- Filmed at London's Indig02 arena in 2008 and taken from the Howard Jones 25th Anniversary DVD, this rare, one-off performance of 'Wouldn't It Be Good' is a real treat for fans of Howard, Nik and 80s music alike. Many may remember Howard and Nik's infamous popstar rivalry back in the 80s! Fortunately they are now great friends!
The DVD is available to order from www.howardjones.com
We had it good in the 80's... you don't know how good we had it.
Thatcher's UK was not great!!
TheSoupdragon1968 You’re not wrong, however we were overloaded with great music..
It seems that way in hindsight. It always does......But the reality is very different.
@@TheSoupdragon1968 - To be fair, it was pretty fucked up, but I'm not sure it was worse than this. Or maybe it was bad in different ways?
BTW, love the Soup Dragon reference.
Ronin1973 I see what you did there 🙂
I'm a 50 Year Old Dude and this brought me to Tears - What wonderful Memories - the 80's was our Time !!
Yeahhhh
Fucking was!!!!
old twat !!
I got a little teary eyed too! SO GOOD.
I can relate big time! Im 52!
Nice to see two men growing old gracefully. They don’t need to keep trying to look like they did in the eighties. Two talented gentleman.
Only grace will do that. They both have it in spades
Always bugs me when they try to live as though they are still in their 20s……no need to as their music will outlast anything. These two artists do it the right way.
Talented indeed! Both Howard AND Nik are two very talented fellows who turn out awesome tunes!
Well put Michael
😎
Just fantastic to see and hear these two fantastic musicians again. Yes, it was good to be a teenager in the 80's with so many great musicians
To have been a teenager in the 80's is the greatest gift of my life next to my lovely family!
Yes Jimmy, we didn't know how good we had it. The 70s and 80s was a great time for many reasons. Brilliant music was one of those reasons. 👍😁🍺🤣
Amen! Loved it
They say if you remember the 80's, you never experienced them, but that's all b.s. I turned 18 in the mid 80's, and it was so glorious that I wanted to and still do remember almost all of it.
Me too Jimmy☺️
@@lobitome I never wanted things to change, but they did.
I just can't get over the fact that Howard Jones is completely mastering a live performance playing another musician's song live single handedly on keyboards ; playing all it's parts ; the guitar riffs the middle guitar solo , and the main keyboard riff of the song , all by himself on a keyboard , live in front of audience , what is the magnitude of craftsmanship does he own as a musician
Totally underrated keyboardist... not to mention his overall production abilities on his own 80s records. He programmed everything - drums, bass lines, pads, synth leads. Such a talent.
That’s what I was thinking. Absolute second nature for him.
He was classically trained in piano. This song is a piece of cake for him.
Easy for him
He’s an mamazing keyboardist/pianist check out live aid wow!
And he’s still using a Fantom G8 to do it - all time greatest board…
Pure talent and two gracious gentlemen!
You know you've written a good song when it also works acoustically. And this absolutely nails it.
You Know You've Written A Great Song When It Has Stood The Test Of Time, Sounds As Great As It Did When You 1st Heard It With An Understanding Of The Lyrics Having More Meaning Now Than They Ever Have!!
Dear god, he’d played about 3 chords before I started tearing up 😥 adored both of these artistes back in the day. I’m nearly 52 and I’m almost speechless - this version is just beautiful 🥰
Agree.💜
Thank God I'm not the only one! ❤

Same here my friend
I remember watching the video for the original song on Friday Night Videos. Still an amazing song. Also 52. :)
I feel completely humbled watching these two 80s rivals perform together. I'm 50 and remember them both battling for no1 for years. Just amazing respect and chemistry
I adore this, im in tears I always say I wish I was born in the 80s because everything was amazing. I'm 16 and all I listen to is 60s/70s/80s/90s. 😭😭
Good on ya Leah, it was AWESOMEEEEE, keep rocking :)
@@darrenrobertw this is one of my favourite videos to ever exist. 🤩🤩🥺🥺
@@leahellie749 hey Leah, nice to hear from you. Yes, it's pretty cool, Nik was awesome in the 80's as well, they were fun times but enjoy being young like you are now :)
Every time is good. Current one is good too.
Aged like fine wine.
Just love one another no matter what time period you're in.
Howard fucking nails the sax solo doesn't he ?
