Mark King's bass absolutely rules this performance; he truly appears like he's having a great time. Then there's Mark Knopfler and his fills. Howard Jones must've been ecstatic to play with such a band. Best version of this song EVER.
I had the absolute AMAZING PLEASURE of seeing/hearing Howard Jones live at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach. I had just to Solana Beach. Those were the best days of my life when I was fearless and moved across the country with little in my pocket and knew no one there. I knew how lucky I was to be living in that moment. If you’ve ever been to Belly Up Tavern or just to Solana Beach, you’d understand. But Howard Jones’s music lives deep in my soul when I was growing up in the 80’s. Thank you Sir Jones for touching so many souls so profoundly. 🙏
I never realized how much Howard Jones was such an amazing singer songwriter performer piano player this was like a perfectly crafted song with such an amazing hook and chorus it just draws you in it's nostalgia's everything I just wow I think this might be one of the greatest songs of the eighties
The problem with Howard Jones is that he’s forgotten a lot when the conversation about 80s music comes up. I’ve been a huge fan of his ever since I was a teenager. Seem like he just disappeared after a while. But he was an intricate part of the 80s music scene. Even here in the states. Granted he wasn’t on the level of Wham! or Duran Duran any of those other English acts. But he stood on his own with great music and great songwriting. Your songs had a sound all the wrong. His style and sound got in your head and stayed there. You could easily pick one of his songs out on the radio. I am I would love to find some current music of his. I’m sure much like Duran Duran, his music just gets better with age.
Phil Collins co-produced (with his musical partner Hugh Padgham), played drums and sang backing-vocals on the single (hit) version of the song, so he knew it well.
What a beautiful and challenging opus you provided to we the public... 😂😂😂 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ An opus with backbone and grime... Was slightly obsessed by the "No one, no-ooo one" hook in this song in the 80s and am now equally slightly obsessed with the guitar and bass work of messers knopfler and king from 4:11 - 4:26.
My God, his voice sounds great live! You know, the real reason Howard Jones was shafted by the critics was because he didn't embrace the Narccissim of the 80's. While Prince, ZZ Top and Madonna were obessed with putting raw sexuality on the table, Howard Jones what asking inquisitive questions like "What is Love?" Or he was sining about simple, positive things. The media resented him for that. You could hear in in the scathing reviews he would get. They would even consciously exclude him from lists of synth-pop pioneers, complexly bashing him, a gay man who didn't TRY to be gay. Howard Jones was a true Old Soul, who sang an played with pure soul. I played this very song on piano as an instrumental for certain parts of the Mass. God Bless you, Mr. Howards Jones. Your sound will never die! - _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_
I wanna go back to the 80's again and again 😉
Quite a lot of talent on this stage! "No One Is To Blame" is an absolute masterpiece from an exceptionally talented singer/songwriter/pianist.

As I listened, I was thinking the same thing - "who's this bass player?" Truly exceptional.
Yes he’s definitely riding that bass
One of my favorite songs from the best decade of my life (1980s).

This song is timeless. It has always been a great song, and will never not be a great song.
Seen him live several times, if you get the chance do it you won’t regret it 👍👍👍
A proper all-star cast backing Howard here - Phil Collins, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Midge Ure, Mark King, Ray Cooper and Elton John!
Midge ure the band
Yeah, not too bad for a little bar band ;)
Does anyone have the official line-up for this premier performance?
And Mark King!
@@gnaflethegarthok3074 I said Mark King.
🎧♥️ June 8, 2023 the song that started my fascination w music in 84'.
Simply amazing ! The 80' s artists made music for other galaxys . Greetings from Patagonia Argentina.
Phil and Mark King just working wonders on this version…
I still get shivers when I see all those huge artists and wonder if Howard still looks back on it in awe...
This song signifies the unreachable quests I imagined for myself in the 1980s. Thank you, Howard?
HoJo and Mark Knopfler.
I can’t even❤❤
Wonderful song, brilliant performance, incredible decade 💓
what an epic performance of this masterpiece!
This song is so deep but so real; it'll always be relevant no matter what year it is!!
The lyrics hit me today with a old friend I ran into! So sad but great in a way.

That BASS 🔊I love these concerts..wish they were on DVD
Mark King Level 42 ?
Yes.
They are. Three DVD volumes, quite rare/expensive, and only a selection from each gig (which includes this performance), but they are (I have them).
Absolutely phenomenal version of the Howard Jones classic. Thanks so much for sharing! :)
Top of the Morning Mr. Howard Jones kick-ass classic.
Top 5 80s songs ever.
Handy backing group
Really likes this song.

Hey thanks for that tidbit. Just gave the single version another listen.. can def hear Phil's drum machine and vocals. Cool.
It was Phil's best contribution to the '80s.
Think about what Collins was doing: fronting Genesis , about 4 years into his solo career, got Robert Plant’s solo career moving. One busy dude.
Golden yrs today......... not even close. I want to go back to my youth.
I loved this tune in second grade! Summer 86 or 87…

You think he would have brushed on his singing for this performance. Great song. A fantastic and innovative studio recording of the 80's.
Man, that was one non-committal solo from Mark Knopfler.
Yeah, not a proper solo, which would probably be out of place. But he does provide some fine fills of his own.
Is that Phil Collins on the drums?
Certainly is. Phil played drums, sang backing vocals and co-produced (with Hugh Padgham) on the rerecorded single version.
Year?
Was Mark Knopfler ok?
Genial esta musica temazoos😀👍👍👍

Elton john playing hand drums or whatever absolutely out his face on cocaine haha
Dude that’s a guy named Ray Cooper and he’s a legend and coke was not his thing
Elton is playing the tambourine
He cut his hair haward
Howard's voice was his weakness.
Unless one loved his voice, then it was not. Amazing, prolific singer-songwriter. 🎤🎹
Such a beautiful song
