Why wasn't he found inside the dismantled boxes she was putting up? Also, Theo, when she called to him, seemed to have made whimpering sounds. I think this is such a masterpiece (atleast in my opinion) because the whole thing could have had a rational explanation, it even gave a possible explanation of the dog going through the window. It is the fact that it was so realistic that made it so eerie and horrifying. maybe it was because it never broke the immersion. It relied on the ever encroaching feeling of dread rather than the cheap scares, which just makes you all the more paranoid.
I like how this short film actually builds up the suspense instead of throwing us into it. Makes that feeling of something being off so much more powerful. Helps me connect with the characters too
Not bad. Its funny how they make you believe there's something sinister, that's going to pop out, any second. Fear of the unknown, is the scary part. So glad that pretty doggie was ok. Just a little shakin.

Handgun Safe Research - It maybe Cool too you😃 But far from a Horror film. Although, it was a good effort, I would say it was more of a Mystery. It had elements of suspense, and wonder, but certainly no frightening scenes, by any stretch of the imagination. An interesting watch regardless.

I feel like I could watch this with my 5yo daughter and she would not be scared at all. I think what's scary in this is the anticipation we have, because there's actually nothing unusual going on, except for the cellphone, the mystery of the teleporting dog and a finger sliding through the sheet, which she probably wouldn't get anyway.
I have rewatched this short many, many times because I enjoyed it so much! I LOVE how you ended this short compared to how the short story ended - it was so very effective! The cinematography, acting, music, and dialogue were all fantastic. These actors are so believable - from their expressions, to their clothes, to their mannerisms. This kind of vague horror (you never clearly see any demon or another universe, but you definitely see evidence of the existence of both) is always my favorite because it is so effective - it is all so normal and so mundane and yet....jolting. To me, it sends the message that all true horror media sends: "This too can happen to you."
This is a perfect example of why H.P. Lovecraft stories still read perfect 100 years later. Those writings rely on conjuring the horror in your mind. Once it's presented in a concrete visual, it usually never works as well - there are a few exceptions like the short "Other Side of the Box" which goes with this one quite well. Also "Bedfellows" and "Do You See It Too".
Using cardboard forts for a horror film is cool, the tension of small spaces along with stranger invading the home. Glad it didn’t show the things, keep us in the dark

This comment section is full of dog lovers. But for me the environment was way creepy than I expected. It started with soft laughter of girls and then the sounds effects were ON, baby. I really freaked out. Can we have part 2 to this???
I saw the thumbnail for this video and wondered: what's so scary about a cardboard box fort? I used to make things out of cardboard all the time as a kid... but as I kept thinking about it, I looked up the concept and chanced upon an online viewing of the movie "Dave Made a Maze" before watching this short film properly. There's just so much potential in the concept, and now I am wondering why it wasn't considered for horror sooner. After all, everywhere I made cardboard crafts, whoever was in charge of the daycare I was in always insisted the activity should either be done outside or kept in just one room of the building. My whole life, I assumed that was because my elders just didn't want us kids making a mess, but maybe there's more to it then just that. Maybe, just maybe, there's a superstitious, supernatural reason behind it too.
Love how you never expose what it was terrorizing them. Makes the horror more unique forcing us to use our imagination on what it was in the fort and home, must have been pretty scary to scare the dog away. Plus you didn't have the dog killed so extra points there.
Ive watched so many of these youtube short horror films and can say with great pleasure this one was great. So clever. Did so much with so little. Genuinely creepy
Oh man, this is like something out of Channel Zero (creepypasta adaption horror TV show). If only they hadn't cancelled that series and the showrunners saw THIS short film. Imagine the possibilities!
The entire time she was in the fort I kept averting my eyes and just barely looking because it was freaking me out so badly. Just that feeling of "SOMETHING'S GOING TO BE THERE" even though nothing showed up ugh I couldn't handle that
That was pretty good and scary! Some things defy explanation. The shots "sans" exterior lights are very striking. Odd that the sisters did not discuss the odd thing going on. Lost in the "Box Fort" was nerve wreckin' and caused anxiety. It was that feeling of being in a narrow tunnel or a coffin. Nicely done!
Omg it was the box troll's.😅 Really scary to even think that someone could come and go through a window and no one even thought about it. And why in the mind of a contractor would there be a freaking window in a closet.
THIS IS ABSOULUTELY AMAZING. the fact that it builds tension throughout the whole things and doesn't release it at the end keeps you covering your eyes. 10/10, scary as hell.
The fact that you guys used my biggest fear, which is being ran up on in the dark, made me turn every light on in the house…guess I won’t be going to the restroom at night anymore or ever making box forts again😭
The energy and imagination they used has created a sort of another dimension. Was rly worried the dog wouldn't be found after the fort was folded. Really leaves room for the audience to guess what else was in there with the lost doggo.