I'm 65 and it brought me to tears 😢 Life, live it. 🌴🌴
良い曲は何十年ぶりに聴いても良いですね。懐かしい、素晴らしい❤
Almost 40 years have passed and I still love these guys so much. Two gentlemen. Thank you for your music. You made my youthness wonderful.
I'm 63 years old and still a big fan of both these guys, wishing Howard and Nick all the very best... Still rockin'
I'm so glad I was a teenager in the 80's.
Daisy Menjivar best times for me too as I watch this tears run down my face with memories
It seems like a dream world looking back from this current time :-(
Me too! Great times!
Nostalgia is a powerful feeling but if your honest good old times good because they have gone
Same here!
If a song is good 40 years later, it says a lot. New wave and synth pop songs where often discredited because they were supposedly simple musical lines. But it takes a lot of talent to write pieces that where catchy and emotional.
Who is watching this in 2019 and still loving this..???!!!
ME!! Omg I love nik Kershaw. He was my teenage idol.Im loving what they both done here.Feeling kinda good that 80s was my time.Im 50 now.I wanna be young again to re live this time. How I miss my youth.xx
Yup! :), what a brilliant performance!
Sharon Nicholson I had the only album that had this song - Pretty in Pink soundtrack - my record was on repeat.
Cousin Billybob meeeeeeee absolutely

Not a native speaker. Back in the day it was just an awesome song. I didn't know a word about english. But... "Wouldn't it be good if we could wish ourselves away?" (I can't think of an easy way to translate this to spanish, Its so subtle) and that mantra like "I don't wanna be here no more" Maybe its just me, but it gives me the chills. He was so young. I am so old. Some important things take a live to learn. After all, an awesome song.
This is awesome. I'm 67, there was some great music in the eighties after all
1955-1995....the golden age of pop and rock. Sad we'll never get it back.
So true. So true!
Bloody oath, mate. What a time we had.!!!
I was born in 1970 ... we were lucky, these two Gentlemen made our "teeneger music"
me too
Ditto. I even bought the single back then, still have it somewhere in my attic.
Me too. What great times.
Yep, another 1970 boy! Howards New Song was my first "Synth" single! We were very lucky to have musicians like these entertain us when we were going through our growing pains!
Yes sir! October 1970 and I would not swap my pop culture for any other. Not the 50's.60' 70's and anything after the 90's was not worth listening to.
This song has carried me through so many ugly moments in my life that I can’t help but feel like it’s been my “theme song” forever
I too discovered this song during a season when I was very lonely and afflicted... It will forever be on the soundtrack of my life for such times, especially when I'm ready to move on.
1980 people, the future will be asweome
2020 people: I want to go back to the 80s
😥😥😥😥😥😥😣😣😣😣😣🤔🤔🤔, true,,, sadly true
In a heartbeat
If only🤔
Yes :-( very true and I am sad about it. I was really happy in these times. Not now in this chaotic digital crazy world.
It was never going to be better than the 80's... ever.
Just sent this to my oldest Sis, she always liked Mr Kershaw, these songs and the era that birthed them, truly truly magical. Feel blessed and grateful to have lived in those years, they weren't easy but they were ours.
This just showed me how privileged I was to have been a teenager growing up and listening to this music in that 80s generation, these two men were a big part of that era so thank you both very much for contributing to my teenage years because it was a wonderful time of life
Not only yours, mine and millions !!! I have taught my kids about the 80s. We have heard so many songs and they both love it ♩💚🎵
Privileged and honored! Amen, brothers
"Don't wanna be here no more"...Take me back to the eighties, and FAST!
Absolutely thrilled to see these 80s pop icons in a stage together. Beautiful acoustic version. Nik's voice still kills it!
I was 35 years old when this music was around .72 now and still love it to bits.Classic sounds.
Can you hear me? Lol!
Thank you for share your comment, im glad to see a legitim man from 80's.
Greetings from Brazil.
I was sitting at the train station on a beautiful cloudy day when I accidentally stumbled across this one here and I almost teared up. It was just one of those strange moments 😢
this is stunning: they're not just respecting each other's art, they both seem to be a little humbled to be appreciated by the other. Titans both.
