Hello Me Ancient and Ace. Great video, I appreciate the details of the description of the foods that you always provide. I thought that the main course would be almost of a casserole type item, instead of a thick soup, according to the picture. Ya gotta talk Ace into trying some of the things he doesn't want to taste, i.e., the liver pate!! LOL!! Glad to see another new posting. God bless, stay safe.

I heard 100ml too, very skillful talent you have for measuring water.
Patè is a great source of vitamins and minerals, especially iron but its like marmite, you either love it or hate it.
The Russian apple jam is legendary, especially as they give a nice big pouch of it.
Interesting to see that the new Russian mres are now in pouches, the last one I had the meals came in cans.
I really love listening to your stories.
If you made an audiobook or even a written book about all your escapades in the Marines, I would be your first customer :)
The meal looked like a nice thick soup.
    Great review. :)

Brown gatorade? Never seen that before. It's always fun to see what the food of different countries is like. Liver pate is one of those things where you either love it or hate it. I think I'm going to make some this week, your video made me hungry and it has been a long time since I had any. I hope it tastes like the eggplant pate my mom used to make, she's a great cook.

Although the instructions in a US MRE say to place the food bag inside the heater bag, you don't have to. It will still heat up fine as long as the heater stays in contact with the food. Those cardboard sleeves that come with the meal are designed to keep the two in contact even if the food bag is not inside the heater bag. It also helps to have the heating element underneath the food bag, since heat rises. Also, you can use a flameless heater to heat up water for coffee. Put water in the beverage bag and seal it up tight after squeezing all the air out and it all fits in the cardboard sleeve. with the heater. I've gotten good results doing that. Even heating the meal and coffee together. The coffee doesn't get super hot like it would with boiling water, but it can get very warm and is much better than cold water.

    Before you cleanse your palate.....
I'm not a great fan of liver, so when I started on my ration journey I had a bit of trouble with many of the pates. Somewhere along the line, another "enthusiast" suggested that I try eating the pate with the jam (pretty sure it was in relation to a French RCIR). So I did, and man-oh-man, it was GUUUD. Since that time I have developed a taste for all but the strongest livery stuff. When I get the liver, though, I just break out the jam and it's delish. Try it sometime. Cracker, pate, and a smoodge of jam.
When you said you had to cleanse your palate between the pate and the apple jam, I remembered this experience. Give it a whirl, I'll bet you like it.
Also, THANK YOU for another outstanding video. Hoo-rah!

It was trick used by the Filipino mes cooks ad it worked really well. You could drink it; the orange was OK. @@krieger41861 So you just missed the Beirut Hilton/Marine Barracks bombing. We were definitely there at the same time. We had an LP on top of the Beirut Hilton. There were some snipers next to us on the roof. I have a pix of them from when we were all at our posts. I took COLD showers under the hose bib spigot that we raised somehow to above my head (I'm 6' 5"). No shower head, just a spigot where you would ordinarily hook up a hose. It was the coldest water I have ever showered under but it felt damned good in the heat. The cold took my breath away. You were there when the embassy in town was bombed then, as was I. Did you happen to go to the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader show? It was a multi national show. I have pix with an Italian soldier. We swapped covers during the show. The older I get, the more I enjoyed it and the better I was. And NO, I did not make a career out of the Corps......no regrets either. How about you, Jeff?

Cory, I totally understand! We had another incident where the drill instructors had picked out one guy that was good and a natural leader, but he was short and wasn't picked for squad leader at first. In our platoon, they picked the 5 tallest initially as squad leaders. Anyway, they wanted this other guy in so they took us original 5 (4 squad leaders and guide) in the back room and had us do preacher's seats until someone collapsed and gave up. One guy finally did (3rd squad leader as I recall) and the drill instructors replaced him with the recruit they wanted. Fortunately, I did not get fired..... Semper Fi, my friend!
