Don't know if you'd take this as a compliment or not, but you always gave me that early RUclips vibe (circa 2007). I dig it.

I've probably been following you since the beginning. There was always something I could take from your videos, even though I don't do martial arts.

I like how calm you are about this topic. There are others who aren't as calm and might be just as up set about it as you are.

Changed my profile to a family profile so I’ve had to go back through slowly and resub to the channels I watched all the time. I just saw this. Gotta say I love these free form videos. It does feel more personal. Always gonna pop in and watch some Sage when I need a lifeline to pull myself back into a sense of reality and community.

I just found your channel today and think it is awesome! I went back and watched a few of your first videos and have to say I'm impressed. Not many people care or learn from history these days.

Bit late but I appreciate the type of stuff you're talking about. Similarly I'm sure there are many other people including myself, who thought youtube has been basically heading down this route for a long time. It's hard for basically someone to make content that is interesting to them without having to hard associate themselves with essentially what they are producing. What you're talking about I think is a very interesting topic, as I watched someone else undergo a similarly interesting route, Northernlion. He's spoke his mind clearly to his audience and I think he has a very fortunate situation not many people are able to have on youtube. He has an audience whose there for HIM, not his content, the personality of the person drives what they produce - rather than what they are producing driving them. Very personalized content is difficult to make since its easier to have someone be essentially "THE PERSON" to go to for content (as you stated VaatiVidya).
A lot of the topics you touch on are things I would love to see people talk about, such as the topic of "freedom" for work and being able to live "comfortably" as long as you can have your needs met. Various other mentioned subjects also catch me such as, philosophy, ethics, but realistically as you phrased it, is really dependent on the audience that is willing to watch. I hope this comment isn't too scrambled and this does reach you somehow, but I genuinely hope things work out somehow for youtube content creators and you are able to figure out what kind of decision you want to take your channel in.

That really sucks about the harassment and death threats. I like those topics, but I don't blame you for avoiding them. Google would do well to put up ads that are less annoying. I set my blocker to not block the ones that aren't hardware intensive (it blocks all YT ads).

John and Hank Green from the vlog brothers channel have talked over the years about the "churn", or the drift in the audience over time. Like you, they've been making videos since the early days of youtube and they've experienced 'eras' of different viewers and seen the expectations shift over time, having arrived at a community almost entirely unrecognizable from what it was with few of the original members. I always admired that through it all they kept making those 4 minute videos every week as a journal of whatever was on their mind in this sort of penpal relationship through the aether, regardless of what they knew the audience would feel about the content. I think at the end of the day, its best to stay true to yourself and pursue your passions in your content. The audience can be defined by the content if you follow your own path, or the content can be defined by the audience if you try to please them, that is the creators dilemma. The churn is inevitable; catering to an ephemeral audience is chasing the wind and pigeon holing yourself to fit an archetype will lead to frustration. I think you hit the nail on the head and I'd love to hear your thoughts on the big picture issues. I just found your channel yesterday from LKChen of all things btw.

Just founf your channel, went through some videos. I'm a conservative/right wing type of dude, haven't played a game in years and have little interest in swords. Some of your opinions are in total opposition to mine and I didn't like some of your past videos about religion. But I just subscribed. I like how honest and kind hearted you come off, you're real. You're also a smart dude, I like that. As long as you'll stay real I'm gonna stick around. Blessings from Jerusalem.

As a person, that starts RUclips at the subscription page (that means that unlike those who start at home page I do notice all of your videos), am subscribed to various channels that cover completely different topics, and do get quite a lengthy feed, I can tell you one thing for sure - at the pace that you put up your videos, even if 99% of them would be on some topics that are completely, totally, overwhelmingly uninteresting to me - it still wouldn't bother me at all. Most likely I'm not representing your main viewer-base, albeit I do watch most of your videos, but I'm definitely from the encouragement camp (put up whatever you want), you can make me unsub only in one of 3 ways:
    1) Upload 100% of your videos on the topics that are completely uninteresting to me for quite a lengthy period of time. Don't think that's ever going to happen with your diversity.
    2) Spam uninteresting videos (something like 10+ a day). That would be one hell of a personality change on your side, so probably won't happen either.
    3) Do something that I would deem completely unacceptable. So far it doesn't seem like I'm ever going to click on that unsub button.
Also regarding the viewership itself, on my example - it's physically impossible for me to watch 100% of my subscription feed (and I like it that way), so I do have to choose what I watch based on the time I have, if I can watch or I'll be able to mainly listen, what part of my attention I can allocate, etc., so I do skip some videos even of a moderate interest (sometimes even in favor of those that are less interesting) or those that carry whole video in a title (when I can skip or don't need the details, e.g.:some news). Anyway, what I'm trying to write is that even if 100% of your subscribers would use subscription page and would not be dead (I mean not necessarily physically, but technically) - it still would not relate to the amount of views.

Yea, everything turns to shit once they become corporatized.

Check out Louise Rossman on RUclips, his channel is exactly what you aim for. He fixes phones but has many videos just talking with viewers about life in general, he's doing pretty good!

I know how you feel, I started RUclips and other social media, to relax, I am not expecting much from any of it, If it can make me some small change to support my hobby or creativity that would be great. Doing the same thing again and again would drain you no matter how much you enjoy it. We all need a break, we all need to experience something new, or see things in a new perspective.

Wait... You have thoughts on other things? Do share!
Melanin saturated? Why would that interfere with your thoughts on other things? Shouldn't the blood-brain barrier keep that out of your thoughts?
Wait, you're busy. You don't actually owe me your thoughts on other things. But I would love to hear. I love hearing thoughtful people's thoughts.

Just create another channel for the other stuff and maintain this one with its original subjects.