Astonishing respect between artists. To sit and play background while someone else sings your song!!!! Incredible
the rivalry between these 2 guys was legendary, glad to see they patched things up... I'd be honored if some fans of under-the-radar mid-80s classics would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of LIFE IN A NORTHERN TOWN by Dream Academy and MARY'S PRAYER by Danny Wilson on my YT channel in tribute to the era. Live acoustic with no digital enhancements. Thanks and Happy '020 to all.
@@willritter4076 I will be honored to attend. Thanls a lot!!
Yes
A time machine back to the 80’s please.
Antaire I’ll buy a ticket on that
Had the honor of meeting Howard Jones. I was so nervous. What a kind soul. His mother used to help run his fan club. I still have hand written replies and photos from her. If they had any idea how much they touched my life. Helped me through some rough times through my teenage years into adulthood. Now my teenage boys are fans. My 14 year old son plays piano quite well. Shout out to all of Howard’s die hard fans. Where does the time go....❤️
Me too!! Hojo was my first concert and I too a member of his fan club and have saved a letter his mom wrote me. Such a kind man!
l luv how you see the old bands of the 80's had a unwritten bond and respect for each other, that shows even till now. Nothing like todays artists, who don't even care about their craft. Just how much money or controversy they create.
Beautiful. I'm crying. I'm 59
. love Wendy Sheffield.
These 2 guys made 1984 the best year in music ever!
Agree I think a lot of people vote 1984 the most iconic and memorable year for music.
Human League, Haircut 100, Thompson Twins and Level 42 were not to bad in the pop game either.
@@barrymurphy4812 Yes true. All class acts.
@@dianewebb5772 i think 1984 was the best music year of all time and its all down to these two guys
Well, I'd say they had help. :)
Howard Jones being a true gentleman and artist playing a simple piano so Nik Kershaw shines.
This version literally gives me goosebumps listening to it. Two Icons of the 80s still absolute legends.
In my opinion, this is an absolute perfect brilliant pop song. Thank you Nik.
This is the defining song of the 80s for me. Sounds as good as it always has been. Timeless. Hats off to 2 legends - Nick and Howard!
There's magic in songs like this.
I'm tearing up listening to this. Its brings back so many wonderful but painful memories as a young boy. The memories of loves lost. All the heartbreaks encountered all the rejections until you find the perfect love. And you are grateful for all the pain you had to go through to find it.
Had a big smile on my face when I watched this, brought back so many memories from the 80s. Love the chemistry between Howard and Nik
Im only 13 years late in finding this, but so glad I did.
I remember it like it was yesterday. I was at this show and the atmosphere was amazing

How am I just finding this?!?!? This is EVERYTHING!!!!
Omg how gracious and beautiful is Howard? 🥰
You nailed it
How gracious and beautiful are both Nik & Howard?? I got biggest crush on Nik (with his full head of 80's hair) when I was 12 at.... when? 1885??

Howard Jones and Nik Kershaw are two of the absolute greatest and most talented British pop recording artists of all time! There is no way in Hell the music by today's standards will ever compare to the classic music of the eighties! Recording artists back then were far more influential and brilliant like these two have always been. Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey and Britney Spears will never ever match the level of talent that Howard Jones and Nik Kershaw have to this day!
Howard Jones and Nik Kershaw are TRUE legendary pop music icons!
~Dutch
YouCantHoldOnTooLong Vocally Mariah Carey is unreal. I can see lumping the other 3 but Carey is an incredible, incredible talent. Vocally her and Aretha Franklin might be the two best living that are not in the Opera world. If you are talking other talents within music I agree but from vocals alone Carey is pretty darn strong.
***** Well, it's not necessarily her voice that I can't stand. It's her style of music. I've always hated the sound of her bubblegum pop tunes and plus what ultimately drove me nuts was how the kids I went to school with years ago just overplayed her music to death at school dances. Plus she has done a few cover songs rather than things of her own and plus she sampled Genius Of Love by The Tom Tom Club for her song "Fantasy". That was a prime example of something extremely pathetic! Sampling music is obviously one of the worst things a recording artist could possibly do.
You do have a point about her uncommonly unique vocal talents, but truthfully I can not stand Mariah Carey's music.
~Dutch
Makes perfect sense. I don't like the sampling of music at all but we are at a point in music where it's very difficult to not take elements from past songs. I have a pretty keen music element sense and nearly every song I hear leads me to taking chords, progressions, drums, etc. from a song of the past that is recognizable.
