    Awesome video I'm a solo filmmaker, and I was wondering about the active track. So, thank you for sharing more.
    It's really interesting that you break down how you shot everything 🙂

      @@jeremiahnichol2529 Yeah, the Ronin RSC2 just came out - seems to improve on everything - form factor, controls - even setting up active track. It's also worth looking into the raven eye that is an add-on peripheral. Check out this glowing review ruclips.net/video/Y7UEHryq7zo/видео.html

    Great review Mike! Question. Did Activetrack improve through firmware updates meanwhile? Just ordered mine anyway, so I gotta live with it :)

    • @MikeErickson
      @MikeErickson  4 года назад +1

      Not particularly, but it's been a while now since I used it. It's limited from being a contrast system (and possibly just through the phone you use?). But I hope you dig it! Still a great gimbal!

      No, I haven't done much live streaming - bit I think I'll try to do it more. It's a good skill to have i think.

    So wait, I don't need the Pro follow focus for the listed lenses? Interesting.

    • @MikeErickson
      @MikeErickson  3 года назад +1

      It's true, basically any of the native lenses. Sometimes they can have nasty focus steps though - I'm uncertain whether there is a sensitivity setting from the dji app (thought I found it once but couldn't the other day when I checked)

    Hey Mike,
    Just subbed. Nice job on the short film and SC review. Appreciate it!
    Check out the new PGYTech Handgrip mount for the S & SC. It gives you some more mounting points for underslung mode and also add another old smartphone to see yourself when you’re in front of the lens.
    I don’t have the SC but it’s on sale now for $299 for another day and wondering if I should get it or wait for the next version.

    I’m new to this so it might be a bad question.. but why can’t you flip out the screen and turn it 180 to help you focus for active track when filming yourself?? 🤔

    • @MikeErickson
      @MikeErickson  4 года назад +1

      Hi Cass, thanks for the comment. Basically the active track is controlled independently through the phone (I could actually use the active track with no camera at all) so I could be framed perfectly in the camera monitor but still be screwed right or left in the active-track camera or have a different subject selected - if that makes sense. One thing I haven't tried lately is seeing if the active track works when the phone is in selfie mode. Might be time to see what kind of updates there has been.

    This video was the one I was looking for, thanks for sharing your experience with it.
    I have a question: I'm in doubt about which one I should get, if the Ronin-S or SC, let me explain.
    I already have a follow focus from Tilta, I'm attaching it on a SmallRig cage with a shotgun microphone, with the follow focus motor and its battery.
    All is 1.7kg, and I don't know if I should get the SC because of the 2kg payload.
    Do you think its not gonna perform badly being so close to the weight limit?
    Thanks for the attention

    • @MikeErickson
      @MikeErickson  4 года назад +1

      That's a tough call - I do notice that I get some bumps and jitters in the footage when the camera is just slightly unbalanced - would be fine with the bigger gimbal, but the SC just doesn't have the power, even when the zoom lens extends. The safe bet would certainly be the Ronin S - or weebill Lab looks promising.

    can not get my g7 and iPhone balanced on dji ronin to do active tracing and its 525g and yours is 725g, can you make a vid of your process, if you still have this setup

    • @MikeErickson
      @MikeErickson  3 года назад

      It's possible the heavier camera actually helps with balancing. I'll see if I can do it with my new phone - but it's a note 20 and it's fricken huge!!

      @MikeErickson  3 года назад

      @@NickBeanMusic honestly though dude, I haven't used this feature since I made that video (almost 2 years). I always want full control when I'm filming someone, and it is an absolute pain in the ass to film yourself.

    Can I ask you please. When they say you can pull focus with the gimble in MF mode. How does that work. How does it pull focus with out a gear set up on the lens. I use the push focus in manual mode often. Can I push focus with the SC? Thank You.

    • @MikeErickson
      @MikeErickson  3 года назад +1

      So depending on the lens (likely needs to be native glass for whatever system you're using) when you plug into the gimbal it allows you to focus with the wheel without the follow focus attachment. You even have the ability to set the sensitivity of the focus. I also use the half press to focus using the record button on the gimbal - works great!

    I have a question. Does the RoninSC do programmed moves for timelapse. If yes how many multipoints can it take. Can the speed of the movement between points be set ? Can the speed be different for each point ? And finally when it finishes the move does it stay at the last point or will it make an instant ugly jump back to start/home position ? Thanks

      @@MikeErickson > Thanks for that link. I was shocked to know, DJI is conituing its tradition of keep control on your devices. WTH does a gimbal need online activation and permission from them to run after we pay and buy ? I dont understand the need to keep watch on my equipment, its in no way a communication device, and not even a drone, bec for a drone they had some bullshit excuses like security and all that to spy on you and your usage. But in this case i dont see the need. can i use it without having to plead permission to them to use the device i payed them in full for ?
