The Clank lookalike is known as Clonk. He's a good boi. And, very specifically, not Clank. Kudos on another success and I'd say this counts as Without Clank, since you never met him. That was just Clonk, after all
Would be funny if Clank wasn't in the cutscenes at all but all the characters acted like he was "Clank, what do we do?" *harrowing silence due to severe lack of Clank* "Right, right..."
So I remember seeing an alternative way to sort of prevent reuniting on Aranos: If after they reunite you fly back to Endako, the game remembers that you haven't rescued Clank yet, so he goes back to being kidnapped. You won't have USED clank in any ratchet segments, but he will have been on your back, so it really depends on the judgement of the individual.
I myself found an even different way. To quote my comment: I played everything casually until the very end where the door leads back to the hangar. I then decoy clipped into the right wall of the open door, walked a bit and clipped back into the hangar (to the right of the door). This way I just skipped the cutscene trigger where they reunite.
Honestly, I think it says something kind of amazing about how well these games were put together that it functioned as well as it did without getting a key component the game expects you to have. Especially the fact that if you deliberately avoid getting Clank in that second section, that it doesn't just assume you have him when Ratchet gets through since it's supposed to be impossible to not.
As a (not games) developer myself, exploits like these are why I never assume something is impossible. Gaming in the 00s made me a super careful coder lol

18:24 if you look closely you can see the sheepified version of the boss gets destroyed by the main version, it’s likely the game then goes “oh the boss just died, better play it’s death animation” and bam, the boss defeated itself.
You make really interesting challenge runs and I can't wait for more. Your humor is also really fun especially "Ratchet Wills Himself off the ground" A fun time all around.
I wish the ratchet and clank series got more credit of its amazing work. I mean Insomniac Games casually dropped the first 10/10 story in ps5 history and literally no one noticed. The Ratchet & Clank franchise needs more people like you.
I had never DREAMED of the kind of sequence breaks you did here, and the way the game just went along with it at so many points was hilariously amazing!

I remember attempting a clank-less run when I was young. I surprisingly got up to the reuniting at the end of planet Aranos revisit. although I don't remember the Tabora lava gap being that much of a problem. I swear the lava wasn't insta kill but a 2 bounce then sink lava maybe because it was the ps3 version? I remember using the clank-less levitator over and over because I found it so hilarious.
7:15 It's also interesting to note that you can charge-boot from your ship over to that second bolt, but that also would mean waiting for said charge boots. That and the decoy clipping works just fine.
little things i noticed/did in my run of this: during the factory level with the rising water you can actually decoy glove through a wall near the pipes at the start of that segment, jump across into some out of bounds rising water and be raised straight up to the ending cutscene. for extra height, 4-5 decoys in a diamond shape can somehow give you and extra jump when you fall on them for a bit. this is more me venting but that god damn lava swingshot was aggravating because i didnt have savestates on the ps3 version, so i had to respawn, and fight the enemies...every..single ... time. when ratchet and clank were seperated on the prison i beat the second clank segment, got to the very end of ratchets segment and just clipped through the wall on the right as the re-uniting trigger is only at the doorway, it is a very small trigger.
Another way of getting to the Snivelak boss if you already triggered him, you can actually use charge boots twice on the sort of giant circle arches to the right of the entrance, and with the right angles it'll bring you to the far end of the arena and not start the fight again. Pretty sure I did it packless from that as well

I honestly wonder what your “Can You Beat” challenge for Ratchet and Clank 3 Up Your Arsenal will be as the game gives you Clank right off the bat I would suggest a no Hypershot run but you get the Hacker along side that and since there’s no Decoy Glove in the game Decoy Clipping is out. So good luck on that one mate!
Great video. It’s such a shame there’s no way to play the original ratchet and clank games on modern platforms besides emulation. I tried replaying them via emulation a few years back on decent hardware and they were a stuttery mess
Good news is PS2 emulation has come quite a bit in the past few years, and though I've only personally played the first one on emulator so far... works out great! Even most of the visual bugs that used to be a thing for Ratchet games have been resolved, though not quite all of them
Spyro 3 next? Wooo! Just make sure not to play a dodgy pirated copy like we all did back in the day (only 2 quid down the sunday market!). Though, I have full confidence you'd still find a way to do it, even with the game actively trying to stop you from playing. :)
The other day I was going to play ratchet one on an emulator, I was in the second to last planet and I accidentally deleted my save file instead of loading, so this video is my consolation

