Each operator in Spanish army have also the pocket knife, and a kind of small size spoon and fork for the meal (stainless steel), so they don´t have to generate extra residues, plus it maximizes the space for the meal in the ration pack. That´s the reason it´s not included basically. I can recall the lunch ration has traditionally also coffee, but it is true it varies frequently on some configuration depending on where the meal is supposed to be eaten. I certainly enjoyed the review! Thanks a lot.
You're missing context. Spanish soldiers carry reusable silverware as part of their gear, this creates less garbage. The crackers for the paté is given to you in the breakfast MRE, that one has a bunch of crackers with the idea that you'll save some for lunch, aswell as the instant coffee bags, they are also given in the breakfast MRE.
The Spanish issue a small/medium sized loaf of bread in the field with each ration, if they can. That's to dunk in your soup, and most importantly, to spread the pate on.
spanish army rations are divided in breaksfast, lunch and dinner. Whit the breakfast ones come a lot of crackers and you use them along the day. Good review
Spanish MRE do not include spoon, fork or knife because those utensils are part of the standard equipment. We carry them in a nice pouch attached to the belt. The are made out of steel and somewhat miniaturised
En las raciones militares españolas el pan galleta va empacado por separado. No está incluido en el paquete de almuerzo o de cena. Se entrega por separado en paquetes separados. In Spanish military rations, cracker bread is packaged separately. It is not included in the lunch or dinner package. Delivered separately in separate packages.
Los sabores de la comida española , no se consiguen en todar partes. Es un menú preciso para aportar todos los nutrientes y satisfacer el paladar. Asi todos los soldados se sienten en su casa 😊
Hi. Nice review of our rations! About the items that you missed, we have spoon and forc as a individual item for each soldier so there will no unnecesary rubish with the meals and tge crackers come on the breackfast meal as with a toothbrusher.
3:00 That's the coat of arms of Spain which is also always present in the national flag; It's not related with the military. Each branch of the Spanish army has its own coat of arms.
have been watching other spanish lunch component video's & reading the comments. 1 you need to open up to page 2 for the english listing of the items in the box. 2 utinsels, crackers, are issued in the morning with the breakfast meal.
Congratulations. I really liked your video. I'm Spanish and it's been quite a few years since I did my mandatory military service. Actually, they are professional. I wanted to tell you that the portion does not include a spoon, fork or knife because they are carried inside the canteen case, which also has an aluminum saucepan underneath. Another thing I wanted to tell you is that you have turned the small stove upside down to heat the food. The two-sided part is downward and the four-sided part is upward. This prevents the flame from escaping and potentially causing a fire. I'm glad you liked it. Greetings
Great review. I think the Spanish military procurement team did a great job. Insisting that the meat/ fish is top notch. I would be interested to see another 24hr hour ration pack review of the Spanish kit. IF and it's a big if, that one came with some decent coffee and a pack of choccy bickies it could challenge the UK pack. Yet again another informative and relaxing Sunday watching video Sir!
Hi Phil, many thanks for the support for the channel, it is much appreciated. Only last week I filmed a review on the USA MRE ration pack, which I will get up on thr channel very soon. Needless to say, it was a very nice eating experience and will be very had to beat by any other nation in the future. I would certainly love to try an Australian pack and will keep trying to find one for the future. Best wishes, Ash
If you turn the metal stove the other way round it would work better (four metal walls looking up, and two looking down, just for support). It would still allow air to come in, but not as much as seen in the video, so it would heat better. Regards.
I'm Canadian. Would love to see what our guys/gals are given in the Canadian ration pack if you ever get the chance. The spanish one looks hard to beat!
Excellent video Ash, really interesting to see the ration packs and how they are composed. One thing I was wondering, shouldn't you use the little stove the other way around? The four walls would protect the flames better and keep the heat more contained. (specially when used outside when there is a gust of wind)
Add some wine and some bread from the nearest town and that was the very typical lunch we took for long walks in the country. and yeah each one took his own cutlery! 😀
Hellooooo!!! In the Spanish army we have a kit that consists of a spoon, fork and multi-purpose knife, all made of metal. That is why we do not need utensils with field rations, affectionately called "bricks". Greetings!!
A few thoughts: 1. I would much rather have a ration with less.... "goodies" and accessories... and better mains. For that reason, I think I would be into this Spanish ration. The trick, I think, with rations is to minimize the gap between ration food and "real" food. This ration appeared to do a good job of that. 2. I recommend skipping the American MRE. As someone who ate a number of those in the past, I assure everyone that they're not missing anything by NOT eating that. 3. I have seen a couple videos from this guy and... really couldn't care less about his "chap's guide".... but really love his little outdoor shed for overnight getaways. I would really love to have one such shed for myself. I would recommend more videos filmed at the shed. I don't know if this guy actually cooks, but perhaps some rustic, outdoor cooking or something like that? 4. Finally, with all due respect... I would have thought that a guy who purports to be an authority on class and sophistication would be a little better at not slurping, speaking with his mouth full, and scraping his fork/spoon across his teeth.
I just wanted to compliment you on your choice of bumper music, Ash. There’s something about piano jazz that puts me somewhere between listening to a “Peanuts” cartoon in the background and enjoying a scotch and water at a dimly-lit piano bar in midtown Manhattan (or, of course, the New York Bar on the 52nd floor in the Park Hyatt in Tokyo.) And bravo on using the Kelly Kettle!
Lo siento señor, pero no esta haciendo una preparación de campaña. No se debe utilizar elementos externos , como la estufa para calentar el agua. El soldado dispone de pastillas de fuego suficientes.😅
I remember various MRE as in the barracks I served in, there were several units from different countries. But my favourite MRE was the CANADIAN one as they combine the best of both worlds, the English and the French. Their meals are really substantial. They offer three different meals, i.e. breakfast, lunch and supper and each meal has a combination of 6. So that makes 18, and that is quite a choice. For breakfast you'd get a cooked breakfast, almost a kind of a Full English Breakfast, so that could get you started off for the day: hash browns or ham steak with mustard sauce or scalloped potatoes and ham. For lunch you'd get e.g. Shepherds Pie or Cordon bleu or hungarian goulash or beef Chop Suey. And for supper they have e.g. Tarragon chicken or Salisbury steak dinner or cheese Tortellini. But my favourite one was "Poutine", containing big Chips and Cheese curds and topped with gravy, a specialty from Quebec. I could always find large helpings of that as it was not popular with British troops: the vinegar was missing!
Those Canadian MREs I haven't tried. But poutine is something I grew up with. I wish sometimes I joined the RCAF but I always refused to 'waste time' and rather study. Everybody has a different direction in life.
Depending the Spanien MRE you bough you get different things, what you said about the drinks you usually get 2 instant coffees and a type of instant Limonade for example
There are 2 tipes of instant soops you can get, the chiken shoop and the one you got, the vegetable shoop, the oumount you have is meant to dump everything in your can full of hot water
Another video idea to do is Fair Isle sweaters, which are patterned sweaters. Only because I think its the perfect item to help stay stylish without worrying too much about getting stains on your clothes. And it can also be layered really nicely too and can be easily be cold washed (unlike a suit). Because lets face it, when wearing a suit you want the most out of it and that'll be to avoid stains as much as you can, especially if its stone coloured or such. Its the perfect item to be used in a casual setting, especially if you still want to wear a shirt and tie since there's loads of Fair Isle sweaters with V necks and even deep v neck shapes. The patterns from the Fair Isle sweater also will stand out in a crowd of people.
El hornillo lo has dobledo bien pero lo has colocado del revés. Lo has puesto boca abajo. El recipiente de la pastilla de fuego lo has colocado hacia abajo y las patas hacia arriba. You have folded the stove well but you have placed it upside down. You have turned it upside down. You have placed the fire tablet container down and the legs up.
I wonder is this intended to be complete or the protein basis to expand on depending on what you can get access too, or other bits are issued on top. If you could get some tomato or onion = tuna salad. Or a some rice / potato or a bit of bread to go with the meat. Same with the pate, all protein. Very few carbs as is, in the ration. I don't think the design of this is a complete day like the British/American sort. I'm guessing Spanish troops issued mess tins and eating utensils. Maybe collectively brew coffee. Spanish military numbers probably vastly increased by bodies like the Guardia Civil who are Police but very much Military styled (you are probably aware of this). I've always found Spanish tuna to be much better than UK canned stuff, the white albacore stuff is beautiful but even what you get in LIDL in Spain, much better than ours.
The USAFE joked that MRE stood for Meals Rejected by Ethiopians. The interesting point that the firm that produces MRE meals, also produce MREs for the American Red Cross, which are distinguishable as come in a yellow packet, and the recipe MRE meals have spices removed for third world tastes. So there might be some truth in the joke. Best thing in the MREs are the big plastic spoon, and the self heater device.