You should totally see another short horror movie about cardboard box! Its called ,,the other side of the box”. Its amazing and i really recommend it :)
A masterpiece, I was feeling so anxious the whole time. The suspense and anticipation were superb, the ending is great, subverting all kinds of predictable expectations.
This should be a feature film. This was unbelievable. Great story, great acting and intense scenes. And it’s something that could work as a full film. It’s why I love short horrors. They’re always incredible stories
The happy intro part was super close to life. Acting with pets the same way, not overly happy just some friends returning to childhood. The dog is so cute btw.
i love the way the box structures are used as a framing device, and that the fort seems to take over the house as the only way between rooms, adding to a sense of claustrophobia. also cool how some of the walls of the house are practically the same colour as the cardboard. great use of lighting/sound and atmosphere-anyone who gets freaked out by those scenes in horror/sci-fi/thrillers when characters are crawling through ducts will be gasping for breath! i watched "Dave made a Maze" a few months back so if anyone wants to see cardboard box forts taken to the extreme length, check that out!
I like how the film plot leaves some space for speculations about the origins of these strange events. It suggests guessing whether they were natural or not and makes the hair stand on end if the second option is assumed. Also, the idea of passing the suspense through the possibility of non-euclidean space existence and its inhabiting creatures...well, that's just totally something Phillips Lovecraft would tip his hat to. I find such things very unique and the last time I was that impressed by horror film ideas was after watching "Lights Out" and "Terrified" movies. "Box Fort" adaptation is amazing! Real shame it has been seen by fewer people than it actually deserves, but I hope you will carry on filming similar sketches. Good luck, man.

Thanks so much for saying this! You really got what we were going for. So glad you enjoyed it!
*Girls build a box fort*
Some random demon : *interesting*
demon be like ooo new home new killing place
@Fire Dargos demon be like ooo new pet MINE
when i saw the silohouette dog i instantly thought "demon!"
OMG thanks for all the likes :D
Haha 🤣
I like how this short film actually builds up the suspense instead of throwing us into it. Makes that feeling of something being off so much more powerful. Helps me connect with the characters too
Excellent. No blood, no gore, no monsters.Just suspense and anticipation of something in the fort.
Girls: *makes box fort*
Demon: im living here and taking the dog while im here
Forget science! All you need is a box to cross time, space, and other dimensions!!! mwuhahahaha!!!!!
Genius
lol
Me: *sheepishly glances over at basement where there are tons of empty boxes*
But not every dimension Is safe just refer to alters the other side.
cardboard is the 5th element
Not bad. Its funny how they make you believe there's something sinister, that's going to pop out, any second. Fear of the unknown, is the scary part. So glad that pretty doggie was ok. Just a little shakin.
Very unsettling and creepy, without having to even show the viewer what was lurking in the fort. Just knowing something is there is creepy enough, well done 👍🏼
I really love how the beginning has a real home movie feeling… felt like I was watching a real family😂
DONT READ BEFORE TO WATCHING FILM!!
I’m actually very taken back by the quality of this... I mean seriously the talent here is mind boggling! To see something only 15 mins long terrify me more than most Hollywood movies ever would and no blood, no guts, no crazy people- nothing! Just Nothing!!! Lol you’ve literally made a horror movie and made NOTHING scare the hell out of everyone. I’ve never seen this done before... and the quality of acting script etc just all top notch. I really hope the team who made this continue to produce films as this is one of the best I have seen! So original, I just can’t get over it! Great job guys for sure!!!!
You know these people don't you lol.. maybe I'm just built different cuz I live in a major city, but no, no, just no.
Love that somebody made a short film out of this creepypasta story. It is one of my favorites
Dog goes missing
Girls outside the fort withouhjt destroying it:"Theo, Theo, THEO!"
I didn't want her to take down the box fort because Theo could have been stuck in an alternate dimension forever.
Protip. When watching a short horror (or full length horror) at night get a blanket big enough to hide under, that way you don't have to pay attention to the furiniture around you and can't imagine that chair in the corner is a headless monster
Lmao
But then you imagine monsters are surrounding you...
But that's part of the fun XD.
Or just take your contact lenses out before watching and when it gets scary, hold the phone about a foot further away.
I like how they twisted the innocence of the box forth and made it creepy because you can’t distinguish if it symbolizes evil or just fucking with you because it didn’t do any harm
This movie is so cool! This is what horror is all about, atmosphere, strange occurrences, and great acting. These girls are all good actors. I totally believe them. And no need for blood and guts. You don't even see a monster.
Thanks so much! Totally what we were going for! So glad you appreciated it!
Handgun Safe Research - It maybe Cool too you😃
But far from a Horror film. Although, it was a good effort, I would say it was more of a Mystery.
