    I can’t be more agree with you. I had multiple Wested jackets. They were fine, but not as good as I expected. The fit wasn’t the best for me.
    So I went to Steele & Jones and now I have the perfect jacket for me. Tailor made is the best option. Of course it’s pricey. But I don’t regret it.

      Hey Wes. Glad you liked the review. All three jackets I wore on the tour were made by Steele & Jones.
      Also, I just distressed a friend’s Legacy LC, and I couldn’t believe that Wested accidentally put Raiders pockets on it. Their QC is terrible! I would not recommend. You never know what you’re going to get with them.

    I have to say the fit on those S&J jackets is amazing, I bought me one as a kind of an experiment and it's become my favorite jacket. The leathers are also pretty good.
    I just wish the people they hire to do the stitching work would pay more attention to details and use better materials for the lining and the zipper.

      I love them both equally! The temple is really lightweight so it’s a better jacket for the warmer months. It’s also a much tighter cut, so, depending on what I’m wearing, the TOD might be more fashionable. They both look great in a T-shirt and jeans though!

    A bit of everything in this video, including horror! 1:30
    So far, I have four S&J Indy jackets, at the end of this year it'll be six. Hands down, they're the best. This is coming from someone who already currently owns 18-19 Indy jackets, before I even got the S&J's.
    While overall my favorite is my Hawaii Raiders, the LC is an amazing jacket, and the one I was wearing all yesterday. The only real issue I have with it is that because of the lower yoke and wider arm opening, it's not so great for driving. ToD suffers from some of this as well. That's nothing against Diego of course. The jacket just carries on it's design. All in the name of accuracy.
    Great review Daniel.

    • @riserindy
      @riserindy  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you so much for watching! I agree, but we must suffer for fashion! Haha. And 19 Indy jackets?!? Damn! I thought I had it bad!

    • @Pantheragem
      @Pantheragem 10 месяцев назад +1

      @riserindy Well with the S&J now, I do have 22 or 23. And I have Diego making two more, for later this year. A truck chase Raiders, and a kind of Hawaii/Main Hero hybrid from the same leather he made my current Hawaii from.
      I also got obsessed with kind of archiving gear, I guess you could call it. I've got four late 90's Westeds that haven't really been worn, four or five old Coyle's that I never wore. I have some MBA shirts and pants that have barely been out of their bags, the list goes on a little bit. I don't know, I always though it might matter in the history of the hobby someday.
      Don't get me wrong, I wear a lot of my gear as well. Just funny you drop this now, as for the last few days I've been wearing my S&J LC. What a beautiful jacket it is!
      I'm curious, do you notice the movement issues I brought up in yours as well? As far as not being the best Indy jacket for driving in? I assume it has to do with cut, combined with our different bodies, naturally.

    • @riserindy
      @riserindy  10 месяцев назад +1

      @Pantheragem I’m like Nurhachi - a real small guy. Actually, I’m weird. I wear a 36 but I have really long arms. Small shoulders, long arms. I find my Raiders main hero is the least comfortable cut to drive in, whereas my TOD and LC are great in almost all circumstances.
      I am working on a documentary series chronicling gear history. Do you remember Lee Keppler? Or any of the old guard from Club Obi Wan (indygear.com’s forum) they were all close friends of mine when I was a kid. I want to preserve their legacy. I would love to talk to you about your collection! I’m on IG @riserindy

    • @Pantheragem
      @Pantheragem 10 месяцев назад

      @riserindy I didn't know Lee personally, but he's a legend of course. I started on Indyfan Forum in early '99. I followed the evolution from there I guess you could say. Of the old guard, I probably had the most interaction with Michaelson.
      Remember the Patterson fiasco? Oh, I remember the Patterson fiasco.... 😄

    • @Pantheragem
      @Pantheragem 10 месяцев назад

      @riserindy I think we're all a bit "weird"! I'm only 5'7", but wear a 44 basically (43" chest). I'm not fat, but just built with large shoulders and neck (18") for my height. Thankfully Diego can account for all of our "weirdnesses".