I’ve had the Immortal Squirrel Glitch happen and as far as I can tell it happens if a Squirrel is killed right as it’s spawned in (the game spawns in a couple as a “Got Ya” moment to make getting the skill point for ensuring all ten tourists survive the tour more of a challenge). I can’t get it to happen with any consistency but as far as I’ve been able to see in the three hours of testing I did I think thats what triggers it. On a side note you can return to the path on Planet Smolg from the up high Platinum Bolt platform with the Charge Boots you’ll “Charge Glide” back down but you’ll have to aim it right.
A little surprised you get the bolts and just that, not skill points or all weapons/upgrades. Granted some of those would require doing things in NG+ so maybe outside the scope you're looking for.
I once attempted a clankless run on NG+, though it ended on Aranos because I didn't know about the glitch to skip the elevator. I used the first person wrench glitch to traverse areas intended for heli/thruster packs. Wrench glitching the long stretch of lava on Tabora was much akin to a TF2 jump map, pogo jumping off of the lava until I reached dry ground
Now I've seen thousands of weird glitches and exploits and have been playing this game for about 20 years. I can safely say I have never seen that levitator glitch, but it made my day.
Fun fact: Ratchet & Clank 2 is the only console game (except All 4 one and Full Frontal Assault) made by Insomniac, where getting Clank is possible, but you don't need him.

i remember doing this casually, and seeing the levitator move without clank was easily the funniest part, i used a new game + and did the first person trick to skip areas and sequence break, loved doing all the glitches in the original 3 games on PS2, but never found anything interesting in Dreadlocked most broken was 2 and 3, played 1 the most as i had it for the longest, played all of them countless times and tried many speedrun strats and glitches for fun skipping clack was easily my favorite challenge
Really cool video! I haven't seen the last 5 minutes yet as I'm "playing along" trying to find the solutions myself and only look at this video whenever I'm stuck. There's 2 things I wanna note: First, in the factory on Notak I clipped through a fence in the first area to get to the bolt that you need to turn to extend the bridge, since otherwise you have to do a high jump to get up somewhere. I'm assuming you did it the same way and just didn't mention it? Secondly, I found a much much easier method of skipping the reuinification with clank on the flying prison. I played everything casually until the very end where the door leads back to the hangar. I then decoy clipped into the right wall of the open door, walked a bit and clipped back into the hangar (to the right of the door). This way I just skipped the cutscene trigger where they reunite. You can then do the rest of the level just fine while being careful not to come too close to that door again, as the trigger never goes away even after the ship is released. I was very surprised when I saw you didn't come to the same solution! Also, if you die or fly to a different planet and return, instead of being forced back with clank, the game throws ratchet back to the place where you get the new wrench. Weird stuff! Anyways, I'm off to continue my clankless run and then I'll finish watching the video. It's been such a cool way to replay the game, so thanks for coming up with this idea!

Okay, I admit that the Levitator caught me completely off guard. I was _not_ expecting it to work.
Turns out the levitator was just a placebo. The will to fly was inside Ratchet all along.

I'm honestly curious if you can beat R&C 2 with only the Gagetron weapons. Considering how weak they are, it might be a bit difficult.

In my opinion, the challenge failed when it forced you to control Clank (twice/three times counting the final boss) But still really cool challenge!

Really cool video! I haven't seen the last 5 minutes yet as I'm "playing along" trying to find the solutions myself and only look at this video whenever I'm stuck. There's 2 things I wanna note:
First, in the factory on Notak I clipped through a fence in the first area to get to the bolt that you need to turn to extend the bridge, since otherwise you have to do a high jump to get up somewhere. I'm assuming you did it the same way and just didn't mention it?
Secondly, I found a much much easier method of skipping the reuinification with clank on the flying prison. I played everything casually until the very end where the door leads back to the hangar. I then decoy clipped into the right wall of the open door, walked a bit and clipped back into the hangar (to the right of the door). This way I just skipped the cutscene trigger where they reunite. You can then do the rest of the level just fine while being careful not to come too close to that door again, as the trigger never goes away even after the ship is released. I was very surprised when I saw you didn't come to the same solution! Also, if you die or fly to a different planet and return, instead of being forced back with clank, the game throws ratchet back to the place where you get the new wrench. Weird stuff!
Anyways, I'm off to continue my clankless run and then I'll finish watching the video. It's been such a cool way to replay the game, so thanks for coming up with this idea!
Can you beat ratchet 2 with "only" clank?
I mean: at challenge mode, you can buy clanks laser weapon, beat all enemy's only with this weapon.
