Id give anything to see them play this live. Sucks that Chris retired. He was definitely like Ward's little brother who made his own bones. A 3 piece powerhouse, just like Sabbath.
@@friendly_neighbourhood_grandmaMaybe you’ve just got bad hearing? It’s just as loud as the guitar is, although I do understand the audio quality is quite shit given that it’s most likely from a cheap video camera
The first Doom is arguably the first song off of Sabbath's first album. It was born when Iommi struck the tritone and, and Sabbs played super slow, up until the climax.
Led Zeppelin also did a lot of slow riffs with "Heartbreaker," "Black Dog," "Dazed and Confused," etc., but it seems to be generally believed that it has nothing to do with Doom's history.
+David Lo pan Pike was using Laney Pro Tubes/AOR´s back in the day. Al is using two Orange OR 120 Pics Only. Similar sounding to the later used Greem Matamps (wich are in fact rebuild Orange OR120s).
You got it...I am limited in my dvd to mp4 tech but will get the entire clip asap...there is more music by Sleep and another band performing..possibly The Melvins?...I'm not sure...but I'll work on getting all the clips tied together.
I have clips of another band from the same night and more of Sleep's set. I'll try to post them but transferring them has been a hassle. I'm very interested to know the venue and date so thanks for that!
Unfortunately I did not tape the interviews, etc. At the time I had no idea who Sleep was and this was just a very random recording. I have some more footage I will post soon but I don't believe it's the same show.
I see Matt is wearing his favourite shirt.
With 10 strong toes.
Legend has it he’s had it on since birth
Object : Do not cough out my lungs
Obstacule : An Into the Void cover by Sleep
My fav stoner metal band + My fav Sabbath song = (you understand what )
time to roll up?
That’s how I feel about Snowblind
Damn I wish they made an official recording of this song
Same! It would've easily blown all of the other covers away.
I keep hoping they'll secretl suddenly release a Black Sabbath covers album
there sort of is i thibk, isn’t this one of the tracks on sleep vol 2?
@@methuselahh_ That was Lord of this world....

@@friendly_neighbourhood_grandmaNot talking shit either just speculating because I hear it
Rickenbacker always play the Rickenbacker!
i think sweet leaf and into the void is the song that really influenced doom
rey niell really anything off master of reality and vol 4
Those first 4 sabbath records are some pure roots to metal itself.
Lord of This World too
Hand Of Doom, Lord Of This World, Under The Sun, Cornucopia, Electric Funeral, ... the list goes on
The first Doom is arguably the first song off of Sabbath's first album. It was born when Iommi struck the tritone and, and Sabbs played super slow, up until the climax.
Damn, this was dope. Really wished there was a better recording of it. I like this a lot. I had heard of Sleep but haven't really checked'em out.
Thank you for posting some of my favorite sleep footage ever.
fucking snare is massive
Never made the connection before but I bet the uptempo part of inside the sun is inspired by the uptempo part of into the void.
gyat damn !!!!!..............super dope cover .........................
Bud you got to get that sleep footage up
Transferring has been complicated but I'll work on getting it all up.

I want to see the old interview!!
Young Matt still no t shirt!
But who does SLEEP respect? Iommi of course.
Giza Butler
Iommi, geez, and Bill
Al with the orange amps, I wonder if he used both of his distortions back then, one through each amp like he does now but with orange amps?
Fucking best footage of sleep! Man i would have loved to see that interview tho hey man anyway you can get that back or no?
Awesome video, what a gem this is. I wonder what type of orange heads those are and what Pike is using?
I think Pike is using his Fender and Laney rig...not sure how they're hooked up but I thought that was what he used during this time.
The laney aor head most likely.
+David Lo pan The head behind Pike looks like a Hiwatt - Dr103 maybe. It's definitely not an AOR or a Marshall.
+OneThirdBird yea your right its a hiwatt for sure

Aaahhh! that's a bummer but totally understandable. So sick that you still captured the performance. I'll be on the lookout for some more sleep gems.
Absolutely man. I saw sleep in philly this past august... was one of the best shows I've seen period. Al ruled, totally was a show stealer for me
houseshoesbto i've seen sleep a few times and the Philly show was untoppable
Ryan Matticola Definitely. They were just on their A game and their set was absolutely perfect for me. Union Transfer was a perfect venue for them
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh
1992 volume 2
Beardless Al
This might actually be a good cover of this song, but it's hard to tell, cuz the sound quality is crap.
well when youre as loud as Sleep, most cameras at that time couldnt really handle it too well lol.
most overrated doom band ever
OH YES