    Hey Dan! Great Indy nerd content. Thanks! I currently have a Hero Raiders in the Chocolate Ribby w/ accurate distressing on order. Diego hasn't started on it yet - but this video is making me re-consider. I plan on wearing this as an every day jacket (not just cosplay). What do you think? Should I revise my order and get the Smithsonian LC - or - stick with my Raiders Hero? I'm conflicted. Tell me what to do! 🤠

    • @riserindy
      @riserindy  10 месяцев назад +1

      Oh man… that’s tough. Of course I would say get both BUT.. I think the Raiders jacket is a bit of an awkward fit - on purpose. I think the LC is a much more flattering cut for regular wear.
      But the ribby Raiders jacket from S&J is SO NICE!

    • @Pantheragem
      @Pantheragem 10 месяцев назад +2

      I know you didn't ask for my opinion, but, I own four S&J. Main Hero Raiders, Hawaii Raiders, ToD, and LC.
      I have big shoulders, and a big neck. (I mention that because I think it matters on how much you may have to 'hike' the jacket to move your arms straight out in front of you). The Raiders cut by far is the easiest to move around in, especially if you plan on driving while wearing. If can also really be noticed while doing things like, washing your hands, oddly enough. It has to do with the lower yoke, and larger arm holes.
      All this said I know we're all going to go for our favorite style, no matter what. On all counts, my Hawaii Raiders is the lightest, most comfortable, and favorite S&J (the Raiders Main Hero is my heaviest S&J) I'm actually having Diego do another version of it for me that I'll get sometime later this year.
      I can also recommend, always go with the poly lining. My Main Hero has cotton body, poly sleeves. I'm thinking of sending it at some point and asking Diego if I can pay to have the cotton replaced with poly.
      For what it's worth, those are my opinions.

      @riserindy I agree that the LC is probably the most flattering to the most body types. Diego is so good at making sure the measurements are correct, that it's kind of hard to go wrong with the any S&J.

    Hey Daniel. As per usual, great video! You're my go-to "Indy Guy" on the internet. 😂 Curious to get your thoughts on the standard Wested LC jacket vs the Wested Legacy LC jacket. Is there a big difference in terms of sizing? While I love my Raiders Hero jacket, I find the fit to be quite long and baggy (despite doing the proper measurements). Just wondering if the Legacy is a weird fit as well? I'm looking for a well-fitting everyday jacket, but also something that I can say "hey, I have a bad ass Indy jacket!" 😂
    Keep up the great Indy content and thanks!

    • @riserindy
      @riserindy  10 месяцев назад +2

      Oh boy! Great question! I really need to do a video about Wested sizing but it's a juggernaut and it exhausts me just thinking about making it. Haha.
      Sadly, there is no easy answer. Wested pretends that their sizing is simple but it's not. It's all over the place, however, I've noticed their standard jackets seem to be the easiest to get the measurements "right." The Wested Destiny is based on the Raiders standard and it's a great cut. You can see my review video to see how it looks. In general, Wested's "standard" cuts are going to be the most universal.
      In regards to the LC hero (not Legacy), my old LC hero was GREAT as far as the cut, but the undertones were literally grey so it looked terrible distressed. Oh and one other thing, the LC hero was a totally different measurement than the Legacy, even though Wested claims they're similar. I HATE Wested's sizing charts. Dammit, I guess I need to do that video. Hahaha.

    • @Avepat11
      @Avepat11 10 месяцев назад +1

      @riserindy wow, thanks so much for the in-depth reply! I really appreciate it.
      Haha! I'm so happy it's not just me who struggles with their sizing! In my experience, the customer service at Wested has been mixed in terms of asking them questions. I've sent them a couple of messages, and depending on the day, they'll either give me a (somewhat) okay, but short response, or just say something among the lines of "check our blog." It's a bit annoying, to be honest, especially since the customs fee is so high and because you don't know what type of fit it's going to be. Therefore, that's why I really appreciate your response. Lesson of the day: When in doubt, ask a fellow Indy nerd! 🤣
      One final thing, have you ever weathered the standard LC jacket? I'm assuming it's the same dull grey undertone that the hero had? The Legacy undertones are SO nice and rich, which is why it's such a hard choice! 😫

