I restore boats as a hobby and I'm here to tell you, You accomplished a lot in six weeks. That's unbelievable and it looks like you did a quality job. Great job
From what everyone keeps telling me, it's impossible to make back the money you put into a boat, is this really true? At some point there must be some level price that makes a boat worth restoring if you can do it all yourself. Everyone keeps telling me that I'll spend more to refot a boat than to just get newer one, so if you have any insight to that I would love to hear it.
Definitely not easy to do. Our 47ft boat is timber we couldn't get pulled out with straps so drove further to get on the slip 😊 great work guys ❤ new subscribers from South East Queensland
@@givenfool6169make sure you have a good look at the boat underneath, whether the bilge pump keeps going off that means there's a leak somewhere. Our mates bought one for 300k it was mint and also had a mate buy one for $1 and do it up, sadly after a few months it sank. It's easier if you take a boat mate or someone that has a little idea 😊 we didn't pay much for ours but it was nearly sinking, hubby looked over it and knew he could have a go at restoring our boat. 6years later we still have her floating. It's only 47ft and we didn't want to pay marina fees so we built our own swing mooring, which was fun 😅 boat life is the best life❤
@@givenfool6169 Like anything. When you're paying someone do to the job. The biggest expense is labor. When you're doing it yourself, all you have to do is shop for parts.
So inspirational. For so many the "this old boat" way is the only way, but it opens the doors to anyone not afraid of hard work and learning something new every day.
In my 55 years (30+ as a Paramedic Fireman) I have done some serious work, but I am in AAAWWWE of you two!!!! LOVE this, enjoy every minute you are on the ocean chillin!!! May you be blessed with Fair winds and following seas
He’s a badass! He said in the beginning he would get it done in 20 minutes or so and HE DID! Gangsta style. Awesome transformation. Congratulations; you should be very proud. Transition is amazing. Of course we all recognize your team ( partner) effort.
Great work guys, I am a shipwright and for 40 odd years have watched people tinker with boats and dream of cruising. You guys are living their dreams. The boat looks fantastic, get back to sailing and let the sea wash the dust from your pores All the best.
The teamwork y’all have between you is truly amazing! My wife and I have been married 33 years and there is no way we could have tackled a six week project together, especially one of this magnitude. Heck, we can’t even make dinner together without arguing....lol. Seriously, congrats on a job well done. Your boat looks amazing and you should be very proud of it. Now go enjoy it on the high seas (and don’t forget to make us some more fun videos to watch).
Great job, I am also currently restoring a 23ft sailing boat that had been neglected for 8 years, I got it for free. It is rewarding to see the transformation.
I have been watching for over a year. This is the icing on the cake. My wife and I worked side by side for the last 25 years on various jobs. 17 years of that driving truck together. I know what it is like to have a significant other with you in the lows and highs of a journey. You two made your boat into a beautiful house on water. take time and relax and enjoy your hard earned treasure. Best wishes to the both of you.
Patrick here.. really amazing of all that hard work being done together.. what a bond and memories you are creating. I wish you both all the happiness in the world and when the time is absolutely right and you decide to have babies Matt is going to be a great gangster dad and Kristen will add the right amount of fineness. I only know you through this medium but I have been dreaming of being on the water with my family and chilling with you guys, .. happy sailing ⛵. Love always.
You guys really did a bang up job on that old boat. She really looks beautiful. I love following your Vlog. I’m a disabled retired old USAF jet mechanic and USN Aviation Machinist Mate and Patrol Plane P-3 Flight Engineer. I wish I could be out there adventuring over the high seas again but I’ll do it vicariously by watching your videos. Thanks, God Bless, and be safe out there. I’ll be with you in my heart just as I am with Bobby and Sailing Doodles.
This Puertorrican expression picking on your cheek means "looking good" and we used it when we like something very much. You guys did an awesome work. Congratulations! so as I say picking on my cheek "chuchin"!
I totally agree. That first full rebuild in a boat yard is even more transformative for you then it is the vessel. It changed my life and how I look at things for sure.
You are right, the “cheek gesture” means “bien bonito” that translate to pretty. Nice hard work with an awesome reward!!! Now enjoy the results from it, blessings.
I'm an old retired sailor and when I think of all the work you guys did, I need to lay down and rest. I can't imagine how exhausted you folks were at the end of each day. The boat looks beautiful and you're an inspiration to us old sailors.