La raciones militares españolas no llevan cubiertos para comer porque cada soldado lleva sus cubiertos de campaña de dotación. Spanish military rations do not include eating utensils because each soldier carries his own campaign utensils.
2:28 Worth noting that contrary to the UK, The Kingdom of Spain is not only a Mediterranean country, like you like to point out, but also very much an Atlantic country. However, for obvious reasons related to British leisure habits, most Brits only acknowledge the Mediterranean. A canary islander or a Galician most likely cringe at that bold statement. If you allow me an analogy, it's like saying France is an Atlantic country, full stop. If you give credit to one sea, you need to acknowledge the other one, too. A map and some quick research would solve any doubts 😂
Impressed, definitely looks better than the French one. I must admit to being slightly biased against fruit cocktail, having been brought up listening to my grandfather's stories of 3 days on Utah Beach with nothing to eat but fruit cocktail!
What sort of boots or shoes do you wear for your outdoor endeavours in the countryside? As an aside to my primary question, i would have thought this particular ration pack being for service men in action, wouldve been more carbohydrate based rather than majorly high protein, for energy .
I generally opt for a combat boot for my daily adventures (I have a pair of black Clark's Craftmasters that fit the bill perfectly), but for extreme outdooring, I would opt for something with GoreTex and all the bells and whistles - appearance is great, but performance is king when it comes to action!
You're a brave man Ash! Hopefully there are "use by" dates on the packaging 😊. Great entertainment and a fun way to start the day. One observation - is there a chance you were using the stove upside down? If you'd used it the other way up the sides would have provided a more effective wind break?
I'm from Spain. I think it' s easy to tell what is tuna, even without taste it. And please, first the fish and then the meat. Spanish food is the best in the world. Thanks for your review. (The mint jelly is toothpaste!).
Lots of tins to jangle about after moving from the harbour area. Hardly conducive to Close Target Recces or stalks. Probably quite heavy compared with the boil in a bag UK ration packs that we use. In Spanish military rations, cracker bread is packaged separately. It is not included in the lunch or dinner package. Delivered separately in separate packages.
The can of tuna in olive oil contains a select cut of tuna and not shredded. The latter would be much cheaper.
"doesn't give much indication of what's in there", it says in capital letters "VEGETABLE SOUP"
I love all the adjectives you use in your british vocabulary. You speak so well with great enunciation and with precision/purpose. Cheers.
If you like that, watch Tim Mosso at the Watch Box channel --not British but great use of words...
Ok
Lovely video, greetings from Spain

