What you need to realize is people may check out a MTB channel for the topic, but they end up staying for the people in the end. You're real and relatable. The content doesn't need to be perfect. Just do your thing, we are along for the ride.👍

I agree so much like I started watching cos you had some cool biking content on your channel but now I’m generally interested in what’s going on whatever you’re doing. I also feel like I relate to that feeling of being overwhelmed cos of how long I think a task will take when really I should just get it done, but my tasks are just homework, yours are full on life. Keep it up man whatever you post

I’ll be honest with you. I found your channel because of mountain biking. But that isn’t why I’m still here. I enjoy your content, whether it be riding or trail building, or van maintenance and watching paint dry.
You both have such a cool and relaxed vibe, that I just feel happy being able to watch. It doesn’t have to be super high quality and cinematic, I’lol be smashing the like button and dropping comments to feed the algorithm.
No pressure to stick to a tight and frequent schedule. Whatever balances the life pressures and projects.

Thank you for sharing!! It's hard to admit stuff like this, especially to a whole host of people on youtube where everyone else seems to be doing well. This video got me quite emotional. You're describing something that happens to most of us. Perfection is a sweet dream but a pain to obtain, and more often than not we achieve it when we are not really trying to. THIS video was more perfect than many others you've made, because this time we got a sneak peek into the real you which I enjoyed a lot. Thanks for sharing and I wish you continued success in your endeavours!

Super grateful I've stumbled upon this video as I can very much relate. As a content creator myself, I tend to get caught up in the mindset of perfectionism. Over the years, I've created less and less, and have experienced creative burnout time and time again. We're starting to get back into making videos for fun, which has been a relief. Making silly little TikTok/Reel videos has been really helpful, since there's so much less you can do with them compared to a full-length RUclips video. It's nice to have a stupid idea, film it and post it, all within 30 minutes.
Besides creating content, owning a business and also trying to prioritize my personal life has led me to similar cycles that you mentioned. Starting something, getting overwhelmed, starting something else to distract me from the first task I started, repeat. Before I know it, I have (literally) 20 projects going on all at once.
While stressful, I'm at least happy I have things to do and that I'm trying my best to better myself and move forward. Sometimes I just have to take a step back, take a deep breath, and focus on not only finishing some projects, but also actively enjoying the process of working on them.
Keep the spirits up and the worries down 🤘

That was a beautiful video and thank you for being vulnerable. I agree with others that it is about the person making the video and the story they tell. The people I follow, they could video anything, just so long as they are telling the story. Your road blocks hit home with me and that paralysis is so real. I concur with most of the other posted comments. As a RUclips watcher, I love the content, but realize that it is the person we stay for. Like Seth from Berm Peak, I could listen to you narrate the stylings of how to make an omelette. Don't know if you saw his episode where he did this...hilarious! I learn a lot from your videos because you are precise and methodical in your approach to projects...mountain biking or otherwise. I too can have a lot of projects in the pipeline and get overwhelmed, but then watch videos like yours and know I am not alone. That's worth its weight in gold. I can relate to so much of this... especially getting obsessed with the analytics... my channel started out as DIY and woodworking stuff... just as the channel was starting to gain some momentum, I started playing around with unrelated content as my interests started shifting... adding stuff like music and eventually Mountain Biking... at the height of my growth Social Blade predicted I would hit 100K subs in 3 years... it's now 3 years later and my growth has gone down to almost nothing... I managed to pass 10K about a year ago, and I've only gained 1.4K since then... its a hard pill to swallow after all the hard work I've put in over the last 5 years... I've always enjoyed your content... Keep up the good work... 🤘

This along with your many skills and talents makes you authentic and ultimately THAT is the key ingredient that the audience is after. As someone who works in the creative world and also has like 500 hobbies outside of it, I 100% felt everything you were attempting to and successfully conveying. That overwhelmed feeling is something I try to explain to my wife and she now mostly understands. She still has no idea how to help me and I have no idea how to ask for help, but at least she knows why something may not be getting done and why I sometimes just HAVE to move onto something else. One thing I've really tried hard to do, especially when it comes to the house, is to just do one thing at a time unless there is no way to finish. We live on the wet side of Washington, so that complicates thing as well, with the gray days and dark evenings, it takes a toll on me.
Anyways, this comment is buried super far down, but you're not alone. Don't burn yourself out, but also, just try to find ways to keep moving. Like many others here, I absolutely love the randomness that is your channel. Just keep creating content and fuck the algorithm and all that business. Listen to Gary V and just keep creating. Hang in there man, but have fun!

I do love the van build and trail builds but stoked you're just back filming. I think a couple million people watched Seth organize a storage garage.... so it doesn't really matter what its about. When I overload my to do list just start with the small ones. Getting one or two done makes you feel good and gives you momentum for the bigger ones. Keep it up!

