2nd that thought Junior Ocicat, as it was really nice of people to do, and the video quality of the new orange one was very nice, and I'm sure the other one will provide us nice video too, and what a cool thing to know that your donated camera is what we are all getting to view videos from here through! Good job people!
Jeez what's with all the hate in the comments? This man decided to build something and record it for our entertainment. It's his project, we are viewers. Keep doing you mustie, love the content.
Build is coming along beautifully, Mustie. You’ve got the old prison-gate sound spot on! And congratulations on the reflectors idea. That’s the sort of thinking that can turn a liability into an asset.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think the Cushman would ever get this far. Awesome job Mustie! Can't wait for the cold start and mower videos in the warmer months! Keep up the good work, but don't overdo it my friend.
Great job Mustie..Like I stated before these Cushman's have been made into so many things over the years. People go check out the history of them ...Really interesting. Probably other old people such as myself can remember seeing them used as product trains pulling the four wheel carts behind them. At so many different places.
Thank you to Mustie and the viewers who have sent things in to support the channel. I love this channel. When I am in a better position I’ll try and contribute some how. Thank you! Don’t ever stop.
That's looking great! I've fought enough doors to know it really takes skill, (that I don't have), to do doors, hinges, latches and to get them all lined up and working, so well done Mustie! Looks like you have some great viewers too, very generous in their letters and gifts.
Watching Mustie push that pin out of the latch brought back a fond memory of one of my father's favorite sayings "Won't keep the thieves out but will keep honest people honest"
For a while I could not figure out why all the bars on it...now I get it...and the joke is better with the Dog Pound sign on it. You are quite the creative wrencher...
I was a bit doubtful about the hinge thing, but when you finally opened the gates up I let out a big " YES" My wife still thinks I'm watching my team play live on TV. but when I got the notification on my phone about the new vid I ditched the TV and tuned into your channel. As for the Horses head, I went to watch it again because a repeat of some of your stuff is better than most other stuff on here. Keep warm.
Great job Musti1 as always. It's funny how some viewers comment before the end and you come to the same conclusion on the reflectors. Love the channel 📐🔧😋
Love your videos , sorry some don't agree with what you do. It's your channel do what you want. I really enjoy the Tennessee Vacation video. You were in my neck of the woods in it.
Really like how you got all the hinges and lock put on and operational! Good idea for upper ones! Very nice work! As soon as you were trying to place the upper ones into a position, I was going to suggest you run wire through the tubing and tie them into the brake and flashing lights! Makes them higher and easily seen from tailgaters, especially at night. (Paint “back off” or something on them maybe). Good and kind people allow you to, as you said, now have a camera everywhere (hmm .... maybe too much - haha).
Odd hinge configuration, but hey it works! Enjoy watching the projects. Currently repairing/rebuilding an EZGO golf cart. :D Instead of reflectors on the top hinges what about a set of small LED backup/cargo lights? When the doors are swung back against the rails they could both shine into the bed for night loading with a switch.
I love this build! It is giving me the fizz to do something like this but in my own style (electric drive). Though I really miss your old style where you used to let us watch the stuff being done...kind of skipping that now. For those upper hinges...you could put a couple turn signals there...running the wires through the 1" square tubing.
With all those VW vans you have lying around, you already have some really good hinges for the back. They are engineered to do exactly what you are doing.
Looks great Darrin. You used magnets to hold the tailgates temporarily, but what if you used on on the non-locking side to help hold it at the top? That would eliminate a natural rattle that you will encounter over time.
Just re-watching this video again and I remembered what I forgot to mention trying for locking this on an earlier video to give you a chance to think about it, I’m sorry. I was thinking to try trailer hitch pin locks right through the one by ones that could be completely removed yet no one could tamper with them, basically because luckily dogs have no thumbs LOL… Oh well it came out beyond awesome anyway and I’m glad you got to do it your way! Always a pleasure to watch the way you think and fabricobble my friend.
I always love the way you fabricate with easy to find things. I'm not through with this section but I thought for sure you would place both the hinges on the angled part so the gates would open kinda "Gull wing" fashion. But the antenna connection sounds cool too. Keep being you.