Ok you two ! Don't be blowing smoke in my sail !! You really went out and purchased a new boat !! Hahaha just kidding my brother and little sister !! Wow unbelievable she's just beautiful !! We watched every episode of the transformation. Watching this time lapse is amazing. All of your hard work captured in 20 minutes. Great work ethic with a great result. Congratulations!
Hi guys. It's Rick up in Canada. I've been following you on your adventures for quite a while now and enjoyed every episode, sometimes more than once! But I have to say these last few weeks in the boatyard have been some of the most informative. Both about the work you had to do to get the boat refinished, and the insight it gave us into you as a couple. I can't help but think, that a couple that could go into a project like this, (basically learning a lot of what had to be done as the work progressed), and come out the other end of a six week endeavour of this magnitude, closer to each other, and still smiling, has to be destined for greatness at some point in the future!! I just know you will be heading out on bigger adventures and i'll be following everything you post! You're a great example of how a couple can work together as a team, and just what can be accomplished. Good luck, and smooth sailing from here on in!!
I know what you mean about forever changed after the boatyard experience. There is something life changing when restoring a boat, an incredible sense of accomplishment along with knowing you have given something a new life and in your case it’s even a home home Reno!
Watching you both for a few years has been fantastic. The boats improvements and over all look have been justifiably well documented in the comments! The growth and continued prosperity of your "family unit" has made the trip rewarding for you all and your viewers. Thanks for sharing so much with your viewers. Tim
Out-friggin-standing! I almost bought a 37c last month, but they discovered high moisture levels on deck during survey. The shower was my favorite part of the boat. You've come a long way from bailing wire farm fixes. Congratulations on a well earned beautiful boat.
As I watched through this, I was thinking you were not in the water yet just teasing me. Looks like you are in the water and enjoying the awesome life you so greatly deserve, after all that super hard work and heart ache of last week. Now, on to engine repair lol (that should be interesting.) Wishing you two a wonderful week. God bless.
The Beatles said "...with a little love we can make it out.." So you guys put a lot of love and enthusiasm in your team work, and the final outcome is amazing! It does not have to be a million dollar boat, to make you happy and proud. Enjoy you new vessel, and keep up your story, because we love you, and follow every step you take!!!
Y’all are a hell of a team! Sailing GBU has truly been transformed, amazing! She looks beautiful in the water and will turn heads as you enter new harbors. Well done guys, we’ll done.
After following all the episodes of the transformation, this one truly shows how all your efforts have the GBU shining brighter, and I’m sure the pride and moral aboard the GBU is soaring as well! Best wishes with continued success in your GBU journey, a summary on the final budget of the 6 weeks transformation would be a great video and insight for all.
I literally began to cry at 16:10 in. Wow!!! I've been watching all your later videos and now I see how much love and attention you gave to this sweetheart of a boat!!
Through this time lapse everyone gets to see just how much love, dedication, work and just a portion of the blood, sweat and tears that went into this refit. It is truly astonishing and something you both should feel immense pride in for the rest of your lives. At points especially when you were removing the years and paint and gunk on some of the wood work I was stunned at just how beautiful it was and how it had been hiding in plain sight for all these years so to speak. Just amazing and an inspiration for anyone debating doing the same and putting this much effort into saving an old boat. At the end of the day I have to say that your efforts have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that yes it is worth it as long as you find the right bones/boat to start with. Again just an amazing job flaws, that only you see, and all. My hat is truly off to you both. Fair Winds, Safe Travels and God Bless...
OMG that is a lot of work. I’ve owned boats my whole life and just the work it takes to maintain, repair upgrade and add things is a lot. To do this is something very few people could accomplish in my opinion. Congratulations on doing such a fine project.
Gone from ugly duckling to swan in 20 mins, you've done an incredible job in a short space of time, now's the time to be proud of your work and enjoy it.
Matt and Tristin are an inspiring, amazing couple who stick together through life's thick and thins with a warm, real, courageous sense of humor. Just really good people.

We have growing satisfaction after completing a boat project. Learning how the vessel was engineered builds confidence too I believe. Thank you for detailing the process. Rich from Fernandina Beach, Florida.
