  • The Harley Low Rider S and Fat Bob are two Softails that share very little as far as similarities and today I'll cover all the differences and which bike I like the best.

I've had a fatbob 114 and now own a '23 LRS 117. Hands down all around superior machine. Handling, looks, power. What a modern classic HD Superglide should be. Very, very happy.

I bought a 2018 Fatbob 114 in the Red Iron Denim (best color ever imo) and I absolutely love it. I have been on many long trips with it and it is super comfortable for a day in the saddle (pro tip: if you are on a long stretch without the need to have your feet on the controls you can lean forward and put your feet on the back pegs to give your butt a break). Why did I pick it? One look at the front of that thing. Kinda looks like a badass post-apocalyptic bike that you could see Norman Reedus riding with his crossbow in TWD. Also I love the width of the front tire... i used to have a Kawi Vulcan 900 and it had the stupid skinny front tire that would get pulled into every crack on the road.

I chose the 2022 Fat Bob over the 2022 Low Rider S back in November 2022. The reason was because of the forward controls on the Fat Bob. My first choice was the Low Rider S. Too add forward controls on the Low Rider, was a 7 month back log on the order. I am 6ft2 and mid controls don’t work for me.

I took both bikes for a test ride last rear. I agree with you in many ways. I thought the fatbob was really comfortable to ride. The positioning and ergonomics felt natural. The aesthetics will be a hit or miss with some. I didn't care much for the look myself, but when I saw it in person, it actually looked good.
I still think the lowrider s looks better, but I just didn't like how it felt riding.
I agree, stock vs stock the fatbob wins, but if you're planning to change things, then the lowrider might be the way to go.

I help run demo days for the local Harley store when the national truck shows up. The Low Rider pegs are mounted too high, I like the LR Bars more. But I always found myself on the Fat Bob. You should compare it to the 2018+ Softail Slim. I am thinking about getting one of those and put Low Rider Bars on it. You get all of the good parts with floor boards.

Current ride is a Street Glide Special but I test drove the Fat Bob and I absolutely loved it. The Heritage Classic is another often overlooked but awesome bike. I haven't ridden the Low Rider S yet but I hear a lot of mixed views about it.

When I bought my Fat bob, it was my choice between it or the FXDLS. I wanted the low rider until i test rode it. It rode amazing, but I needed forward controls, it didn't come with passenger seat/pegs stock, and the used Dyna was the same cost a new Softail. I have no regets with the Fat Bob. Its fun to rip up on the mountains, or throw the ole lady and bag on the back and go on a weeklong trip.

I bought a new Fat Bob 114 just before they quit making them. Added Vance and Hines slip-ons and a rear rack with short backrest. Love the look, the grunt, and the sound. Love the handling for a big bike. People keep asking, even other Harley riders, "What IS that thing?"

  • @bikerpreacheruk
    @bikerpreacheruk 7 месяцев назад +1

Chose the Fat Bob as a second bike, wanted something with grunt, mean looks and fwd controls as standard to prevent spending a few hundred on additional kits. Have a Glide Screaming Eagle for my long distance bike and for pillion use, so just wanted something fun to replace the sportster. After riding the Fat Bob for a while...it's an awesome bike. Only thing I'd change almost immediately on the Fat Bob, was the mirror location as if you have big hands, you will sometimes knock your mirrors if they are stock, but its an easy change to sling the mirrors under the bars rather than but new mirros in the short term.

I have a Sportster S and I'm loving it. Added mid controls, windshield, engine bars, comfort seat, heated grips, lithium battery and a kemimoto luggage rack to it. I would love to have a second bike and split among the lowrider S and the Fat Bob. Thankfully I don't have enough money to buy one yet, so will keep thinking about it in the next 18 months haha.
A memphis shades Road warrior fairing is a must on both imo

Have a '23 black LRS with TBR Turnout exhaust. One of the best looking bikes currently offered. Closest new bike in looks to my '79 black FXEF. Not into fat tire bikes. Power, handling and excellent sound. S&S cam next up for a super badass idle. Can't wait.

I went with the Fat Bob on the small geometry changes that would lend towards slightly more aggressive handling. The factory chunky Dunlop are absolute trash. Softer compound tires completely change handling characteristics for the better. The Low Rider's mid controls were a deal breaker for me, but it will always be a classic.

I don’t care for small bikes, I’d definitely get the Fat Boy, low rider is just not my type of Harley. Bought one traded in 3 months later for a bigger bike, good bike just not for me. Doesn’t feel as planted as the Fat boy was more upset with bumps, uneven pavement, crack in the road or pot holes. A lighter bike is more fragile to road conditions. More of a Bagger Bro lol. But I love the Fatboy ever since terminator 2 lol.

  • @infini1970

I would go with the low rider mostly due to the larger 5 gallon tank. The Fat Bob has a 3.5 I think. So the low rider is better all around for a more light weight touring bike for me. I have a street glide that's great but I don't tour much at all anymore. I do mountain rides and twisties. I feel like it's so much work to even keep up with guys that are more experienced than me. I don't enjoy that ride for that kind of riding. I think both would be great for twisties but the low rider for sure for longer rides.

Fat Bob, 2019, Bassani exhaust, crash bars, heated grips, cruise control. Couldn’t get on with the seating position of the low rider. Tried a Sport Glide but prefer the 114 engine (though my Fat Bob test ride was a 131). Previous ride was an Ultra Ltd. Would love some recommendations for an alternative seat, but stock is OK.

Look into a whiplash gambler seat. I didn't mind the stock seat, but it felt like it pushed you up into the tank. I got a gambler with their their tall guy modification. It set me back a few inches, more comfort for me, and a larger pillion for the ole lady's comfort.