+YouCantHoldOnTooLong I couldn't agree with you more and yet when you listen to the lyrics are Kershaws albums its hard to believe written by such a young man back then yet so advanced like Faces and Cloak and Dagger. Its a shame todays Music industry is destroyed by Simon Cowell etc and real Music doesn't stand a chance
+YouCantHoldOnTooLong Agreed, they are great.
Thomas Dolby, as well.
Oh, Elvis Costello.
Difford and Tillbrook.
Maybe some guys named Lennon and McCartney...
Many of pop and rocks greatest have come from the UK. And thanks for that, UK!
Never forgotten the best years of my life the 80'S :-)
If you are 15 yrs old, and watching this, it must give you so great memories of the past. LOL
The wife and I were on the front row at this concert, just infront of Howard's keyboard. The whole concert was amazing. Always been a fan of HoJo from first hearing New Song, met him on occasion, a true gent.
I'm an 80's child and I get a lump in my throat listening to this x
It's a testament to Nik Kershaw's great songwriting skills that this still sounds amazing, just stripped down to a guitar and piano. The chords, the layering, the melody....plus the friendship of two people who have been through the music industry over the past 30 years and lived to tell the tale.

Doesn’t get much purer than this. The 70s / 80s represented variety. Evolving music genres & trying new stuff. Some remarkable songs were produced from unbridled talent
It was a dark tune to an upbeat sound, striped down you can hear how dark the song is.
@@Wheeler590 Completely agree with you all - taken back to guitar and piano demonstrates just how good a song it is.
I heard an interview with rick wakeman, the keyboard genius, he loves the 'the riddle' by nick, so even the old school musos know how good he is.
How amazing is this.!!❤ Wish I had been in that audience. I was a child in the 80's so brought back good memories for me
Just amazing how this raw slowed version brings out the deep meaning of the song so much more than the original ever did. It's heartbreaking and poignant.
Both awesome artistes♥️ So glad to be brought up in the 🎼 of that time☺️
The words have me struggling to keep the tears back as i sing along. My simple life is now a faded memory and the young man that sung this 20+ yrs back has kids and grandkids of his own. Thank you for a beautiful song that lets me return there for a short while... god bless.
This comment brought me to tears, maybe because I’m 58 and it seems impossible that this much time has passed. Thankful though that we are seeing this Covid disaster getting better. Still.....the 80’s was a beautiful time. So glad I have my memories snd songs like this.Peace and Love
❤️
Steve Albert 🙏👍...
I've looked a very long way down these comments without seeing a negative. And that I find is pretty rare. It is a very distinctively unusual song - brooding and grumbling verse with unpredictably inventive chord changes, that unexpectedly bursts seamlessly into one of the the most joyous and heartwarming extended hooks in pop history for the chorus.
Yet even the chorus trades in melancholy. It’s a very chromatic song. This live version also doesn’t have the prominent, unsettled counterpoint melody of the original song.
Thank you, I completely ( totally ❤ ) agree.
His voice is still crazy, awesome!!!
Amazing song!! Great Duo . Thank you.
what are all you geezers honking about 'music used to be so much better way back in the 80's'. this is from 2008. it was made and brought into existence in 2008. stop forgetting that.
I have watched this several times. I feel some kind of sadness that the 80s are long behind us, and also that we all go through the ageing process, but I love that I really get to hear the raw talent of two of my favourite artists from the 80s playing together. It’s so special.
Forever 80's, simply the Best music for all the time.
Howard is so gifted and such a warm and genuine-feeling person. Always appreciated his talent.
11 year old video I just saw for the first time. Now I’m going to listen to it about 100 times in a row.
Sublime!
Thank goodness I found this today. I’m a 52 year old rocker, and I can recognise great musicmanship from miles away. Fond memories from the 80s.
It’s a special thing when musicians give you a version of a song from your youth that reflects the years live between then and now.
Hello Anna...nice meeting you here...I hope you are having a nice day out there?
Makes the hairs on my arm stand up and brings tears to my eyes. Thank you Mr Ledbury for a beautiful piece of music.
I'm 50 and this brought me to tears.....such wonderful memories - the 1980's ...that was our time !