    • @riserindy
      @riserindy  10 месяцев назад +2

      @Avepat11 I would see if you can get a hero or standard in the legacy hide. It will probably cost you more but you’ll be happier with the undertones. Also, Wested’s customer service is terrible. When I was a kid I could telephone Peter Botwright (the late founder) and talk on the phone for an hour. Anything I wanted customized he’d do for me. After his death the new ownership streamlined everything and stopped putting the customer first. I have had nothing but rude experiences from the new ownership. I have very little love for Wested - though I do love my Destiny jacket. Not accurate at all but comfortable and I love the hide.

    • @Avepat11
      @Avepat11 10 месяцев назад +1

      @riserindy that's a great suggestion. I'll definitely have to look into it. Once again, you're the best!
      Yep, good customer service goes a LONG way! I haven't been impressed with Wested in terms of their customer service, which is funny because there's so many Indy jacket videos on RUclips singing their praise (I felt like an outlier, until you mentioned your issues). In my experience, each reply I got felt like I was "bothering" them with my questions, which, as a customer, that's not what you want. 🫤

    • @riserindy
      @riserindy  10 месяцев назад +1

      @Avepat11 I’ve not had one pleasant experience with their customer support, and I try to be a nice, understanding person. I don’t hound vendors or make unreasonable demands, but every time I’ve talked to them I’m made to feel like I’m a burden and nuisance. In contrast, Diego is always so welcoming and inviting.

  • @TheGshams
    @TheGshams 6 месяцев назад +1

    Leather looks great, weathering is great, but I think my Wested has a more accurate LC stand-up collar. That collar looks more like the lay-down Temple collar. Conversely, I’m hoping the Destiny jacket I’ve ordered from S&J will have a more accurate, thinner, collar than the Wested Destiny jacket collar.

    • @riserindy
      @riserindy  5 месяцев назад

      The collar styles are different depending on the jacket. This is a replica of the one donated to the Smithsonian. Production materials were often inconsistent, especially in the 80’s, when they were being made quickly and cheaply.

    • @riserindy
      @riserindy  9 месяцев назад +1

      I wouldn’t worry about getting your measurements wrong with S&J. They are so thorough, and if you really need it, they offer a $65 special cotton prototype to confirm your measurements with. Wested, on the other hand, can be a real challenge. Their measurement system is terrible, and their customer service is unhelpful.

    Sir, i must confess, I'm not a fan of indy film series, i don't hate it, just really don't care. And i never liked indy jacket as wardrobe piece. But must say steele and jones are nailed it, when i look at you in this jacket, especially from behind it really really looks like spitting image from the movie, dare i say from the back at you in this jacket i've seen indy character, or Harrison Ford himself. Again, i'm not a fan neither of films, character, or jacket and my thoughts purely objective. Anyway, great vid, great fit, super authentic look, keep it up, proud of you 👍

    I can't accept intentionally ruining a jacket rofl. When I was a kid I really wanted the same leather jacket indiana jones had. I got some cheap oversized brown bomber type jacket that looked like his.. Now I'm not a big fan of collars on leather jackets.. I prefer something like a ma-1 leather bomber. I think what made indiana jones cool and his jacket cool is that he owned the style and it was unique to him. Instead of trying to replicate his exact jacket to the scratch, I rather replicate his attitude and general demeaner. I find a jacket i like that works with me and wear it just like he did in the movies.

