The whole point of covering a song is to let the artist play it how they feel it. It's not supposed to sound the same or even better. It's supposed to sound like Kyuss playing Into the Void.
I totally agree. I want to hear other bands make the songs their own. If I want to hear a clone of Sabbath, I'll just listen to Sabbath. Have you ever heard the Dr. Know Version.

I remember reading a Kyuss interview in the early 90s where they said they'd never heard Black Sabbath before. It was obvious they were fucking with the interviewer, but he still seemed a little confused by it. Too damn funny.
Kyuss did a great job adding extra heavyness, lenght and groove to this song. Moreover, they showcased what their major influence is, which is essentially, IMO, drawn from the exceptional album Master of Reality. They somehow translated the Sabbathian' early doom and sludge into a sound that belongs to the desert! It's all so incredible, I can't accept that Kyuss is so unknown and not given enough credit to.
MOR's debut album is one of the greatest albums of all time. No shock that Chris Goss is both the heart and soul of Master and produced three of Kyuss' four albums.
Speedwings Maybe but I don't feel it, Tool music is (in general) probably too much transcendental somehow (imo)...it's almost music for meditation. For Black Sabbath songs (covers) you need a more raw/direct sound....but again...just my opinion.
@@MLCrow look how they covered Led Zeppelin's No Quarter. They extended the song to 11 minutes from 7, and made a completely unique flow to it. I am totally sure they wouldn't mind something like that, and since they haven't really released any bad material at all, it probably wouldn't suck at all either
When people cover a song they need to play it the way they play, not the way the original artists play. Thats what Kyuss did. Look at hendrix, whenever he covers a song, he plays it hendrix style. This is probably the best cover of this song i've heard!
It's not about who did the better version. Black Sabbath is the most influential metal band in history, whose legacy if far beyond any other bands. That's just a fact. And into the void is one of Sabbaths best songs ever. Kyuss is not even close to Black Sabbath. Everybody with just a little common sense will know that. However - This tribute is played with respect to the original, and with just the right touch so everybody knows that this is Kyuss playing. Best Sabbath cover I ever heard
this is the heaviet riff ever written i dont care what anyone thinks... great cover.. i dare you to keep your head still listening to it, I DARRRRE YOUUUU!
If you ever played this song, all parts are friggin easy - guitar, bass, drums, but the vocals is one hell of a job to pull. And Kyuss deserves all the credits for that funny latino interpretation of the middle part, well done.
+lynchie137 That would be awesome but Josh did not leave Kyuss in a good way. Plus he sued them when they got back together and tried to use the name Kyuss Lives... so that might be kinda tough
Damn. One of the best covers. Ever. The arrangement on this is so different which makes this stand out! Never really listened to Kyuss before but I've gotta listen to Kyuss more now.
Lyrics: Rocket engines burning fuel so fast Up into the night sky they blast Through the universe the engines whine Could it be the end of man and time? Back on earth the flame of life burns low Everywhere is misery and woe Pollution kills the air, the land, the sea Man prepares to meet his destiny, yeah Rocket engines burning fuel so fast Up into the black sky so vast Burning metal through the atmosphere Earth remains in worry, hate and fear With the hateful battles raging on Rockets flying to the glowing sun Through the empires of eternal void Freedom from the final suicide Freedom fighters sent out to the sun Escape from brainwashed winds and pollution Leave the earth to all it's sin and hate Find another world where freedom waits, yeah Past the stars in fields of ancient void Through the shields of darkness where they find Love upon a land a world unknown Where the sons of freedom make their home Leave the earth to Satan and his slaves Leave them to their future in their graves Make a home where love is there to stay Peace and happiness in every day
@67goldtops this may not be his best bass-work, but Scott Reeder is one of the most underrated bassists of the 90's. Actually, ever. Listen to any song off of Welcome to Sky Valley and tell me he doesn't have insane groove.
I agree with other comments... you cant get better than the original.. on vinyl with all the clicks and hiss.. the ultimate heavy track.. i still love hearing other versions, it breaths life into these numbers again. Kyuss do a good job here.
Right on friend. I understand what youre saying...Yes, Sabbath is the greatest of all time. What I should have said was, " The best band since Ozzy left Sabbath covering the best Sabbath tune."
2:56 I'm hearing this for the first time and since the riff was already slowed way the fuck down I expected a heavy massive slow section cuz its kyuss but what I got was even better
Homme was just on Joe Rogan saying how he used to get pissed when people would mention Sabbath in comparison to Kyuss. Said he hated metal n never even listened to any Sabbath growing up. Then you hear this n wonder wtf was he ranting about on the Rogan podcast. This is the best cover of a Sabbath song ever
There are several old interview clips on RUclips here as well where he talks about Sabbath being music 'your dad listened to' or something along the lines. He sounds kind of pissy about it as well so I found it baffling to find this cover after seeing him deride them several times in interviews.
@@MM-bm5zx I've seen this before, I think he has always tried hard to craft his rock 'n' roll image, more so than any other artist in the genre in recent memory (most recent QotSA album is borderline parody of that imo). Kyuss is very similar to Sabbath in a sense they both have great rhythm sections. The bass & drums lock in and groove so hard.
yeah, the bass is quite similar to Black Sabbath in a lot of Kyuss songs.
Listen to this, then immediately Demon Cleaner. It's like chocolate in the peanut butter. Better together.

Kyuss and Tool should've released a straight cover album of Black Sabbath. That would be the acid trip to end all trips.

What a cover. The fact that there's debate over whether or not it's better than Sabbath is testament enough.
There's just something about that solo.. it's amazing. It's painfully clear that Homme is a guitar god.
Sometime I wish that Qotsa sounded more like this. This is a massively heavy rendition of a massively heavy Sabbath song.

Sorry
When the greatest band of all time covers the greatest song ever recorded, nothing can possiblly be wrong.

@@MrPhoenix6666 not necessarily. I think a lot of the elements from the original get lost in Monster Magnet's cover, but it's not necessarily bad.
3 best sabbath covers are as follows. Kyuss-into the void. Sleep-snowblind. Pantera-planet caravan/hole in the sky
Lyrics:
Rocket engines burning fuel so fast
Up into the night sky they blast
Through the universe the engines whine
Could it be the end of man and time?
Back on earth the flame of life burns low
Everywhere is misery and woe
Pollution kills the air, the land, the sea
Man prepares to meet his destiny, yeah
Rocket engines burning fuel so fast
Up into the black sky so vast
Burning metal through the atmosphere
Earth remains in worry, hate and fear
With the hateful battles raging on
Rockets flying to the glowing sun
Through the empires of eternal void
Freedom from the final suicide
Freedom fighters sent out to the sun
Escape from brainwashed winds and pollution
Leave the earth to all it's sin and hate
Find another world where freedom waits, yeah
Past the stars in fields of ancient void
Through the shields of darkness where they find
Love upon a land a world unknown
Where the sons of freedom make their home
Leave the earth to Satan and his slaves
Leave them to their future in their graves
Make a home where love is there to stay
Peace and happiness in every day
Those lyrics, plus the heaviest riffs ever written = perfection.

This is a GREAT cover!
the fact of the matter is, on the original track, we all learned that Iommi is untouchable. this song proves he's the riff master
I first heard of Kyuss off of this awesome metal compillation back around '93 called "Metalurgy" and liked what I heard. This group brings me back :)
This song make Kyuss sound so GOOD... its an testament to how GREAT Sabbath is.
Even covering this tune makes you sound cool.
Kyuss is cool as fuck without paying tribute to an obvious influence.
