Thank you for this advice. I used to work for small companies that started in our founder's garage, literally. It was bought out by Curtiss-Wright years ago after it became a multimillion dollar company itself.
This video outlines how they did it.
The hard part is finding a mentor to begin with. 🤦♂️

Yes, you're right, building the relationships that lead to a mentor protégé agreement takes time. It's great that you understand the path forward.

Thank you so much. This video is so informative. I am just getting started and the Mentor Protégée program is exactly what I need.
Thanks!!
How do I get a mentor, so I can just learn or intern with?
Awesome content there. If I am Cybersecurity analyst who just discharged from service (with secret clearance)and with a registered consulting/service small IT business. Can I get Govt contract even without much business experience in view to partner with larger companies?
Great business! Congratulations! If I were you, I would start by building business experience as a subcontractor. Check out my videos on how to find large government contractors that you can subcontract to. And start calling people in your area. Most likely, you're going to get your first contract as a result of a conversation with someone. Let me know how it goes.
This was a great video thank you! I do however have a question. What if you are selling a product that does not have a specific bid ? Or the product is an accessory to services/products that have bids. How do we work around that or submit a bid for that?
The typical approach is to team with a company that is submitting a proposal. Your company supplies your product to the offeror. They include your product as part of their proposal to the government.
How do you prevent a joint venture from becoming a pass-thru?
I think the answer to what you're asking is in the Mentor-Protege rules. Typically, companies enter into a Mentor-Protege Agreement and then form a Joint Venture with their Mentor. Also, note that there are lawyers who specialize in government contracting and they know all the ins and outs of how to set up a Joint Venture for a government contract. setting up a joint venture for a government contract is not a DIY thing.
Hi, Can you give some additional information for the mentor protégé program
Where can I find a mentor when I start off with government contracts?
It starts by meeting people and building relationships. I recommend you start attending networking events. I have a video on how to find these events. Most are free to attend.
Hello, my entity's registration was just approved... And I'm looking to partner with a company/a person with more experience (as a mentor you mentioned here).
I was wondering how we can contact you if we have specific questions? Thanks
Post your questions on my RUclips videos, i'm happy to answer questions! I've answered most of the viewer questions i've received in my Complete Course on How to Become a Government Contractor. The course is free on RUclips, so definitely check it out.
SBA told me I have to be in business for a year before I can be certified.
for which certification? I know for 8(a) certification they generally want you to have been in business for 2 years because they want to see that you have a likelihood of business success. The government wants to work with companies that have experience and will be around to successfully complete any contract.
@@FedAccess for minority owned business, but we started the process of applying to 8(a) certification. Love your videos!
That's great that you've started on the 8(a) application. Good job planning ahead!
Hi , Thanks For content. My ? Is How does it work if Me as a Minority business wants to hire a staffing company to fullfil work the government is soliciting ?
Can I be prime as middle man and sub out the work the staffing company in agreement with me?
I know I have to manage something but just wondering can you bring it home! Thanks
I did a deep dive on this topic! Check out my video titled Subcontracting Deep Dive
Where do we go to get the required certification needed to obtain government contracts?
Check out my complete course on government contracting. It explains everything in detail. It's free on my RUclips page
How do you learn what products or services the government wants?
Do a search in beta.sam.gov and in fpds.gov. And don’t forget that there are also more opportunities as a subcontractor to large government prime contractors! So talk to large government prime contractors in your area as well.
How can you firm a partnership as a broker providing various products and services to the government?
I think the first step is to figure out exactly what you're selling.
How do we get in touch with a mentor? I don’t even know how to find someone that does this.
Start attending events and meeting people. I have a video on how to find upcoming events: ruclips.net/video/fKoVaeJM_sk/видео.html
i have an apparel / canvas printing for business and i think there is not much fed contracts for me.. thinking to expand into more ventures. do u know of niches, the govt takes most often?
Have you checked out fpds.gov? That website has data on contracts awarded.
Do you have a mentor protégé program?
The SBA has a Mentor-Protégé program and its a great way for businesses to grow. Learn about it here: www.sba.gov/federal-contracting/contracting-assistance-programs/sba-mentor-protege-program
How do I find a mentor? I have been calling alot of place but now response.

