      Ice type is fine. This is like saying Grass also needs a buff.
      Ice type POKEMON suck outside the more recent ones. Weavile, Mamoswine, Kyurem B and W, Alolatales. Thats it. Every other is just... ugh

    • @Lauren_C
      @Lauren_C 6 лет назад +65

      @@moseswong1231
      The only Pokemon that can really reliably set up Aurora Veil is Alolan Vulpix (due to Snow Warning), and even with the defensive buffs, will probably not survive a super effective (hint: Fighting and Steel are extremely common attacking types) attack after Stealth Rock damage, with the Aurora Veil itself being easily stalled out soon after.
      That said, defensive typing alone doesn't necessarily render Pokemon useless if the Pokemon's other attributes make up for it. Volcarona is a very prime example, as despite having very many weaknesses as well losing 50% HP to Stealth Rock, it's offensive prowess is quite terifying owing to a combination of great movepool, offensive typing, and stats in the right places.
      There are few Ice type Pokemon that are sufficiently threatening or bulky that the defensive drawbacks of having an Ice typing are mitigated, and Auroral Veil does not change that. Even the offensive presence of the Ice type has dwindled somewhat due to Fairy types being a thing for dragon slaying duties.
      Mamoswine is probably the standout one among Ice Types due to it's strong offense alongside priority Ice Shard and enough bulk (and Thick Fat ability) to mitigate the type disadvantages. Shell Smash Cloyster can be quite the terrifying offensive threat as well. Neither of these Pokemon require Aurora Veil to be effective.

    • @kazoorion7993
      @kazoorion7993 6 лет назад +40

      Grass types ACTUALLY needs a buffs as well though.

    • @Lauren_C
      @Lauren_C 6 лет назад +52

      @chaos0205
      Provably the only thing I woyld change is make Ice resist Fairy, and make it auper-effective against Fairy. This would serve to make Ice type a slightly more viable partner for dragons, and balance out the absurdly good Fairy type a bit. And it makes sense. Soft and cuddly probably doesn't much care for cold and barren.
      Ice has been predominantly an offensive typing, so keeping to that aspect, perhaps Hail can directly boost either Attack or Special Attack of Ice type Pokemon.

    Nice one, again! Becoming more interested as these videos keep coming out. It's taught me a lot of Pokemon I viewed as not very threatening, or VERY threatening...were quite the opposite. I hope Lapras in particular goes back up in usage sometime soon, despite the ice-typing giving no resistances weighing it down. Still one of my favorite water-types!
    As for what's next, I'm voting for a Nidoking/Nidoqueen video! I know Nidoking is utilized in speedruns and regular playthroughs of the Kanto games, so I'm interested to see how it, and the queen did competitively!

      Indeed. So if he did want to talk about both, he'd talk about Onix for at least Generation I and Steelix for at least Generation II, but I have a feeling that once Steelix came around Onix wasn't really used anymore since Steelix could do everything it could and Rhydon and Golem already had the Rock/Ground combination covered. I'm curious as to how Steelix fared once Metagross came around for the meta.

    I've been getting into competitive battling in Gen 6 and 7 for a while now, and every time I see Lapras on my opponent's team in Battle Spot Singles I ALWAYS see it use Thunder for some reason, not sure why? I feel like Thunder is only used to handle bulky water types but doesn't freeze dry already do that well enough? Obviously that completely caught me off guard, just don't understand why Lapras would run Thunder in its set.

    Ice type Pokemon are underpowered, and I think they should:
    1. *Resist Fairy,* and possibly also *Electric* or *Flying*
    2. Deal *neutral* damage *to Fire*
    3. *No longer* be *weak to Rock,* and possibly also *Fighting*
    Because:
    1. Fairy is OP and can definitely afford it, plus fairies hating the cold seems reasonable. Ice is also an electric insulator, and flimsy flying attacks probably wouldn't budge it much.
    2. Fire already has 6 resists, and it would melt ice into water, which it is weak to
    3. Most Ice types are not actually made up of ice, and even if they were, the thick ice may hold up better against stones / punches than 'normal' (skin, muscle and bone) would.
    (Care should be taken that Electric/Flying/Rock/Fighting remain balanced after the potential changes.)

    It's a shame Lapras isn't so good anymore; I really like the design, typing and movepool. It can do really well in a team if you play through a game casually. But for competitive it just misses out unfortunately; you explained it perfectly in the video. Maybe in the future we can see an improvement for Lapras in the form of a mega evolution or regional variant.
    I'm still gonna ask for the Togepi line. They started out so weak. But then you got Togekiss. I'm curious how well Togekiss holds up today ;)

    • @BackpackBanjo
      @BackpackBanjo 7 лет назад +3

      Werewolf211 Jolteon couldn't touch Mewtwo. literally nothing could, except Slowbro after an Amnesia or two, and even then...
      Jolteon has Pin Missile but is much more fragile than Mewtwo, has no STAB on PM, and no way to heal. Mewtwo stomps Jolteon.

    Lapras can single handedly take down Blaine, Giovani, Bruno’s rock types, lances dragons.
    And half of blues team no matter who your starter is.

      I hate to break it to you, but this channel talks about the Multiplayer of the games, not the gym leaders and the like.
      But you are right. Lapras is the Queen of Kanto with defenses that not even the strongest pokemon can break easily.
      I gave mine Surf, Ice Beam, Rain Dance, and Thunder, and it wrecked house.

    Bold nature,
    EVs spread: 232 Def
    212 So.Def
    and the remaining on Sp.A
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Water Absorb
    Moves: Surf, Thunder, Rain Dance, Rest.
    Calm mind mismagius/xatu/sigilyph and fighting types counter this set pretty hard but it's honestly doing pretty well
