Awesome work Kevin! You always catch the details.
Thanks for watching! Please share!
Awesome review Kevin! I've been waiting all day to watch the comprehensive review. Yamaha knocked it out of the park this year! 4 stroke superjet and awesome GP1800 SVHO.
Thank you, but remember that this was NOT a review, just an introduction of the 2021 model line. Reviews are coming soon.
Amazing video! Yamaha has really hit it out of the park for 2021!
We think so too!
When they match the debris removal that Seadoo released, then yes. This coming from a vx and fx svho owner.
What a great review Kevin! This channel is always full of good info. Thanks for the work.
Thank you! Please share a video with your friends!
Nice colors. That blue GP looks really good! The FX in the lime green too!
It does!
Yamaha continues to raise the bar in the PWC industry. These new 2021 models are impressive.
Yeah they are!
Great review Kevin, thanks for sharing!
Billy D
Thanks for watching!
Awesome
Excellent reviews, Kevin!...and just when you think Yamaha can't top the previous year, they do.
No doubt!
Thank you for the informative video! Was a Sea Doo guy and was going to get a GTI Se 170, but I just reserved the VX Cruiser HO with audio.....primarily based on your reviews! Seemed like the Yama tech was going to be easier to use! Thank you!
Glad we could help! A full review of the '21 VX Limited HO will be out in October.
That 4 stroke superjet must be insane. Next up an SVHO Superjet.
Rod Z spank it at what ? Racing maybe. Not jumping waves
Rod Z Yamaha is more interested in mass appeal and acceptance. Being environmentally conscious allows them to be sold in all 50 states. No racing license necessary, plus it is a quality machine with a lot of improvements.
I have the FX cruiser SVHO and it incredibly fast and nimble
@@JetSkiSuper7 Because it weighs 100 lbs less than the SS Kawi. IMO they both suck. I have a 2011 SXR and two 2014 SJs and they are WAY more fun than those 4 stroke POSs.
mike h Hence the appeal to the (fat) masses..!!
AWESOME / Just put a deposit down on a GP1800 ho / Red & White with Integrated speaker upgrade, CANT WAIT🤘🏼
That's awesome! Let us know if we helped in making that decision.
Great info -thanks! KDW Photos!
Thanks for watching!
Well done.
Kevin Lamb thank you and please share this with your friends!
Finally!
I love the new FX Cruiser! crazy powerful
It's one of our personal favorites.
So sic!!!!!!
Great work! What is the Speed Adjust for on the right handlebar of the GP1800R? It seems like it would be for some type of cruise control, but I figured it would have been mentioned as a new feature if it was.
We detail it in the article. We'll also have a tutorial on it in the full review.
Excellent review. Will you be covering the 2021 FX SVHO model changes soon?
Individual reviews of the SuperJet (next week) and the GP1800R SVHO (later this month) are coming. As well as the new VX Limited HO and EX Limited.
Seadoo was making some gnarly skis, I’m so glad to see Yamaha raise the bar again, still loving my ‘17 vx cruiser HO!
Same here!
Did they make any changes to the FX series? Specifically the non supercharged ones.
As stated in the video and in further detail in the linked article, NOPE. ;)
I'm getting one for next summer i am really happy that i waited for the 2021 models they seem like night and day compared to the 2020 lineup
You better put a down payment down. They're disappearing fast.
If I’m looking for a waverunner in the ex series, do you think the ex limited is most worth the money out of all the other ex’s?
Only if you think you'll need all of the accessories that come with it. If you don't, then there's no reason to pay for them.
Kevin, Does the 2021 GP1800 have more leg room for us tall guys? I feel scrunched up on the current model GP
Since the seat is more narrow and the footwells are wider and deeper, you shouldn't feel as compacted as before. It's marginal but just might be enough. Of course, standing up while riding is MUCH better thanks to the tilt steering.
@@watercraftjournal When can we expect the full review of the 2021 GP1800r? and thanks for all you do!