First off I love you guys. Your boat has transformed from looking like its scruffy Captain to looking like the pretty curves of its first mate. Congradulations on a wonderful transformation.🤔😎😘
I watched most of the videos from the beginning and what really impressed me was your willingness to reach out for help when needed and that plus your hard work gained the respect of the yard workers. They know genuine when they see it that and your unwillingness to compromise on your vision. Congratulations and Well Done.
Great job, young lady! On any project, from my construction experience, there's Always one guy talking, while the others are working. No criticism about your combined efforts nor the quality transformation, but Matt, you owe her one!
My wife and I just loved getting this view of the transformation you guys made happen. Was in our commentary how much you both really put your elbow grease into the project. Chuckling at the one short bit with Matt watching you work. :P Seriously great work to be proud of and enjoyed...and you still have your gritty sailor cards. Really enjoying your adventure.
WOW! You two have really worked so hard over the past few weeks, it has been amazing watching the episodes with your up's and downs. But you have both have learnt from the experience. Also knowing when to step back and let the experts do their bit. Well Done! You deserve a holiday after the last few weeks. Relax and Enjoy. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Last Saturday we went by the Isleta to see if we could say hello. Got to see the sailboat she looks amazing in person. We figured you guys were not there since the tender was not around. The boat looks great we continue to follow you in RUclips. Hoping only the best for both of you. Regards Cristina/Ignacio/Paulina.
Yes! Matt that does mean "muy lindo" ...you guys did amazing and I am so happy I was able to watch it from the beginning...never doubted you and Kristen! Now Kristen can enjoy the beauty of it, as much as you...Muchas bendiciones! blessings!!! from your Puerto Rican clan. =)
What really struck me was the occasional comment of "well, the boat yard is closed today for the weekend, so I have this loaner disk sander, so I'm gonna sand for 8 or 10 hours." You two worked your bums off, and the boat looks fantastic. Watch out for the tropical cyclones, and sail safe.
Being back on the water is probably going to feel like time off after that transformation. It definitely looks so much nicer and they found many things to take care of.
Only 6 weeks all while filming content and dealing with having to make trips back and forth for supplies and working within limited designated hours, That’s FANTASTIC effort and great job!
yes - all those different steps, the coatings, the power wash, the sandings, the various primers and paints...maybe a video explaining what all that was??? Even sell a book or something. Tremendous work and effort, and breathtaking results. Sincere congratulations.
Just binge watched all your episodes of the amazing transformation of your boat. In one of the videos Kristen said something about getting sick of watching, but who could ever get sick of watching her in a bikini? Gorgeous girl and so fun to watch her. I look forward to watching your future adventures. Great job, guys!
Well done guys. Now you have real pride in the boat cause you done yourself and well done. Looking to your adventuresome as much as you are. AND YOU KNOW THE BOAT that makes things safer too.
Grüße aus Stuttgart, tolles Team mit großer Lebensfreude. Es hat mir viel Freude gemacht euch zuzusehen. Wünsche euch Immer eine Handbreit Wasser unter dem Kiel.
Straight up, this has gotta be a labor of love! All the work you put into this woulda drove most people up a tree. You did the job right though. I'm prior U.S. Navy of 7 years with saltwater in my veins, so I can appreciate what you are doing.
“That was a lot of work”? That’s an understatement. I’ve done my fair share of bottom clean up, new anti fouling and new gel coat prep. It’s absolutely gruelling and back breaking too boot. Good for you guys. Honestly, 6 weeks is frickin’ impressive.
Felices mil días trabajando para dar vida a tan lindo barco, felicitaciones por no haberse rendido, me da mucha alegría que estén por flotar muy pronto.!!!!!
I just love watching you, Alan, and your care of the Hillbilly! When you said they got her in the water earlier than they said... I thought, well, that doesn't happen in the Caribbean! Man, that "island time" is a real thing! We also have what we call here on Lookout Mountain, "mountain time." It and "island time" are one in the same! 😂
Guys what a transformation the boat took , awesome job guys , from an old pirates ship lol to a million dollar cruise club boat almost lol , loads of work but you both did an amazing job , you both should be very proud , it looks very classy. 👍
I binge watched all your videos the last two months from your first to the last video. You 2 are inspirational and kudos on showing your adventures. I myself a Pirate in the making. From 1 sea dog to another; Happy sailing and hopefully our paths will cross. Remember Sailboat Tangent. ⛵️
I bet now the pair of you will feel even more in tune with your boat now that you fully know every inch of it through the hard work that you have put in. Great result. Now for the motor and or gear box lol. Safe sailing guys 🥂😃
I started to see it for the transformation but then the pretty hard working girl kept me watching. She's a keeper, the boat and girl, lol. Great work guys!

