@@iwasanacciident What market? They literally went bankrupt, bought by Microsoft, failed once more, sold again and now they’re making Android phones that are ok but nothing special. They’re struggling.
I've been in the wireless industry going on 30 years next month. I started in 1992 as a car phone installer back when only lawyers, doctors and big wigs could afford them. I have to say, even though these are just data coming from large companies, there is something inspiring in watching these kinds of videos, where you see a little company start making a product and with hard work, smart work, and patience, slowly rise up the ladder and beat even the long-time leading producer of a certain product. It tells you not to give up, and not to be let down by the fact that whatever business you want to start, there are already people doing it in massive scales. You can always do better than them, catch up with them in time and surpass them. These kinds of videos offer a lot of inspiration for potential entrepreneurs who are intimidated by large companies and massive rivals.
As a former Ericsson employee, I was positively surprised that the old E/// was still the 7th at the end, despite no phone produced since 2010 or so. Actually, the mobile business was converted first to SonyEricsson and then transferred to Sony, so I thought the same change will happen here too, but not.
I'm currently using a Motorola phone to watch this video. My favorite thing about it is the removable battery, a feature that has been eliminated by most brands. Instead of fiddling with fragile charging cords, I just let it run down and then swap to a fresh battery. I wish there was a phone with a small internal battery and a larger one that could be swapped, though. Then I wouldn't have to power it down every time.
samsung is the biggest phone brand now and motorola don't even know what is happening, their phone are garbage. For some reason, I feel like the HTC G1 and Evo phones started the touchscreen smartphone trend, not Apple. Because even though Apple was already a super popular company back then, not a lot of people were ready to go the iPhone route right away. It was HTC that pushed people and phone manufacturers in that direction. Samsung simply carried the torch from HTC. And Blackberry helped with the transition from flip phone/dumb phone to smartphone by giving people access to social media on a large screen. I know I rambled a bit on here, but it's just so interesting to me how fast we went from simple phones like flip phones that were mainly used to just talk to people to these mini-computer touchscreen phones in such a short period of time.

I think it's because I prefer to text than to talk on a phone. I struggled with it, and swopped over to Nokia, which was simple to use and an absolute joy! I stayed with Nokia until my first smartphone, the Note 5 in 2015, and besides a brief foray into Huawei one year, have stuck to Samsung! I still have one of my old Nokia's puttering around in a drawer for nostalgia sake! imagine - a phone you only had to charge once a week compared to the twice a day with my S22+!

It's actually because they sold the most, doesn't mean they are the most popular today. Just they were so popular at the begining, no one has managed to catch up with there being so many brands today.
I heard they once tried to melt used Nokia's down to shape Lego out of them to make quick and strong housing in geo disaster sites but the Nokia's resisted the process. @@SharkJF Nokia is no popular nowdays and Its still at the top.
Spot On...realistically...all Apple did was put a "Phone" in existing technology they already had...the iPod touch...my first smart/screen phone was a HTC

My first phone was a Siemens when cellphones came to South Africa in 1994 - I was one of the first to get one, and people thought I was pretty weird!