I was going to say that looked like a seagull engine, never had any experience with them, but I have heard how good they were and were used in WW2, love watching your videos, keep them cumming!!!!
Great Job as always, that thing's gonna be a hoot come summertime. The Horsehead video was badass, I made a bunch of shelf brackets this winter, welding timing gears or connecting rods (Stuff from my horde lol) as the tie between the vertical and horizontal part of the bracket. I should put the content up soon. Anyway, I did it because you inspired me. Thanks fer takin' us along...
Hey Mustie, Your build looks great so far. I am loving the look along with the functionality. Sure the hinges are a little goofy looking but I am sure you are not finished yet. Love the fact that some people just can't wait to TELL you something is wrong, it makes me laugh. Keep coming with the vids and I love the creativity.
I really enjoy your videos. I think I would have made it hinge from where the first rebar is in from your hinges so it doesn't stick out. If that makes sense. But each to their own. Keep up the great work.
Excellent job Mustie1, If you are thinking it looks a bit odd with the hinges sticking out, you could always put a vertical 1x1 between the top hinge and the bottom and put a thin plate filler between. Then you could mount some red reflectors or hazard lights on the plate. Would look pretty authentic I reckon. Looks great though.
nice job lot more work than meets the eye but it is paying off looks right and sturdy I am doing the winter time motorized custom bikes thing you got me doing just snagged a nice little 2 stroke motor came off of a Remington snow blower think it is a keeper no fire i think i will clean the points it was a job getting that motor out of that snow blower seems like everyone is made different but i have scored some really nice bike motors on them keep up the good work I realley enjoy watching thanks
Shame you're stuck in an area with only a Home Depot. Here in Cleveland we have a place called Fastenall. Guess what they sell. I'd have done a single beefy hinge for the doors. Something heavy with a bearing and weight capacity where one would be enough. Nice video as usual -- you've consumed countess hours of my life messing with rust.
Plenty of positive and a few negative comments, I would have made the rear doors one piece and put the hinges on the top , to open up with gas struts to hold the gate up, but thats only my opinion, you are doing a great job I very much enjoy your work and running commentary. Looking forward to your next vlog.
Great job solving the hinge problem. This is going to be quite a rig. You might want to paint bars white, to continue the theme, also be easier to add patina. Keep up the great vids!
So I think I might have put the hinges on the angled bit of the frame and had the gates open so that they ended up flat to the angled uprights. Would mean that the bottom bit of the gates would stick out but that would be instead of the top hinges sticking out as currently. Just can't get past those top hinges. But hey; that's me . I am in awe of your fabrication, mate. Keep on keeping on.
The Mustimobile will need a dash cam mount too. Ready for crime fighting, all you need is a cape, mask, and kewl crime fighter underpants. Watch out for that bad girl mousewoman, she will get your cheese.
The outboard motor is a Scott Atwater. The gas tank is wrong, but it worked good enough to get somebody out fishin. I really liked the horse head. I watched it and wanted to comment on it but it wouldn't allow comments. So I refreshed the page and the video was gone. At least I got to see it before it disappeared .
Taking it a step further, you could even stretch a canvas over the cage to weather-proof it. All kinds of possibilities when your not "catching dogs" ! Looks great.
Wasn't sure where it was going initially but I think your option to go on the vertical works well and good. the hinges do protrude slightly, option 1, maybe weld some handcuffs to them for a sadistic angle, option 2, instead or reflectors go for lights..
Looks like a seagull, those go for lots of money in the UK. Was the first outboard I used as a kid. Really specific way to start them or they get flooded.
those top hinges be a ticket failure in uk due to fact they protrude and could take someones face off as you go past them. Looking good though and Tangobaldy Happy
Gull wing doors! Put both hinges on the angle into the cage. The doors swing up and are held up with a gate catch. The kind of catch where you swing the gate closed and the metal latch pops up, then slides back down to lock the gate open (or closed). Wild idea, but, how cool would that look?! I'm just brainstorming on someone else's project. Just a comment! Bravo on the build!
You could attach a reflector to the top hinge and it would sort of a cosmetic aid to the rather ungainly top hinge. But what a nice job. Not my thing but I appreciate the artwork of fabrication. Looks pretty good.
I think he did it right, who wants to worry about those gates slamming down on them while loading or unloading cargo...not me! Besides, with lights or reflectors on those ears it'll add to the police theme.