Great video Ash, love these ration pack reviews, would be great to see you try an Australian one, keep up the good good work! Aspiring chap Phil

Glad you enjoyed

I always find with the tinned foods they heat through better if you stir them up first, otherwise they burn on the bottom.

good job mate. Those rations-episodes are on my top 3 list. (They share the podium with watches and shaving)
Depending the Spanien MRE you bough you get different things, what you said about the drinks you usually get 2 instant coffees and a type of instant Limonade for example
About the patte problem, you get the crakers in the brekfast MRE wich you should keep for the launch MRE for the patte
There are 2 tipes of instant soops you can get, the chiken shoop and the one you got, the vegetable shoop, the oumount you have is meant to dump everything in your can full of hot water
Regarding the lack of cutlery, I have to tell you that all the soldiers have in their basic equipment a multipurpose knife with that equipment
Spaniards live well. Even in combat.

what about corduroy slacks? you mention chinos a bit but are corduroys a good alternative to jeans and are they stylish enough for a chap?

"Want to see what's about to go in the gob"? You're language is both riveting and very entertaining.

Good morning sirs.
Next time you need assistance with the Spanish language let me know. It’ll be my pleasure. 🙂
Lots of tins to jangle about after moving from the harbour area. Hardly conducive to Close Target Recces or stalks. Probably quite heavy compared with the boil in a bag UK ration packs that we use. That looks like the B4 menu choice with White Tuna, Beef meatballs with peas and the fruit cocktail. I think the hexi burner was upside down too, you were losing a lot of heat from the side. Thanks for the vid Ash.

¡Hola!
I don't find anything funny or interesting in your refusal to do the minimun effort to look up what the words on the tins say. There's nothing adventurous about being a fool who can't tell his audience what's he going to prepare and eat
The best part of the old MOD rat packs was the cardboard box!
Lovely video, Ash, but may I make a tiny, respectful suggestion? I'd recommend chewing with your mouth closed. The eating noises were driving me crazy, and although I suffer from misophonia, chewing with the mouth closed is often suggested in etiquette books. There are times I simply can't eat around people who smack their gobs excessively!
What a terrible condition, really hope you get the proper help sir.
There is an app for phones that does translations of printed material. STEVEMRE1989 uses it, and it spells out very well the contents of the packaging.