  • @noobFab

As so many other have said, it's the person(s) behind the channel which usually make me want to stay. I love your humor, and humanity which permeates your videos, the sense that you're just like me or someone I know, going through a similar life but having these cool adventures, or interesting projects, just like I could - that's inspirational to me in a very real way!
I very much feel your funk, so to speak, when it comes to getting overwhelmed or demotivated with the things we take on. I learned something very interesting from a video I watched the other day which talked about motivation and burn-out. That person talked about how we are usually geared towards wanting the sense of achievement which comes with completing something and the dopamine drop which comes from crossing that finishing line. This is all well and good for 1% of the project, but for the other 99% of it we struggle to stay invested in the process as their is no chemical reward. If you can re-orient yourself to get your enjoyment from the doing, the being-in-the-process, or "hey look at what I'm achieving" type of viewpoint, it can help hugely with staying motivated to get something done.
Overwhelm can be similarly disruptive, but writing out a skeleton overview of the project, taking the first phase and then just outline the first couple of steps can help to let you shut out the vast, looming cliff of evertyhign waiting to bury you, and just focus on ONE THING, just that first starting point or that one step. That will often seem totally doable and can let you eat the proverbial elephant - one bite at a time.
Another good way to stay on point is a buddy system. Find someone who has similar goals and split your time between your projects - you and another person working for one day on a project can often get more done than one person can in two days, especially when it comes to problem solving. It can also be a massive boost in motivation through guilt - "well I can't give up now as they helped me yesterday..." Or, for the more positive... "hey look how much we achieved today, way more than I expected!" Plus you also get to work on their projects which are often far easier as they don't have your own emotional baggage attached.
As you said, don't sweat the small stuff, just keep being you and share some of the stuff you do without being too critical, you have plenty of hardcore fans who will always help with feedback and ideas, should you need them. The living room looks amazing by the way - inspires me to get on and finish my own apartment, which I have also been struggling with! Thank you for all your fun, epic, and inspirational content from a very genuine and conscientious human being.

You're doing great work. Every video I've seen is incredible. It's a monumental effort making these videos. I may have barely begun, but I know that being your own toughest critic can be a real drag. I hope you can go easy on yourself and keep laying track till the train takes off.

Man, you’re the man. Not many people realize what it takes to be a content creator. Not many people know that I was in all 9 of the starwars movies… as myself… “the force.” That why, regarding your badass riding and creation talent I can say … may the force be with you.

Oh, man, there is so much I want to say about this. Hang in there. Putting out videos has to be on the fun side for you. We'll stick around here until you're ready. BTW I'd watch renovation videos too if you put them out. You really can tell a story in my opinion.

Amen! This one hits a bit too close to home for me. End up not making a lot of videos cause I spend too much time overthinking them. That spills over into my other projects too. Before I know it things start to pile up and it seems insurmountable. Good work getting out of the trap yourself!

I initially subscribed to your channel because of your van videos. I like your approach to handling projects. But I wanted to share something with you that I recently learned about myself and couldn't leave you apply to you. Earlier this year at 44 years old I found out that I have ADHD! When I learned this and started understanding what it means, I realize that some of the struggles in my life could be explained by the symptoms of ADHD. And lot of the struggles you described seem very familiar LOL. Hang in there man. You got this! Just relax and have fun with the RUclips thing.

Funny, I did a double take this afternoon because I thought I saw scruffy heading north on 95 and then there’s new content. This was great. I too can get overwhelmed with creating too many projects and then fizzing out on all of them. Good thing is they’re still waiting and can still be finished when you’re ready. Except the wood…there’s a white ticking time bomb for that. ❄️

You have a unique style to your editing and finished products unlike anyone else I'm subscribed to on YT, in my opinion. Your stuff is incredibly watchable, I have watched all your clips .. a few more than once ! Stay true to yourself, you have an army of viewers here on YT that will support you any which way. You are crazy talented and creative, thanks for the ride thus far 🚴‍♂️🤘🏽

First, nice job on your living room! Second, during this video I kept thinking even though this video is more low key it is still a ton of work. The camera setups, the clip organizing, editing, voice overs, it all adds up. Best of luck finding that work/life balance.

I can totally relate to the described mechanics with starting projects, getting pulled in, getting overwhelmed and stop moving them along. I have to do lists for everything and all they seem to help me with, is feeling inefficient.
I try to tell myself that it is okay not to get a multi day project done in 2 hours … and that it is okay not to achieve perfect results in fields I am far from being an expert. Taking the first step and the next, one at a time.
    Thanks for sharing!