Build your hinges out of small round street pipe . Two on the door one on the bed with a pin . I build these all the time when making gates for trailers ..big or small .
Hey, that's a pretty nice "save" with putting reflectors on those upper hinges that were sticking out like the ears on Miley Cyrus. I might have just built One really super duty hinge that had a long stem with a "flap" welded to the bottom of the door, and inserted into a snug hollow rod that would rung the length of the whole corner on the outside, and somehow attached to the inner corner post. But you made a good save regardless, and it makes the corner safer too.
Thanks to those that donated cameras to the channel, from one of the many viewers.
Well Said .. as I live in the UK posting anything to Mustie would be really expensive ( and I can't be bothered with customs ETC )
aah thanks, that's a damn good idea
2nd that thought Junior Ocicat, as it was really nice of people to do, and the video quality of the new orange one was very nice, and I'm sure the other one will provide us nice video too, and what a cool thing to know that your donated camera is what we are all getting to view videos from here through! Jeez what's with all the hate in the comments? This man decided to build something and record it for our entertainment. It's his project, we are viewers. Keep doing you mustie, love the content.
I believe the miserable weather in the Northeast is affecting everyone's mood and disposition!
Everyones a critic these days.
Build is coming along beautifully, Mustie. You’ve got the old prison-gate sound spot on!
And congratulations on the reflectors idea. That’s the sort of thinking that can turn a liability into an asset.
New camera looks like it's working pretty good! Awesome support from your subs, and your work on the Cushman 'paddy wagon' is fantastic, thanks!
Your work is impeccable. I am truly am in aw as to your insight of your design and execution.
I almost cheered when you opened the doors. Your ability to visualize is unmatched!
Love the cage, takes the whole build to a new level. Those hinges will blend right in with reflectors on them.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think the Cushman would ever get this far. Awesome job Mustie! Can't wait for the cold start and mower videos in the warmer months! Keep up the good work, but don't overdo it my friend.
Looks great and I like the way you think outside the box. Please keep these videos coming.
Coming along good.....thanks for taking us along on your creative journey 🚎
Great job Mustie..Like I stated before these Cushman's have been made into so many things over the years. People go check out the history of them ...Really interesting. Probably other old people such as myself can remember seeing them used as product trains pulling the four wheel carts behind them. At so many different places.
Cushman looks great! The new camera is amazing! Thanks to the person who donate it.
Good to see the camera arrived, was a bit worried because Australia Post is notorious for losing stuff. Enjoy.
love it, thank you so much,
The S110 was more or less the best compact camera of its day, still an excellent feature-rich cam
Where you from Matt? Im in Maryborough Queensland Joe
Canberra.
Is cool to see there are others enjoying Mustie1 and his content in Australia.
Made my statement about reflectors before I finished watching! Love watching you work!
Your videos could never be to long, can't wait to see that little boat motor roar to life !
Idea on the hinges: mount some giant CB antennae and use the top hinges as a support. That thing would look rad with some big whips on the back.
The Cushman is coming along very nicely. Great work and thanks for sharing with us.
Watching Mustie push that pin out of the latch brought back a fond memory of one of my father's favorite sayings "Won't keep the thieves out but will keep honest people honest"
Ha!... I was going to say "add some reflectors" too, but I told myself to finish the video first. Thanks Mustie for all your videos.
For a while I could not figure out why all the bars on it...now I get it...and the joke is better with the Dog Pound sign on it.
You are quite the creative wrencher...
Good call with putting reflectors on the top hinges. Thanks for pisting.
Mustie you the man it is looking good,It is always nice to watch something built that is not what everyone else is doing or has done.
Some badass ideas Mustie. It's looking great. 👍👍
I love how this project is going, Mustie. Very cool indeed.
Ya Buddy, The Doors came out Great, cool mail and Keep them coming My friend. Cheers Dizzy.
chopper dude,
let me Know what you really Think Brother.
I am glad you have the vision . It's only when you have the items mounted do I say oh yes that's how it goes. Great videos thanks
Hey D - the outboard looks like a British Seagull - keep up the good work! Great job on those tricky hinges.
I was a bit doubtful about the hinge thing, but when you finally opened the gates up I let out a big " YES" My wife still thinks I'm watching my team play live on TV. but when I got the notification on my phone about the new vid I ditched the TV and tuned into your channel.