I can’t believe it. Almost every kid nowadays can say he is 50 😂. Anyways, watching this and reading comments here is like comming home. BTW, born in ‘70.
Wish I was there. My favourite song growing up in the 80's!
It would be good to be there in my shoes! 😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
The lyrics of this song stopped me cold in light of the current pandemic. I'm 57 and Nik Kershaw was in my College Days 'wheel house'.
57 here too and something lead me to this song today. Everything is so uncertain so it’s nice if some music can take us back to simpler times. “Wouldn’t it be good” if we could go back even if it was for just a short while? May peace and good health be with you and yours and anyone else who is reading this during these uncertain times.
@@cinnamongirl7877 another great song I've added to my 'Pandemic Playlist' is the song Memories by Maroon 5. The lyrics are amazing and the melody is based on Johann Pachelbel's Canon & Guige in D who is listed in the song writing credits. The lyrics just about tears me up thinking of family and friends living and past.
Thank you for that recommendation Andrew. If it weren’t for music, I’d be lost.... not just during this pandemic but in my entire life. Please pull up Ah Ha’s “Take on Me”..... the solo acoustic version. It will take you back in time. That song used to be the big dance song but listening to this particular version.... it brings tears. I don’t know your taste in music but lately, I’ve been listening to a lot from the folk genre. If you’ve never listened to Simon and Garfunkel in Central Park, please watch. I don’t see how ANYONE could not enjoy it. I believe it was around 1981. I was the youngest of five siblings so I was taught well when it came to music. I can remember being around seven years old and just knowing that “The Sound of Silence” was very special. I still adore that era of music. Enjoy!!!!😉😉
Takes me back to my teenage years, spikey hair, fluffy home knitted jumpers, boiler suits and DM's. Love it ❤
I sold there records in my shop in the disc ‘n’ tape in
Accrington back in the 80s
And met Nik ❤️❤️❤️
I rememer being 8 or 9 when this came out. I saw it on night trax. We didn't have mtv back then. It hit me to my core when I heard it. It never got much airplay where I lived. Thank Goodness for youtube to bring all of you wonderful people together to listen to this gorgeous track.
Oh yes, we can never stop listening to this music and for the talents of all of Howard's singing partners.
I'm 43 and consider it an BLESSING and HONOR to have literally grown up in the 80's
That was amazing. These guys are just the coolest ever, and so appreciative of each other.
Wish I was there. Great Performance
Two different artists . Appreciate the fact they can both perform on the same stage. 🎉
This is absolute genius. Two of the most slickly produced artists of the 80s stripped down to a. piano, a guitar, and a hauntingly moving voice. This is what talent sounds like. and none of today's autotune dependant, no-talent hacks (I'm looking at you, Justin Beber and Miley Cyrus) could pull this off with the help of God and all His angels.
McGregor Mathers
and then some .
...agreed ..
T.K. Bertram I must say it's even better than the original version
T.K. Bertram I miss this music. My parents were still alive back then. The music made you feel free.
I'm no Bieber fan, but he surprised me recently when he did just that, sang a few of his songs all on his own playing an acoustic guitar at that One Manchester concert.
Wow, two legends. Epic moment this was.
Hey in case you didn’t know this song reaches out to us who randomly needs to hear it. Thanks for this.
@Howard Jone music is such an important part of my life. It’s gotten me through so much.

Thank you guys for that performance! I loved hearing this stripped and slowed down. It revealed a whole new song to me, even though I’m 50 and have been hearing it most of my life. What wonderful chords! Great arrangement!
Yes and it woulda been nice if the cameraman captured those chords on screen
Amazing how this power-pop song translates so well into a movie acoustic ballad. Both Howard and Nik are so underrated that it`s not funny.Wonderful, wonderful music performed with grace and elegance.

Song of my lifetime and two of my lifetime heroes on stage
Here in 2021. This gave me goosebumps
What can I say. Left school in 85, met my wife in 88. The 80's were a brilliant time. Even my daughter who turned 18 this week loves the 80's. As she said the music you had back then was awesome, better than the shit my generation have today.
You can tell by the crowds reaction that it was a total surprise that Howard brought Nik onstage. excellent reception by two rivals in the 80's.
Theres musicians then theres good musicians then theres mr howard jones and mr nik kershaw. What a treat to hear these 2 amazing artists together