How do you get a mentor?
most people start by getting to know people in the industry, e.g., by attending industry events
Hello. I am a service disabled connected veteran with a logistics company. I am in the beginning process of trying to get my business certified for government contracting. Do you offer services to help aid with getting certified, etc. I don’t know what I am doing and I’m trying to find someone, anyone that helps with this kind of thing. Or can you point me in the right direction for help? There is a lot of info I don’t understand. Thank you so much for your videos and time! God Bless!
For service disabled veteran owned business, you self certify when you register your business in SAM. Check out my video on how to register in SAM. Also, you can contact your local PTAC. They provide free help with getting registered to do business with the government. Check out my other videos for help with different steps in the contracting process, and post in the comments if you have questions.
Hello , I have been winning Gov. Contracts for a couple years now with the DLA but I feel like I'm hitting a ceiling , I'm winning all the time but I really want to start getting at the bigger numbers .Most videos I see or the things I read is geared to proposal but all of my submissions are electronic in the Dibbs site ,Do you have any insight on what I need to do ?
I would love to talk with you
Sounds like you are doing great! Congratulations! To access the bigger contracts, i suggest you focus on building relationships with the people issuing those contracts. Build relationships with both the project people who have the need and the procurement people who issue the contracts.
I have a question for you. How are you dealing with the "Packaging and Marking" requirements? I would appreciate any suggestions.
Hi, Thanks for your videos their a great help. For someone just starting his or her own business could you make a video on how to form the best business entity to fit our need. I'm personally interested in forming a corporation but don't know where to start. I was thinking about hiring a lawyer to do it for me, what do you think?
The mechanics of forming a company are straightforward -- the harder part is deciding on the right type of entity to form. You are smart to be researching this. I would suggest contacting your local SBDC. Many SBDCs have training on this.
Scorp. Is the way to go.
No, you do not need a lawyer.
Your state should have a state government website you can go to, fill out a form, and wait for your state to approve you as a corporation (Scorp.)
I live in Florida, our website is Sunbizz.org.
You should Google, (your state name) form to become an Scorp.
Is there a company or someone that can help our company through the 8a application. We have a Native American owned company.
Yes. Contact your local PTAC. They will help you with the 8a application, and their help is free.
I’m a new business and got registered and everything. Sole Proprietor llc . Can I bid on a gov contract
Read the solicitation you are interested in and see if you meet the requirements. If you are a new business you may need to team in order to meet the requirements for past performance experience. Many new businesses start by subcontracting. That allows you to build your past performance experience.
Hi, do you have a mentor program?
No mentor program: i'm focused on helping as many people as possible by making videos. If you have questions and ideas for future videos, let me know!
This is exactly what I was looking for, I am in the erospace business for many years and I am now thinking of building my own company, I just don't know what service to provide yet. Any ideas?
Think about what you know, and who you know. Will one of your former employers give you a subcontract? Many people start their businesses that way.
I want to get involved in government contracting but I don't know how to start or what to contact.. starting completely from scratch.. what should I do...???? Any advise of help would be greatly appreciated..
This is a good question. I'll do a video on this soon. Start by figuring out what your business sells, and then do research to find out who buys what you sell.
How do I find a mentor?
It all starts with building relationships with people. I would start attending networking events and industry days, where you can meet government contractors.
Hello, I've been in busy for 16yr. I'm registrar on sam. How do I find a company to do a joint venture with me ?
I would attend business matchmaking events. There used to be alot of these, but they shut down due to the pandemic. There are still some virtual events, and i expect the in-person events will be restarting sometime.
im calling bs on these comments
Hi! By chance do you offer a training program or would you recommend one for learning as a new person for beginning in federal procurement? I'm looking for an a-z structured program to learn this incredible business. Thank you!
