Kirsty - Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am 65 and haven't had an art lesson since school (well over half a century ago). I've always loved drawing but never really known how to start learning the techniques. My "projects" always looked amateurish and I was never really pleased with *anything* I finished. When lockdown started last year I decided to try really hard to improve my art (I believe you are never too old to learn). I've followed your tips and techniques, watched your great tutorials and really practised and tried hard. Last week I drew a dog portrait for a friend who lost her beloved pet last year. I was actually proud of it, for the first time ever. She was so surprised she cried with pleasure. I wish I could show you just how much I have improved, thanks to you. I shall keep trying and (hopefully) keep getting better. You've made my retirement so much better - thank you.
Your story is pretty much mine! When I was at school all those years ago, it seemed to me that people were either artistic, or not! But as a child I loved colouring, crayons, and all things related. I've seen some videos where people blend pencil colours with oil and brush, so I wanted to know is that because of difference in colour pencils like yours is of some other material different from them or it's just another way to blend. I would like to blend like you without brush and oil.
Hello, My question is could I use rubbing alcohol instead of using solvent? In my town, solvent is not available. I'm also not sure whether it’s available in our country or not. If I could use rubbing alcohol, then what is the method?
CAN YOU PLEASE DO A VIDEO ON HOW TO SPECIFICALLY BLEND SMOOTHLY WITH THE FABER CASTELL COLORED PENCILS? IVE SEEN OTHER VIDEOS ONLINE AND I DIDNT REALLY UNDERSTAND BUT WITH YOUR OTHER VIDEOS I UNDERSTAND PLEASE OR CAN SOMEONE IN THE COMMENTS HELP ME?
I have the problem when I want to go back over areas with coloured pencils that I previously blendet with oms and then hardly anything sticks to it, because the surface with the oms has become too smooth. The area that I want to go over again is often too small for texture fixative.
There could be a number of things causing this, but here are the most likely ones: 1.) You added way too much solvent to blend that area. This over saturation can damage the tooth of the paper and alter the consistency of the paper. Unfortunately once this has been done there is not much that can be done to fix it. 2.) You aren't using a paper that is meant for liquid media. I recommend a hot pressed watercolor paper or a mixed media paper, these are both good with solvent and will allow you many layers so long as you don't oversaturate the paper. As far as trying to fix an area too small for texture fixative, you could get a product called touch up texture. This product allows you to paint on more texture to the small areas where you need it. Hope this is helpful!
lol, i regularly press the pencil hard onto the paper, and still manages to add layers to it. it could be that it depends on what brand you're using, but from my experience working with polychromos the drawing just turns alot more vibrant and well put together (if you know what you're doing haha)
She probably won't so here's what I recommend doing. Watch the video and pick whatever colors you have that look similar. The colors don't have to be exactly the same as hers, they just need to be close. Then once you have selected your own version of the colors, follow her instructions substituting in your colors for hers. Hope this is helpful!
I have a doubt, so if I want to make say a darker shade of pink because I don't have the pencil of the exact shade, how do I do it. Do I just shade with black on top of it?.....could you please explain?

I've seen some videos where people blend pencil colours with oil and brush, so I wanted to know is that because of difference in colour pencils like yours is of some other material different from them or it's just another way to blend. I would like to blend like you without brush and oil.
3:48 I agree. Press to hard make paper flat 👍. Good lnowledge Kirsty 👍

I never did an art class so this is great. Also, I love that sharpener. When can I get that?
Many, many thanks for your vids. They have helped me enormousely and answered alot of questions I had. Thank you so much.
Hello, My question is could I use rubbing alcohol instead of using solvent? In my town, solvent is not available. I'm also not sure whether it’s available in our country or not. If I could use rubbing alcohol, then what is the method?
Which pencil sharpener did you use? I have faith that I will, hopefully someday, find the perfect sharpener!
Question: is it ok if I like some parts of the wrong side? Some not all. Try and mix them both.

I have the problem when I want to go back over areas with coloured pencils that I previously blendet with oms and then hardly anything sticks to it,
because the surface with the oms has become too smooth. The area that I want to go over again is often too small for texture fixative.
There could be a number of things causing this, but here are the most likely ones:
1.) You added way too much solvent to blend that area.

Can I ask you a question
Can we blend with white colour pencil?
Your art is wonderful, you are very talented.
lol, i regularly press the pencil hard onto the paper, and still manages to add layers to it. it could be that it depends on what brand you're using, but from my experience working with polychromos the drawing just turns alot more vibrant and well put together (if you know what you're doing haha)
Yes I apply pressure . Looks good
Hey Kristy can you do a video on making the six skin tones with arteza color pencils

I have trouble with smudging of my graphite and coloured pencils , I prefer to sketch with 6 b or higher stresses me out
In blending you can use tissue paper or cotton, thanks
Yay Kirsty is back hope you make more vids soon ❤️ hope you like my comment I learned much because of your vids thank you Kirsty
