A good trick to preserve the carb and fuel line is to run some canned "True Fuel" through it before you put it away for the season. I've done this over the last couple years and it's worked great. They start right back every spring. Nice video and nice of you to do this for your neighbor.
Very nice of you to do that for your neighbor. I have the same saw that I bought off of the original owner who is now 87 years old. He sold it to me with the case and all the original paperwork for $25 and it runs great.😁
Very cool. Yeah I wanted to buy it from him but he said it was given to him by his Dad in the 70's or something and was sad it wouldn't run, that is why I wanted to get it running for him again.
Thanks for the reply. I got a new fuel line with a filter on it. The old one was dry rotted. Put the new line in, cleaned it up. It starts and runs like new
I restored the 015 that I inherited from Dad a couple of years ago. It took nearly a year to figure everything out. The main "problems" were: 1) The diaphragm/check valve behind the snap ring & screen on the carburetor needed to be replaced, so be sure to buy a carb kit with the check valve. The carbs are no longer available, but rebuild kits are. 2) The gap between the flywheel & coil needs to be in spec. I replaced the points & condenser with a solid-state ignition from a video that I found on another YT channel. Easy modification, and my 015 runs better than new. Three minor points that I dislike about the 015 are that the fuel & bar oil reservoirs are too small (constantly filling both), and the air filters are super expensive, if you can find them. I am very careful with mine and gently clean it often. Aftermarket sprockets, bars & chains are available, mostly on/off eBay. I have spares and/or duplicates for just about the entire saw, after buying a non-running 015 for $50 from a local small-engines shop. It had a brand new bar and chain and the cylinder/piston are pristine, so I definitely got my $$ worth on that deal.
Great video you done a excellent job.I have one just like that. I got it in 1987 it was used and not running I had it in a old building. I am going to see if I can fix it now.
it wouldn't be a 87 could be 83 that was the last year on the carb by to the right of the low jet it will say hdc 17 and you will see the date under that . I have several 015 015 l 015 av and 015 R in total I have 9 if you have any questions just message back . by the way I see where you said 87 I thought you meant it was a 87 😆
gamer X, any suggestions on where to find parts? I have a 015 L runs good but it's got an oil in chain tension port where the pin slides forward and back. I'm guessing probably a seal or something not sure but parts are hard to find unless I'm just looking in the wrong place.
Thanks, i just got one and am trying to get it going. It was in some water at some point. I got the piston unstuck, has good compression. Freed up the pull cord that was frozen too. On to checking for spark and carb rebuild. Hopefully coil / points is still ok.
When I add fuel it just drains out the bottom of the saw. Does the fuel line connect to the tank with a rubber hose or is it a metal tube connection that connects to a rubber tube. It ran last fall when I put it away.
anyone having carb issues may need a check valve and it does not come in the carb kits . I've seen alot of people use carb cleaner and it can destroy the check valve .
I'm in France mine has a different collor and is from 12/1977, i'm trying to find the missing, used, not working or broken parts to fix it. I should be able to get it running but i'll probably still miss some parts to get it complete and realiable.
@@magicone9327 i need to open it ? Because i dont see anything. On what piece ? The pieces references are engraved on each part but i dont see serial numbers.

Excellent how to video. I've done mechanic work for decades and learned something new today. Thank you for sharing this!

Great stuff, I have just bought one of these as little project, love old stihls. Learnt some good stuff. Thanks......

Great video thank you,who makes that vacuum tester that your using?checking the needle and seat is a must.
I too have a 45 year old Sthil 015. Last time I had carb issues, it was cheaper to buy a new carb rather than the kit.
The problem with these saws in either a rotten carburetor from decades of sitting fuel or an ignition coil
Where can I buy a vacuum tester like yours?

Check the fuel tank/oil reservoir gasket at the front. Very common leak point if the hose isn’t the culprit.
great job👍👍
Any updates on the accord?

What is your saws serial number? It's stamped just above the bar/chain on the forward tight side as your holding the saw.

@frederic6998 did you get it running ? if you need any help or parts I got alot of good used parts . I been working on these saws since 1985
Hadir menyapa bos ku
Use a jumper cable when checking for spark
i use a copper wire roll it around the spark plug and put the other side in contact with the cylinder.
where did you buy the carburetor
the carb kits are easy to get they are on ebay any hdc 10 kit will work if your working on a 015 the carb is a hdc 17 A or B
Looks like a walbro hdc17 carb
