Nope, Actually "a" is Not silent...Bt it's added if Convert any Indian word into English...like "Ram", "Buddh","Yog", etc. become Rama, Buddha, Yoga in English Bt that's not the correct pronunciation if have to say those words in India.
Many languages like Korean, Chìnese, etc. Words spelling & pronouciation changed when speak or use it in English...but if one have to learn actual korean, chínese,etc. Words with correct accent & exact pronouciation which used by their ppl in the country Then have to learn correct way of speaking it like it's "Bharat" as We use, write & Pronounce in hindi Not "Bharata"!!!

The literal spell will suffix 'a' for most of the hindi words. Whereas the actual pronunciation will be different. Karma being the major example, is actually pronounced Karm in hindi. Bharat will spell as Bharata in english alphabets

People add "A" after Indian words to make them easier to pronounce (Especially in Western countries), eg :
Yog -- Yoga
Bharat -- Bharata
Karm -- Karma

("Yo-guh") as an adjective and
("Yogam") as a noun.
"Yo-gaa" (as it is popularly used) was manufactured by and manufactured for the Western cultures.