It had elements of suspense, and wonder, but certainly no frightening scenes, by any stretch of the imagination.
An interesting watch regardless.
@@karenbruce5382 Just because it wasn't scary for you doesn't mean it isn't a horror film. Horror is ANYTHING that can be scary, including psychological. Mysteries can fall under horror, but not all horror can fall under mysteries.
@@ladycoyote992 - YOU MY DEAR, can enjoy whatever it IS, that You believe Constitutes as a “GOOD HORROR”
This, in my humble, but very well informed OPINION of a “Great Horror Movie” as I have been watching them my entire life. I spent hours, and many years of those, with my brother-in-law watching many of these
“Horror Flicks” back in the day, when we would all go out and rent them, we would go out, get our alcoholic beverage for the evening, a few different beverage mixes, and settle in for another night of “Horror” most of the time we would laugh more than we were scared.
But the ultimate reason was to spend our time together, as Friends since my sister was no longer married to him☹️
Do Not Tell Me WHAT I SHOULD PERSONALLY see as a “HORROR MOVIE”🤷♂️
I personally do Not care what Your surveys Say🥱
All that matters too me is IF a movie is interesting, keeps People that are watching it entertained, and on the edge of their seats 💺, this DID NOT!
Therefore gets a FAIL
in my OPINION! So do NOT WASTE MY TIME WITH YOUR MUMBO JUMBO B.S.!
People KNOW what They LIKE😈, and what a “HORROR MOVIE” IS!
Perhaps YOU MIGHT, GET INFORMED, get some psychological help if needed, but quit trying too convince yourself of something else😱🤷♂️🤔😨😡😰🥵
@@ladycoyote992 wrong comment
I feel like I could watch this with my 5yo daughter and she would not be scared at all. I think what's scary in this is the anticipation we have, because there's actually nothing unusual going on, except for the cellphone, the mystery of the teleporting dog and a finger sliding through the sheet, which she probably wouldn't get anyway.
It’s so scary but literally nothing happens and I love it for that
@@charleswolf1812 no it’s suspense and the fear of the unknown is the beauty of it
The box creature just wanted a pet dog for a little bit and then gave it back
@@artforhaunting Exactly! Fucking selfish people
I actually hated it for the same reason
Jesus!! Spoilers, much??
I showed this to my great grandpa who fought in the pacific during WW2 he said we should put a flamethrower in the box like it was a spider trench
Yeah and burn the house down. Parents will kill them lol.totally overreaction lol just dismantle the boxes or. Like me in panic...stomp em all flat lol
@@andreaadams8074 nah I'd still burn it
Why did you mention he fought in the pacific in WW2?
@@andreaadams8074 your life or your parents love? What will you choose
@@kayleighfankhauser7042 Because flame throwers were used in the hundreds of tunnels the Japanese army were using as fortifications. That said, I sure gran was joking about the using the flame thrower in the boxes.
It is sad that very few of the "greatest generation" is still around. I loved hearing the stories from the Marines who were island hoppers in WW2. No doubt it was hell for all involved on both sides.
I'm just relieved that the lovely doggo was okay
Thanks for watching, Kiaya! Maybe you're right?? 😱
Love how you never expose what it was terrorizing them. Makes the horror more unique forcing us to use our imagination on what it was in the fort and home, must have been pretty scary to scare the dog away. Plus you didn't have the dog killed so extra points there.
yeah but the fact they don't show anything makes it just not horror
@@Smortboi20i would say it's more of a psychological thriller than a horror movie, kind of like shutter island
Yo! This is based off the Reddit story years ago! This unlocked a memory for me. Nostalgia
Alt title: How to make boxes scary
So far I’ve only watched the beginning and WHY YOU GOTTA MAKE ME CARE ABOUT OUR CHARACTERS WITH THAT INTRO! now I don’t want them to die😢
If my family made a box fort we would put it away after playing around with it 🤷🏽♀️
But the dog so they thought was still in there when they were done so why?
@@sqaushistarship2605 well I don’t have a dog so we put it away anyways 👀 and they still could’ve packed it no go inside 💀
Sameee
I feel like almost every family especially big familys with a small house
Ive watched so many of these youtube short horror films and can say with great pleasure this one was great. So clever. Did so much with so little. Genuinely creepy
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it!
Oh man, this is like something out of Channel Zero (creepypasta adaption horror TV show). If only they hadn't cancelled that series and the showrunners saw THIS short film. Imagine the possibilities!
I was expecting an jumpscare or something, but then the film just ends, perfect 10/100
10/100 kinda sucks
The entire time she was in the fort I kept averting my eyes and just barely looking because it was freaking me out so badly. Just that feeling of "SOMETHING'S GOING TO BE THERE" even though nothing showed up ugh I couldn't handle that
That was pretty good and scary! Some things defy explanation. The shots "sans" exterior lights are very striking. Odd that the sisters did not discuss the odd thing going on. Lost in the "Box Fort" was nerve wreckin' and caused anxiety. It was that feeling of being in a narrow tunnel or a coffin. Nicely done!
