How right you are ... his collection of 'licks' and his understatement were so connected to his beautiful tone .... never played cliches .... and always played to the music ... not to show off his technique (sorry Arturo ... sorry James Morrison ... and so many other technicians...)

I like this version of the song better than the one with Duke Jordan's trio in concert. Not only does Chet's horn free up the piano to provide substitute harmonies and alternate voicings but the rhythm section is even more accomplished (if that's possible) and recorded with much greater clarity. Moreover, Duke knows when NOT to play, letting the powerful, automomous bass (is that Nils Orstad Pederson?) supply all the time and harmony that Chet needs to sound good while bringing life to a song that could otherwise become bland and even tedious. (Duke's playing is more varied and inventive than on the aforementioned version--though not as fluent, assured and creative as his playing of a decade or two earlier.)
Knowing when not to play is somewhat of a rare skill I'm afraid, it's a top priority that is rarely treated as such. Space is wonderful in music, but so many musicians are unable to leave breathing room in their playing. Not here....
wow .....Norman Fearrington played with the great Eddie Harris. He is a wonderful person and drummer. I miss Eddie Harris. Sincerely Peter Tschirky Switzerland
used to hate chet baker thought he was boring, now however after enroling in a degree in performance jazz i truly appreciate his genius, what he does is effective and musical. I love transcribing his solo's and incorporating them into my playing.

The softest touch ever in the mouthpiece.
The lip bends he used, especially in the 1950s ... so tasty and effortless. Summertime (1955) is the classic example.
If this isn't beautiful, I don't know what is
Delicious to listen and feel!!!
NHØP is really one of my favorite bassist, he is amazing with Chet.
I agree, I always like to hear him on the bass.

Great album! You can't go wrong with any of the Chet Baker's SteepleChase albums. That's a fact!!!

Who could ... would.... vote a "thumbs down" on this track?
Why even bother to think about them?
Yeah, other people's opinions don't really affect me. I don't seek their validation.

So nice.
Someone knows where is possible to watch or maybe download the chords/sheets?
I found this: www.jazztrumpetsolos.com/chet.htm
I'm still looking for chords so I could put on BandInABox and play with.
Thanks
Go see on Duke Jordan trio's video of the song I left a comment with a link. You'll find it easily.

듀크 조던의 피아노가 아닌 쳇베이커의 트럼펫으로 연주된 no problem도 너무 좋네요. 앨범자켓보니 뒤에 들리는 피아노가 듀크조던 같네요.
Here is the score for the solo. It's free ;) www.elaulademusica.com/partituras

clear and strong and always with that touch of sadness. great, great stuff.
From the great 1979 album with Duke Jordan, Niels-Henning Orsted-Pedersen and Norman Fearrington. A quiet masterpiece.
