Bahahaha! So funny
Are you saying we shouldn't have tried to end ww2 as quick as possible?
You didn’t account for inflation or other various economic factors in your equation. A more accurate summarization of American spending throughout two centuries is what percent of the US budget was taken up by military, and also account for what percent of the US GNP was taxed, as pre-1913 the US was radically laissez-faire. I guarantee it’s radically less than 700 billion. In fact the United States military budget when accounting for discretionary and mandatory spending by Congress is about 15% of the budget, about 49% goes to Social Security and health and human services. So you’re right simply because the US was radically laissez-faire economics, Government outlays accounted for 2% of GNP back in it’s proto-european growth, but only by technicality because we didn’t spend much even on health and human services.
Ha we are paying 720 billion on our military right now.
@@chrismoderate3495 this has to be innacurate.

Would be interesting to see a "per capita" adjusted version. And a per-capita per avg. standard of living.
For instance, if a country is wealthy, and populous, then they have the money to spend. Not to say it didn't come by its wealth in altogether nice ways.
Also, an expenditure based on estimated value of natural resource assets. Some countries (US) have a very rich and diverse assortment of natural resources. Some, such as Suadi Arabia have few assets, some of which are very valuable (by today's fossil fuel based economics). Probably still reasonable wealthy, based on Solar. Small bits of the Military Budget cut into Space Exploration. The military budget cuts into a lot of things people don’t know about like the innovation sector. GPS was invented by the Military along with basic things such as super glue and duct tape. It’s so big that it basically is just a compilation of really varied budgets + Airforce + Army + Marines + Navy. And majority of the time those 4 larger military branches still cut into those branches and invent new things and do more than what people think. Them thinking of course it’s all just military equipment and weapons which is simply not the case.
@Brett Mitchell now they do.
The reason France had such a high military budget is because for most of history it was politically isolated, and historically France was usually the country fighting coalitions, not Germany.

Iran: Yes
China: Hold my virus
US spent 7 trillion dollars on war in Middle East and killed about 1.5 million people in Iraq and Afghanistan and Syria but lost the game to Iran and they are not even in top 20

It would make more sense to portray this as military spending as a % of each country's GDP, to truly show their motivations. It will be warped if it's just 'total spending' as richer nations are bound to spend a lot more.
That's the thing. Russia is spending more than U.S in 1980's but that's shooting itself in the foot economically because it's significantly higher part of GDP than Americas spending is.
Good point
Why do you think rich nations should spend more in absolute no.'s .
US is 3rd in population by a large margin and 1st in millitary spendings by large margin.why should a nation with lower population spend more than otherd. It just showa US loves wars .
@@GHOSTrex1324 As a Singh I think you'll understand that USA also has to look out for it's allies in NATO and therefore spend more money.
Rajat Singh Bhandari especially when countries like Germany refuse to pay its fair share
Crazy how the UK is still in the top 3 consistently even today. 50-60 billion for a small island nation is insane
UK was not in top 5
Uk is done