In about 12 days.
Can you guys make a video of the fx series I know there no changes but would like to see colors before I leave desposit especially on the fx limited
Unfortunately it is pretty unlikely that we'll be able to get our hands on one any time soon.
I just bought a 2017 gp1800....is it possible to add the sound system to this ski??? Or is it limited to the newer models? Great job on the video...love the effort and info you guys
Unfortunately no, it's for the new deck design.
I am in the same boat with my 2020 GP1800. The only downfall it has is no capability for speaker additions. Sucks!
DuhKoDuh you can mount a bluetooth speaker to any PWC.
Eric Lechleitner check out Pwcbrackets.com
What are your thoughts on the 2021 VX H.O? Just paid my deposit for the black and yellow. First time ski buyer, but have rode multiple times. I’m hoping I love it.
We'll have a FULL review later next month.
Definitely filmed on Lake Allatoona
You are 100% correct.
@@watercraftjournal thanks for the vids. The water is really clear the 1st and 2nd week of April at the waterfall on Allatoona. I’m sure people give you ideas where to film etc. etc. but I want to turn you onto Lake Jocassee. Fantastic Mountain backdrops, and clear water. depending on water level you can take your ski behind a waterfall as you can see in some of my vids. Several larger waterfalls to I have in the background. I’ve been team Yamaha since my 1998 GP 800 purchased new. I’m in the market to upgrade my current Yamaha. My Sea-Doo buds give me crap but you know how that goes. May 2021 be a fantastic year for ya🤟
We definitely want to go! We frequent Allatoona because that's where Yamaha does the vast majority of its testing and owns a dock where they keep much of their fleet.
Will the rear seat from the VX Cruiser HO fit the GP1800 R HO?
LOL. That's an interesting question...I don't really know. The rear hand rails should be the same, making the mounting points identical. But again, I don't know.
@@watercraftjournal Thanks, from what I gather the hulls are the same. Purchasing soon - I'd like the GP but the wife will not have the flat seat. Would also buy a rear VX seat if it worked.
How many horsepower have gp1800?
252bhp on RIVA's dyno.
So, no power increase on the 2021 GP1800R SVHO?
Want more power? install the Riva kit. It is already a great engine for recreation.
No but dramatically improved acceleration and cornering.
I have the FX SVHO. How much faster do you really need to go? When I hit 70 mph on the water it scares the shit outta me! ...YO!
Let me tell you what these manufacturers are missing. Many new buyers are day users who hitch them up to the trailer and go ... they want to explore the lakes, particularly in Canada where we have the most lakes of any country in the world. What do those buyers want? Built in GPS with tracking. Yes, I know you can buy them as accessories but the need to spec them into the product.
That's an expensive addition, but you're not wrong. The touring/adventure segment is growing, and BRP has the numbers of people adding its Fish Pro GPS package to non-Fish Pro units (and they're substantial).
Hi Kevin. Looking to trade in my 2016 VXHO for a new 2021. Can't decide to go GP1800R HO or VX Cruiser HO. The trim is nice, nanoxcel 2, both have no wake and cruise now. My question is, did the move the gas tank on the vx models too or only the gp models? Input would be great
The gas tanks were moved on ALL VX and GP models.
Which would you buy? GP1800r HO or VX Cruiser HO?
What our needs are different from yours, and each does something differently. That's like asking, "What shoes should I buy?" Well, what is your intended use?
@@watercraftjournal I've decided on a new GP1800R, just need to decide on the HO or SHVO version. Coming from a VX Cruiser HO I've been extremely happy with the NA 1812cc. However, if you're upgrading...I might regret not going for SVHO.
I get a GPR vibe from the GP refresh.
You're not the only one!
12v outlet should be in all waverunners... nice that they put it in the VX hopefully its in the FX models now also.
Wait a year.
