a "re-fit". She left the clinic so casually and briskly. When I first was fit with hard lenses, I was only permitted to wear them "around the house" until I became used to them. I was dizzy and disoriented..

I was surprised they did not fit her with corneal lenses, but perhaps due to her very strong prescription scleral lenses were chosen. The early corneal lenses were loosely fit and "popping out" was not uncommon, this would be horrific for a person wearing say, a minus 14 power ( which is quite blind )...
