Just started the video but I have to say, before I forget, that that teal jacket you have on at the beginning is absolutely stunning on you. That is certainly your color ( and one of my personal favourites as well. 😍
Kristen you are beaming in this gorgeous teal jacket - it suits you so much! Also, great indie pattern suggestions for jackets here - I am really liking the Megan Nielsen one and the Pauline Alisa one. Big hug go you!
Yep - like Cheryl , I have just started the video but had to stop it to message you to say how wonderful you look! I'm sure its because you are recovering well but I have to say you suit that colour of the jacket sooo well! Definitely your colour Kristen- now I'll carry on watching the video :)
I picked up the Lisette jacket pattern. It has a very interesting design compared to a standard blazer. Can't wait to make it up. Also, you look beautiful in that turquoise jacket. That color makes you look so bright & glowing!
You have inspired me to try a jacket "make" for the first time and my choice was the Yanaka. Its sensational (although I did struggle with those peskie pivot points) and it has stretched my sewing skills for the better. I never would have tried sewing a jacket if it was not for your encouragement. Love your work and your comprehensive "roundups" are appreciated. Thank you for all you do for us. xx
Absolutely love that color on you Its a wonderful little blazer jacket Funny we are going into fall in Canada and I am going to cut out a coat So I was hoping this would help me decide what style of coat to make but oh dear I watched this and I kept oh yes that one then you mentioned another great idea So I really have to give this a little bit more thinking about Only conclusion is not cropped lol Thank you love your videos Glad you shared the jasmine lovely ! Happy sewing God bless you
I love the collection of jackets you've pulled together. I just made the reversible Molly jacket from Fibremood and it seems similar to one of the versions of the Hovea jacket you mentioned. You always inspire me to use boiled wool - your jackets are so lovely!! The Style Arc Alegra jacket has my eye now....
I have the Yanaka Jacket pattern. I bought some upholstery fabric from Spotty but it frayed terribly and I ended up chucking it. I still want to make it though I just need to find the right fabric. Still haven't got around to my Lyon jacket yet. I'm worried it's going to get too warm to wear in Sydney.
I’ve made the Yanaka from a heavy weight Denim, and know what you mean about freying, especially in those tricky neckline corners. They’re not bad enough to be too noticeable and I used a contrast colour binding on all the seams which was a worthwhile exercise. I’m keen to make another one, and I hope you’ll give it another try too. It’s a very comfortable wear. I’m also going to try a different approach to the ^ cutout at the back to try and get a crisper finish, with the help of a little hand sewing.
@@ShazahSews Hi Sharon I ended up not even being able to sew the brocade properly because it just fell apart. I'm thinking I might try a light chambray for summer or even a linen that will hold it's shape. I was really keen to try the Hong Kong seams. I bought some gorgeous bias binding for it.
@@annettedavis3833 I made a pink bias binding and used that same fabric on the interface of the collar. I sort of regret doing that now as it limits what I can wear it with, but I don't have the enthusiasm for pulling it apart and replacing with the denim 😁
@@ShazahSews the pink sounds lovely. Pink goes with everything in my opinion ;) Did you find the pattern complicated? It doesn't look it but I've been fooled before.
@@annettedavis3833 I really enjoyed making this pattern up. The neck and the back cutout are the trickiest parts. You need to clip the corners at the neck line, so don’t get too close to the stitching. That’s where my fabric started to fray. For the back cutout, I’m toying with the idea of finishing the edges of both the main jacket and the interface, just at the area of the cutout, turn and press the seam allowance inwards, and hand stitch the interfacing to the back. The instructions call for machine stitching and then turning right side out. Because of the bulky fabric, there’s no nice corners, which didn’t improve with a good steam. I intend to do a trial of my alternative method before cutting out my next Yanaka. Best of luck.
I love making jackets and my favourite at the moment is McCalls 8011 - I like my jackets fitted on the shoulders and I have adapted this by lengthening it and adding the pockets like the ones used on the Pauline Alice Tello jacket or the Closet Case Sienna jacket (which I loved too). I made a retro style coat from a Simplicity pattern and it was lined, but the instructions for the sleeve lining were not really adequate. PS. we're enjoying the fragrant jasmine in our backyard right now too and that shade of blue suits you so well :)
Almost all of these options would look great!! The one you are wearing is amazing and the color is perfect for you. I am looking forward to making a jacket that would be good for the 'in between' times when the seasons change. I have light linen jackets for summer and down coats for the Winter, but nothing really good for those 'in between' times. Which of these patterns do you think would be best for that need? Thanks so much and Take Good Care! OO
The fabric you choose will make the difference. I find that researching the fabric suggestions on the website/envelope of patterns you like to see if they can be made in a variety of fabrics and weights is the best place to start
A great selection there Kirsten 👌💝...thanks for all your work on that..much appreciated 🙏💝😁😘
You’re welcome 😊
Devine colour for the jacket. Fantastic blog as usual. Take care. 🌈🌷

The Itch to Stitch Causeway bomber jacket is incredible. I made mine from a vintage Pendleton wool skirt, such a satisfying make.
That sounds so gorgeous!

The pocket detail on the hovea is interesting...I'd like to adapt that to a fitted shoulder jacket. Love the kaia on you, style and colour.

Does anyone know what the differences are between the Hovea and Ayora jackets are?
Not sure, maybe the curved front is a little more accentuated or cropped on the Ayora? Both lovely patterns though!

Jackets are shorter than coats