@@watercraftjournal That means that 2021 FX models dont come with 12V outlet? :(
Hello Kevin I made a $500 deposit for the new 1800 R SVHO. I would like to know your opinion did I make the right choice between that or the FX series
It all depends on your riding style, how you plan to use it, and where. It's a race machine first, not a cruiser.
Thank you for responding I definitely like to have fun on the water go fast turn corners I live in Jacksonville Florida and we have lots of grass flats they basically turn into water race tracks but I guess my question is is the GP decent for cruising as well can it actually fit two or three people like they say And is it stable enough to pull the tube if I want to have fun with my kids again thank you for responding I really appreciate it
It definitely has the power to pull a tube, but you're asking a sport bike to serve as a highway cruiser. The FX SVHO is the better option for your intended use. Too many folks buy the sportier model and find that it's too specialized to fit their wider needs.
I am trying to decide between an EXR and a VX cruiser. I think the EXR would be more fun and meet my needs. Has anyone towed behind an exr?
I bought 2020 ex deluxe and have done towing tube no problem! Absolutely love my ex deluxe
@@Josiahkelly7 thanks for that information.
I have a 2020 EX Sport. It’s an awesome ski for sure. Just put a Riva ride plate and it’s even better.
EXR is more for horseplay. We suggest a EX Limited. See our review for that.
Awesome video! I'm going to be a first time waverunner buyer. I'm looking for an all around craft. Would the VX Limited Ho be a good choice for some saltwater touring, tubing, kids, solo, etc...Thanks for your reviews. They're well done, and very informative. I'm also looking at the GTX 170 Sea Doo. Any suggestions?
The GTX won't have all the fun accessories that the Limited has, especially not the sound system or tube, etc. Plus, the VX Cruiser HO (the non-Limited twin) has remained the TOP selling PWC for 3 years in a row - all for a very good reason.
stay away from seadoo. personal experience
@@jamesyu0205 What went wrong?
@@donaldwest9103 carbon seal , just google it. i wish i did before i bought my brand new GTR 230.
jamesyu0205 it doesn't break on its own
What about hp Anychange?, and also is the mph gps or someone in yamaha needs to know we are in 2020 on a 2021 model not 1990
No horsepower changes, no top speed changes - it's literally stated in the video and the article.
Sry didnt see about the hp but maybe i wrote wrong what i meant is the display on mph or km still so ridiculous inaccurate as my 2020fx or did they grow some brains and put gps to show actual mph
So when are they going to be available? Tired of empty showrooms due to covid...
They're currently shipping out. Kommander Industries already has SJ's available.
Are these actually available? I checked last week and no one on the west coast had anything in stock and they said they probably wouldn't the rest of the year.
Dealerships will be receiving the 2021 models by late this year. Some have already received partial shipments.
@@watercraftjournal Do you know of any in California?
@@rsstnnr76 You're right. No one has anything. Been wanting to buy two new skis for months. My local dealer told me Yamaha is "sold out nationwide." Covid sucks.
Yes, all 2020 units are sold out. No, I do not know which dealers are receiving units first. Unfortunately, California has shrunk as a marketplace, and fell out of the top 3 states some time ago. I know Kommander in AZ has received some, but I believe those who have made down payments are getting those first.
@@watercraftjournal what about 2021?
I went to a dealer in Azusa, CA and they never mentioned the freebies.
There are none.
yamaha is amazing but 2021 seadoo rxp-x 300 just blows my mind 🔥🔥🔥
Yeah, there's quite a bit of innovation here.
Can you do a review on krasher jet skis
"Krasher?" You mean "Krash"? We had relationship with Krash Industries several years ago. Until they will to access our readership by renewing their program, probably not.
What is the difference between the GP1800R HO and VX Crusier HO?
This is exactly what I’m looking for since I’m not a big fan of the VX cruiser ho colors
Thats what I would like to know same size, hull, weight, besides the seating same ski
@@720sobsessed6 Cruiser turns worse?