    I've seen you a few times; I like your videos and I'm not particularly an Indiana Jones fan, although I like him a lot. I am a big Harrison Ford fan and think he is quite handsome. I've been dying to know something and since you aren't pushing 300 lbs., I feel I can ask, but it is a multi-faceted question that comes down to, but not limited to basically this. Is the fascination with Indiana Jones with the fictitious character, or is it about Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones? Please hear me out.
    The reason I ask is because I see guys who appear twice your size (I actually don’t know your size) wearing a costume that Harrison Ford could never squeeze into and could not possibly perform the stunts Indiana Jones can. To further explain my bewilderment, I am a Star Trek Fan. When I have gone to conventions, I typically dress as a captain. Now, since the Start Trek universe encompasses many captains of both size, color and age, I am not out of place in such a costume as I am not impersonating any one particular character, but that of a mere one out of many and could go by any name. In other words, I am not impersonating Captain Kirk, or Captain Picard whose characters are specific, much like Harrison Ford’s character of Indiana Jones is. Each of their likenesses are necessary to attempt to look like them (and I don't), because a uniform alone won’t do it. I am a similar size I guess, 152 lbs, 31 waist, but I don't have those personalities, so I go generic...lol
    In the case of Indiana Jones, I see him only as Harrison Ford, who is a man of; let’s just say proportionate weight to his height. A similar comparison could be Batman or Superman, as you would not expect to see someone weighing 275 pounds in either of those costumes, but apparently it is acceptable for guys to be that size and still wear a costume meant for a man of let’s say, a more modest size.
    Speaking only for myself, if I were trying to emulate a character, I would want to at least resemble that person in some way, be it size or age. From what I have seen, many guys look nothing like what the screen version of Indiana Jones looks like and I’m curious how that is perceived in the Indiana Jones universe, as it seems both common and bizarre. I am assuming the fascination is with Ford, because the movie props are those that are getting the attention, and with good reason I might ad. I’m surprised that Harrison’s jacket from Star Wars doesn’t get more attention, if it’s him that is the draw. He's also good for just about any age, which is unusual and fairly specific to Ford's unique situation.
    I’ve come to you because you do emulate Indian Jones and you must know that you do, as well as those who don’t should also be self-aware of that as well. When you wear your gear, it doesn’t look like a costume. For one, because it isn’t, and two because it suits you. When I say it’s made for you, I mean that in a way that matches your personality as well as your physique. That’s how Harrison Ford’s clothes fit him and that’s the way they fit you. I wish I like pleats, but I have to draw the line somewhere. That alone has saved me $1000!
    My curiosity about others is because it should be painfully obvious to some of them that they do not share your fortune appearance. It’s not always what you wear, but how you wear it. I’m not saying Harrison would have looked great in a Superman suit, but he wouldn’t have looked bad I’d bet and wouldn’t have been a 40” waist either or anywhere near it. My point is the clothes really do not make the character, but they must fit; much like yours does.
    So this brings me back to my original question, if you can call it only one. Why do people who do not resemble the Indiana Jones that your clothes were originally and specifically made for Harrison Ford, wear that costume as though it makes them look like that character, when in fact it does not?
    Great video, nice jacket! Thanks!

      Hi! Thanks for the compliments! I think for many cosplayers in this fandom, their childhood obsession with the character and the costume is the driving force. It doesn’t matter if they have the physique or not. They aren’t trying to convince people that they look like Harrison Ford. Instead, they’re having fun wearing hats and jackets and carrying whips because they love the costume!
      I like Harrison Ford and I’m grateful for his embodiment of the character but he isn’t the reason I have so many pieces of the costume. It’s the costume itself that compels me. I love the fedora, leather jacket, bullwhip, and satchel. It’s an amazing movie costume! It doesn’t matter what your physique is. If you’re as in love with the costume as much as I am then you just want to wear it, even if you look nothing like the original actor.
      And if it looks silly to you, just know that they’re having a good time and that’s really all that matters. It’s silly for any of us to wear this stuff! Haha.
      Hope this answers your question and I hope you have a wonderful day!

    The data on the top brass button is inaccurate. If you refer to the movie, you can clearly see the brass button snap over to the right side in numerous scenes. Like when they are riding in Sallah's brother in law's car. Most notably when they are in the desert and Henry says to Indy, "get down." Indy turns towards Henry and says, "Dad, we are well out of range." You can see the top button placement is to the right. Why the Smithsonian sample is centered, I have no idea.
