@VincentL7 Exhorder's version, other than the vocals, is a carbon copy of the original, except with a pussified nu-metal sound. The tone is terrible. The guitar in this version actually has some balls, and it's super heavy. The original take on the middle section (the jungle jam) is awesome too.
Kyuss did a great job adding extra heavyness, lenght and groove to this song. Moreover, they showcased what their major influence is, which is essentially, IMO, drawn from the exceptional album Master of Reality. They somehow translated the Sabbathian' early doom and sludge into a sound that belongs to the desert! It's all so incredible, I can't accept that Kyuss is so unknown and not given enough credit to.

It's not about who did the better version. Black Sabbath is the most influential metal band in history, whose legacy if far beyond any other bands. That's just a fact. @NuclearGuru350 Exhorder doesn't have a "nu-metal" sound, what are you talking about! Exhorder is a trash metal band. This Kyuss band may have the sound of the 70s rock bands, but their leading guitar is not nearly as heavy as Exhorder's, NOT AT ALL! Just compare the riffs on this version and the one by Exhorder. Listen to the studio version of this song by Exhorder, and you'll find the tone is not that terrible.
@306ness Ah, speaking of fucked up break downs. Have you ever tested out Rotor ? They are the only kind of "progressive stoner rock" band I've encountered so far. Perfect consent for sophisticated true rock fans ^^ ... I bet you could make friends with them... ehm... a song tip... Rotor - Klar Schiff ... you'll find it here on youtube... and it's really fuckin... ehm... complicated... but still groovy as shit... have fun, nice conversation, m8 :) ...
@yovioleatuzorramadre - I wouldn't go as far as to say it OWNS Ben Shepherd. I've not heard all of "Circus", but what I've heard of it sounds as though Hernandez is thrashing around his kit in a slightly stoned frenzy. It's kind of out of control. That's cool - I just (slightly) prefer Cameron's very controlled precision and complexity. I'd agree, though, Brant Bjork is certainly better than Hernandez - I haven't thought to compare him to Cameron, so I'll hold judgment on that one for now!
@yovioleatuzorramadre - are you kidding? Cornell's voice, with its huge power and range, is much better than John Garcia's flat growl! Thayil is Homme's equal in skill (though obviously their styles differ), I can't really comment on the bass playing, but you should hear Soundgarden's Rusty Cage - its bassline is wicked. I would also opine that Cameron's precise drumming, with its complex meters, is rather better than the semi-organised chaos of Hernandez...
@306ness Ehm, actually this is me as long as it's no unexpressive, shredding with no soul ^^ ... And this is what it's all about, dude. Take colour haze for instance, they also incorporate massively extended, psychedelic solo play into their music. This is just part of the genre stoner rock. If that is missed, then seriously something is missed ^^ ...
Nearly as good as Panteras cover of Planet Caravan. Very few can cover sabbath and walk away with any dignity left. Nice. By the way the sabbath version is obsolete? Anything else is mere attempt. Some better than others (like this). There really is only ONE valid version of this song. This isnt it BUT a very valiant and pleasing effort nonetheless.
@HispanicImpression ya know what, you're right. i guess that's what takes the robot out of it. i just prefer fucked up breakdowns and strange maths and shit or just raw power to noodling around, but whatever, sometimes it's rad. to each his own, rock for the stoned.
@MEXICANOcomeCACA Geezer Butler was never a better Bass player, nor 1/2 as versatile a musician, nor 1/2 as accomplished a writer as JPJ. Further, Pino Palladino, Les Claypool, and Stu Hamm are the best living bassists on the planet. I'll even dust off Billy Sheehan and put him on that list.
@MakkalTK Of course you don't have to play "a lot of notes" to be a good guitarist. Hendrix and SRV could do more with one note than most did in their careers. Next point...Josh Home is NOT a good guitarist. His phrasing, vibrato, and attack are about as memorable as taking a piss.
decent, but I think the sabbath version is still better by a long way. nobody can out-sabbath sabbath. the riffs sound good, but the drumming here is vastly inferior to bill ward, and I'm not even referring to the silly conga part. and this song needs the creepy ozzy wail. period.

Rocket engines burning fuel so fast
Up into the night sky they blast
Through the universe the engines whine
Could it be the end of man and time?
Back on earth the flame of life burns low
Everywhere is misery and woe
Pollution kills the air, the land, the sea
Man prepares to meet his destiny, yeah
Rocket engines burning fuel so fast
Up into the black sky so vast
Burning metal through the atmosphere
Earth remains in worry, hate and fear
With the hateful battles raging on
Rockets flying to the glowing sun
Through the empires of eternal void
Freedom from the final suicide
Freedom fighters sent out to the sun
Escape from brainwashed winds and pollution
Leave the earth to all it's sin and hate
Find another world where freedom waits, yeah
Past the stars in fields of ancient void
Through the shields of darkness where they find
Love upon a land a world unknown
Where the sons of freedom make their home
Leave the earth to Satan and his slaves
Leave them to their future in their graves
Make a home where love is there to stay
Peace and happiness in every day
Those lyrics, plus the heaviest riffs ever written = perfection.

@NuclearGuru350 Exhorder doesn't have a "nu-metal" sound,
what are you talking about! Exhorder is a trash metal band. This
Kyuss band may have the sound of the 70s rock bands, but their
leading guitar is not nearly as heavy as Exhorder's, NOT AT ALL!
Just compare the riffs on this version and the one by Exhorder.
Listen to the studio version of this song by Exhorder, and you'll
find the tone is not that terrible.
@306ness
Ah, speaking of fucked up break downs.
@306ness
Ehm, actually this is me as long as it's no unexpressive, shredding with no soul ^^ ...
@MEXICANOcomeCACA
Geezer Butler was never a better Bass player, nor 1/2 as versatile a musician, nor 1/2 as accomplished a writer as JPJ. Further, Pino Palladino, Les Claypool, and Stu Hamm are the best living bassists on the planet. I'll even dust off Billy Sheehan and put him on that list.
@MakkalTK
Of course you don't have to play "a lot of notes" to be a good guitarist. Hendrix and SRV could do more with one note than most did in their careers. Next point...Josh Home is NOT a good guitarist. His phrasing, vibrato, and attack are about as memorable as taking a piss.
decent, but I think the sabbath version is still better by a long way. nobody can out-sabbath sabbath. the riffs sound good, but the drumming here is vastly inferior to bill ward, and I'm not even referring to the silly conga part. and this song needs the creepy ozzy wail. period.
Awww yeah!! K-k-k-kyuss doing a right decent take on this Sabbath gem. I believe I'm-a listen to SLEEP's version of Snowblind next...
