I have been doing web development since 1995 and have some observations:
1. Surprised took Google so long to replace Yahoo. I had switched to Google in 2000 because the results were better
2. Yahoo probably briefly regained the lead after it became more of a content company.
3. MSN was always big due to default home page for IE which of course was default browser for Windows
4. Surprised AOL hung in there until 2013
Part of why Wikipedia did so well is because it’s the gateway to all other sources listed at the bottom whereas no other website was willing to list every source for how the page of information whatever you typed is on their website

MySpace was the golden age of social media.
@@stabinghobo57 It really was. MySpace allowed you to customize your profile to add creative personality with music and art. Everyone on there was just having fun talking to random people across the world and it wasn't intrusive. It didn't spy on everything else you do on your computer and sell it for advertising. People only saw what you wanted them to see, it wouldn't notify your grandma when you commented on a babes pick saying "nice bewbs 😉". I miss MySpace.

How is it possible that Yahoo was still outperforming Amazon or that Amazon was no longer even on the list as of 2017?
If you're buying something you only log on to do that. Yahoo was a news/messenger site which means multiple visits per day
lot of people had/have yahoo email, and some companies that provided email on their own servers switched to having yahoo host those emails
@@brad7566 Yeah but Amazon has Prime movies and shows that attract clicks.
I guess that we 3 million customers don't search as much.
YahooMail is still has hundreds of millions of users, globally.
Amazon doesn't sell globally.
I just realized that all of these where monthly visits and that's the reason why the numbers were higher than the total human population.
Seriously, a labeled X axis would be a huge improvement. In most of these videos it's unclear what's being measured, it's always just a generic title like "most popular".
That plus the fact that one person can visit a website multiple times

Kiki d Chiwah well google does own a lot of those websites
I was shocked at seeing it pull so far ahead so quickly. 😊
I suspect a lot of Google's growth was artificial and then by manipulating statistics, they pulled themselves up by their bootstraps, so to speak. Nowadays, the growth has slowed as people are looking for alternative search engines that don't track their every move. In case you missed it, the last couple months of 2019 is seeing a steep decline in RUclips and FakeBook. What does this tell you? *There actually are other video sites out there* that don't punish their creators and viewers with some arbitrary ever-changing set of rules and algorithms that do nothing but confuse and disgust their users. It's about to get worse with the new COPPA regulations coming into effect. Watch this site tank after 12/10/19.😐