Great job Musti1 as always. It's funny how some viewers comment before the end and you come to the same conclusion on the reflectors. Love the channel 📐🔧😋
To all the ''suggestors'' here, it's HIS Cushman, if you want it different, go find your own damn Cushman. I think it looks amazing!
Love your videos , sorry some don't agree with what you do. It's your channel do what you want. I really enjoy the Tennessee Vacation video. You were in my neck of the woods in it.

Wow! That camera is a great gift! I have one of those also, but in black. It's a fantastic little camera!
mustie, you sir are an artist. thanks for posting this project.
Odd hinge configuration, but hey it works! Enjoy watching the projects. Currently repairing/rebuilding an EZGO golf cart. :D Instead of reflectors on the top hinges what about a set of small LED backup/cargo lights? I think your dog will enjoy riding around in the back next summer!
I love this build! It is giving me the fizz to do something like this but in my own style (electric drive).

I'm impressed!

Very nice again Mustie jail cell door hing fabrication, putting on some blue paint, Cushman meter maid 2.0 😲💥😲💥😲💥😲💥😲💥😲💥😲😲💥😲💥😲 !
Adding lights on the top of the gate hinges and rounding the bottoms will look awesome...
Looks great Darrin. You used magnets to hold the tailgates temporarily, but what if you used on on the non-locking side to help hold it at the top? That would eliminate a natural rattle that you will encounter over time.

mustie you might be able to hide the upper hinges a bit with taillights if they clear the bars , just a thought . love the builds , stay warm
mikebyrd my thoughts exactly
Keep the posts going Mustie1. You're always positive and patient. Surprised you are not a Teacher in shop class or metal working in a tech college.
Thank you for a fun project and educational material.
Love this video. You have a good eye and fabrication skills. Keep them coming
Careful welding those hinges they have bushings that melt out if they get to warm but awesome videos 👍🏻
Excellent job Mustie1, If you are thinking it looks a bit odd with the hinges sticking out, you could always put a vertical 1x1 between the top hinge and the bottom and put a thin plate filler between. I think he is doing a Awesome job. Thanks Mustie1 Smart Thinking on that lock system.

I'd have done a single beefy hinge for the doors. Something heavy with a bearing and weight capacity where one would be enough.

Progressing nicely - the out board looks like a small CC seagull rope start

Nice project... But I will try "bullet " style weldable hinge with grease fittings. Thanks for sharing the project.
Great job solving the hinge problem. This is going to be quite a rig. You might want to paint bars white, to continue the theme, also be easier to add patina. Keep up the great vids!
Thanks Mustie, great fabricating skills!
Looks great! Love the rebar.
I love it when a plan comes together...." The A Team" .....the new camera seems to be more clear...

Does anyone else look away when the welding starts out of instinct?
My dad worked for many years as a welder su yes I always look away when the welder is in use
The outboard motor is a Scott Atwater. The gas tank is wrong, but it worked good

Taking it a step further, you could even stretch a canvas over the cage to weather-proof it. All kinds of possibilities when your not "catching dogs" ! Looks great.
Wow, you’ve been busy. The other video got pulled just before I got to watch it.
Paddy wagon looking good.
Wasn't sure where it was going initially but I think your option to go on the vertical works well and good. the hinges do protrude slightly, option 1, maybe weld some handcuffs to them for a sadistic angle, option 2, instead or reflectors go for lights..
Cute. I could see a bunch of kids having fun in a parade!
Looks like a seagull, those go for lots of money in the UK. Was the first outboard I used as a kid. Really specific way to start them or they get flooded.
The hinges would make an excellent place for either brake lights or turn signals or both !
I like the cell door sound the door makes!
I thought you were going to enclose it! Looking good. I just hope those reflectors help with those hinges.
Love the crushm an project keep up the great work and videos
ON the top hinges,, would be great spot to put a couple lights would look great as well.
That is an old school boat motor. Wow. Would like to see that run.
those top hinges be a ticket failure in uk due to fact they protrude and could take someones face off as you go past them. Looking good though and Tangobaldy Happy
that was very nice of the guy who sent you the camera,, see we do have good people on you tube
Awesome, loving it. Thanks for sharing. Joe.
Gull wing doors! Put both hinges on the angle into the cage. The doors swing up and are held up with a gate catch. You could attach a reflector to the top hinge and it would sort of a cosmetic aid to the rather ungainly top hinge. But what a nice job. Not my thing but I appreciate the artwork of fabrication. Looks pretty good.
I personally would've put the hinges on the angled portion of the cage, hinged it so the gates open on an angle
Instead of creating a protrusion.
I agree
You took the words out of my mouth, a much neater and cleaner way of doing it. Or maybe doing a top hinged installation.
Or one big ”door” lifted staight up.
I think he did it right, who wants to worry about those gates slamming down on them while loading or unloading cargo...not me! Besides, with lights or reflectors on those ears it'll add to the police theme.
I concur, the reflector idea is pure genius.
Man congrats, Cushman is starting to look mint! 🍺🍺
Love your vids been watching the Cushman since the first video I love how far it's come
Nice job on the hinges. Better make sure the Mrs is happy or she will lock you inside.
Thank you to all who donated to help keep the channel going.
Looks Great! Don't let trolls influence you. I like the diversity of projects and creations you make.
You could mount Tail lights on the door hinges i think it would look good Love your videos keep up the good work
Canon S110 - Very High end compact camera! - Nice!
M1 Love the look ! Its your call but I hope you don't enclose it , love the vids and the new cam looks great !
On the protruding hinges you might want to stick on some reflectors or wire in some small lights (amber, maybe?). Hollow tube would make that "easy."
I'm thinking pound puppy is now? Cool trick with locating that top hinge and nice locking mechanism. Wonder what will be next?