Seriously great work to be proud of and enjoyed...and you still have your gritty sailor cards. Really enjoying your adventure.
I'm extremely impressed that you were able to accomplish all of that for $5k! A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into that! :)
WOW WOW WOW,GREAT JOB GUYS,THE PAINT CREW DID A BRILLIANT JOB,ALL THE BEST FROM MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA
YAY! I'm early for a change! :) I still can't believe how awesome the transformation is!!!

It means awesome, personally I feel your 6 week timeframe was outstanding for the quality results you both put in. Happiness and safety out there 👍🗽🇺🇲
Last Saturday we went by the Isleta to see if we could say hello. Got to see the sailboat she looks amazing in person. We figured you guys were not there since the tender was not around. The boat looks great we continue to follow you in RUclips. Hoping only the best for both of you.
Regards
Cristina/Ignacio/Paulina.
muy lindo yes and could also add wonderful,,fabulous,,, extravagant ,, excellent
all at once
What really struck me was the occasional comment of "well, the boat yard is closed today for the weekend, so I have this loaner disk sander, so I'm gonna sand for 8 or 10 hours." You two worked your bums off, and the boat looks fantastic. Watch out for the tropical cyclones, and sail safe.
You two are amazing! You always make us laugh! We hope to see you when WE get our boat!
You guys worked your butts off👍👍 awesome job
I Really hope you’re having a week off after this mate,, you deserve it
No doubt about that that was a lot of work but the results very nice!!!
Being back on the water is probably going to feel like time off after that transformation. It definitely looks so much nicer and they found many things to take care of.
You just added 25k of value on this boat, with 6 weeks of work + materials. Well done!
Very beautiful 😍👍
Only 6 weeks all while filming content and dealing with having to make trips back and forth for supplies and working within limited designated hours, That’s FANTASTIC effort and great job!
That was amazing.. Congrats on a beautifully finished job..
You guys are BADASS !!!! Great job on the boat
A refit is where you take all of your money and hard work and throw it in the ocean.
Hehe I see what u did there.
BOAT. Bring Out Another Thousand.

yes - all those different steps, the coatings, the power wash, the sandings, the various primers and paints...maybe a video explaining what all that was??? Even sell a book or something. Tremendous work and effort, and breathtaking results. Sincere congratulations.
Next Matt is an electric motor installed. Would be perfect for you two.
@About Creativity Tesla battery 100kw battery bank 4 kw of solar and electric motors would be cool
Ma non dire cazzste
Just binge watched all your episodes of the amazing transformation of your boat. In one of the videos Kristen said something about getting sick of watching, but who could ever get sick of watching her in a bikini? Gorgeous girl and so fun to watch her. I look forward to watching your future adventures. Great job, guys!
Well done guys. Now you have real pride in the boat cause you done yourself and well done. Looking to your adventuresome as much as you are. AND YOU KNOW THE BOAT that makes things safer too.
Well, that old boat looks beautiful now, just like the two people who live on her👍, excellent transformation.🤗🤗🤗 lots of love👍
Really Beautiful job. Seeing the reflection in the hull put me over the top. Be proud of her.
It's such a tribute to your hard work and strong relationship. Thanks for letting us watch you grow.
Every minute of boat restoration is tough work. Great job, amazing finish on your vessel.
Can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed your yacht videos guys , amazing effort , so therapeutic to watch 😊❤ god bless you both xx
You NEED to be proud of this. Dang, what a beauty! So much hard work, you deserve all the accolades.
I bet now the pair of you will feel even more in tune with your boat now that you fully know every inch of it through the hard work that you have put in. Great result. Now for the motor and or gear box lol. Safe sailing guys 🥂😃
Great vlog, really enjoyed it, as did 99.9 per cent of viewers...... 👌👍🐟🇫🇷 The thumbs down are jealous.. 😒
Great job in 6 weeks! You‘ve earned all the great adventures you are having.
I started to see it for the transformation but then the pretty hard working girl kept me watching. She's a keeper, the boat and girl, lol. Great work guys!