Really appreciate the great review! Thanks so much for watching!
Omg it was the box troll's.😅
Really scary to even think that someone could come and go through a window and no one even thought about it.
And why in the mind of a contractor would there be a freaking window in a closet.
Windows in closets are great...natural light....no need to switch a light on and less mildew.
The dog: *"I've seen unspeakable things.."*
EXACTLY
THIS IS ABSOULUTELY AMAZING. the fact that it builds tension throughout the whole things and doesn't release it at the end keeps you covering your eyes. 10/10, scary as hell.
Gotta say I love the time taken to gradually get to the scary parts and how it just made you feel so tense through out it
One word - AMAZING!
Your whole team did so much, with a few boxes, well placed camera angles, subtle acting, and key music/sound choices.
Well Done!!
Thanks so much! So kind of you to say! Glad you enjoyed it!
Some family: *makes a box fort*
Some demon: *this is a job for me-*
The fact that you guys used my biggest fear, which is being ran up on in the dark, made me turn every light on in the house…guess I won’t be going to the restroom at night anymore or ever making box forts again😭
Sorry to hear that! Hope you were able to hold it all night! 😆
Lol
The energy and imagination they used has created a sort of another dimension. Was rly worried the dog wouldn't be found after the fort was folded.
Really leaves room for the audience to guess what else was in there with the lost doggo.
I loved making fort as a kid, its like my own bedroom and different dimension.
As soon as my mom saw the fort I wouldn’t have seen tmr
It's like a reverse shrodingers cat. Also what a kind box spirit, if the dog likes him we're chill man
I can't tell you how many times I looked away lol
This was really creepy....Thank goodness! I loved it.
Yea I kept looking away too. I’m scared there’s gonna be jumpscares
Far from creepy.
I really liked it, especially with the ambiguity of if the monster was actually real, or if they were just imagining things.
I've never seen a horror movie about a cardboard box before! I love how scary you made it. I was so afraid for the dog! Suspenseful to the very end!
You should totally see another short horror movie about cardboard box! Its called ,,the other side of the box”. Its amazing and i really recommend it :)
@@flappyjacky I watched that several months ago and I loved that one!
"Dave made a maze". Which was inspired by the book called "House of Leaves"
One of the best box forts I have ever seen
I held my breath the whole time. wow!! well done Tyler!!!!!!
I believe if you stayed longer in the box fort you probably would have ended up where the dog was meaning into a different realm
Good to see young ladies reliving their childish games :). And why not? The past does have some nice places!
This was absolutely fantastic. The one night scene with the breathing was so well done; I haven't felt that freaked in awhile!!
Great job, loved this! Very very cool. Never thought a box fort would be so tense, especially after the community episode.
Haha thanks Eazdan!! Hope you're doing well!
A masterpiece, I was feeling so anxious the whole time. The suspense and anticipation were superb, the ending is great, subverting all kinds of predictable expectations.
Thanks so much! So nice of you to say and so glad you enjoyed it!
Woow! This feels like a very high budget movie. I’m impressed by this work. Congratulations!
Best acting in this one was toward the dog, the majority of my enjoyment was just all the doggy love
The anxiety I had hoping the dog was alive and okay is immeasurable 😭
I really thought that when she took the box fort apart it would trap the dog in some other dimension or something. 😮
The fact that I was in class while watching this and freaked out and everyone looked at me-
Cutest dog ever! 🐶
1:58 "Maybe the batterys dead, and it'll show up tomorrow" dumbest sentence ever.
Sorry you felt that way! I’ve lost a lot of things only to find them the next day when the sun’s up and you can see better. 🤷♂️
This should be a feature film. This was unbelievable. Great story, great acting and intense scenes. And it’s something that could work as a full film. It’s why I love short horrors. They’re always incredible stories
Thanks so much for saying so! Really glad you enjoyed it. We plan on making feature length films one day, so hopefully you will enjoy those too!

@@pamelatyree3521 My soul is lost
Thanks so much for the excellent review! Really glad you enjoyed it!
I adore what is not there. Because it is. 🤭 EXCELLENT FABULOUS SPOT ON!
Genuinely enjoyed every second of this. Beautiful cinematography, top notch acting, great tension. Incredible work.
Thanks a ton! Incredibly nice of you to say so. So glad you enjoyed it!
I love the cinematography, the shots from inside the box looking out at the characters are really ominous, props to the dp
Thanks, Simple Jack! Our DP was "Not-so-simple" Jack Nitz, although he does enjoy the simple things in life.
Thanks so much! What a compliment. So nice of you to say!
