It always makes me smile the way foreigners understand our military meals. First of all, soldiers have a mess kit with a 3-piece cutlery (small fork and spoon plus a pocket knife with extra tools) and a folding pan with a split lid to be used as a tray or dish. Also, contrary to common belief, spanish military does provide bread. Luckily fresh if you're close to some major unit with their own logistics or in organized exercises, but usually there are cracker packs that are issued separately. Not to be confused with the biscuits included with breakfast, which are sweet. We often dip those on cocoa or coffee. Breakfast and crackers have a shorter shelf life and are the cheapest part of the "catering".
"A" menues are intended for lunch (most important meal in our country, but the military seem to prefer them a bit lighter so the soldiers don't carry a heavy digestion) and "Bs" are for dinner. For the most part, they are interchangeable, but Bs are a bit more sit-down meal and heavier.
There's always a soup that needs some time to hydrate properly, a preserved fish or seafood can (or as this time the salad) that we eat cold, a main that needs heating (everything from cans is already cooked, I mean just heating a bit is enought and could be eaten cold if necessary) and a sweet dessert like that apple cream you used to mix with pork ( 😅 ). I have the feeling you stirred that pork a bit too much, since it is usually presented in big chunks. Pates are served with B menus for dinner and you're supposed to eat it with remaining crackers.
The vit.C drinks are not very appreciated and some soldiers prefer to put the powder on their mouth and swallow it on one go with a good growl of water. But normally they should be used to add electrolites to your canteen every time you refill it. Also instructions can be confuse, since you receive 8 satchets per day and are instructed to consume "2 rations per day". A ration is the pack of 4 satchets you receive with every meal. They are divided for convenience when used as I said, when refilling the canteen.

Bread is provided separately, but it is provided.

Also, I forgot to mention, there's the price problem. Let me be clear about this: they don't sell them to the public. Every spanish ration you can see on sale out there has been smuggled out. This includes large boxes sometimes. This also means that most appreciated meals are scarce, since soldiers are less prone to save them for later.

Thanks, informative and entertaining as ever. I was told not to cook in the tin because the plastic lining will burn. What are your thoughts? I place the tins in a pan of water, saves washing the pan!

If it didn't cost a fortune for you to ship to the US, I would absolutely buy some of those from you. Thanks for sharing.

I'm glad you like the Spanish rations. French, Italian, Portuguese and Greek are very good too. But my brother, is it normal making noises with your mouth while eating? I know in Asia is not an issue, but here, at least in South Europe, is considered uneducated. May be where you come from it isn't. Greetings.

Perhaps, if people want their kids to watch and learn -- moderating your language might be an idea ?!