The GP1800R HO is made with NanoXcel2 (lighter), top loader intake grate and race ride plate, a racier seat and includes trim control, auto trim (cornering), launch control and tilt steering. The VX Cruiser HO has cruise control/no wake mode, heavier NanoXcel (1) material, and the smaller pump.
The Watercraft Journal which would you recommend for first time buyer? 26 living in Miami and planning to hit the keys and other spots. And yes want to go fast. Was considering 2020 VX c ho but I’m not sold on 2021 colors
The world is in chaos and everyone starts buying waverunners.lol
It's a coping mechanism. You can't attend a concert, go out to eat, see a baseball game or visit an amusement park - so folks are gonna want to hit the water.
I hope they make a new waveblaster
You're not alone.
Allatoona?
Yup!
Great review but don’t you thing the 2021 looks a little weird?
The 2021 what? We talk about 18 units here.
Gp1800
We actually see a lot of the previous GP1300R in the new hood - and the FZR in the profile. We think it looks really good (particularly the blue/white combo).
How can I add speakers to my 2020 GP1800R?😭😭😭
Not this kit. It is specifically for the 2021-up deck design..
The Watercraft Journal I know, but is there anyway I can add some sort of speakers? The only downfall of the 2020.
@@DuhKoDuhCantrell ue boom speaker mount. or custom audio shop could do it for you
DuhKoDuh Pwcbrackets.com
They have cupholder blue tooth speakers that you can add.
Only 100hp on the SJ???
Technically, it's 102.
right? Wish It had the "HO" version at 110hp
You can't get them. The dealer has 0 in my area.
Speakers on jet skis? 🤔
Where have you been?
I get why yamaha is leaning in this direction.....but doesn't it seem that these newer skis....awesome as they all are....are just going to be more and more expensive to fix when things go wrong....are they getting too high tech maybe???
Eric Lechleitner technology will always march forward; but people are wanting more features and accessories - so it’s hard for OE’s to not give in to their demands.
Pourquoi il y a un jet d eau à l arrière j aurai jamais un Yamaha pour sa
Because the inventor of Yamaha WaveRunners invented it in 1985. It acts similarly to a "buggy whip" used by off-road vehicles to be more visible to other motorists. The water "visibility spout" is meant to help boaters identify smaller PWC on the water. It is easily disabled in a matter of seconds (just unplug the hose).
They gota get rid of the water port spraying in the air
The visibility spout? LOL, yeah. Too bad it will NEVER go away.
Simple to put a shut off valve
Just take the hose clamp off
Exciting times at Yamaha, they’ll be stealing even more market share with the new line up
Definitely!
Surely all this tech is going to make more problems in the future ?
It's the same operating software used on the Yamaha jet boats for several years now. It's pretty well figured out.
Too bad you can't find one to buy anywhere.
Yeah, they're pretty scarce.
Been eyeing the gp1800R ho... think I'm glad I waited for '21 model.
You better act quick; down payments are being accepted right now.
Lol that shouldn’t even have the gp1800 name let alone the r
Only interested in the superjet
Our full review of the SJ will be live next week.
It tells you mpg I can barley get a mile without a problem on my seadoo
Sorry to hear that.
So specifically for the EXR it looks like there is no change (except the colour scheme)
Or did I miss something?
Sidenote: I just want seadoo to put a 130(or bigger, like wven 230) in a spark trixx, it would be no debate for me then
I just want enough horsepower for my fatass to do tricks with extended variable trim
You're correct. No changes for the EXR. Whether the "Spark X" arrives for 2021 remains to be seen.
@@watercraftjournal thanks for the reply/clarification
I've not heard of the "spark x" is it a rumour of a new model?
Maaaybe.
@@watercraftjournal well I might have to wait till their Lineup is announced
Thanks for the heads up
Any idea when SeaDoo might announce?
Mid-Sept.
AH man I thought Yamaha was going to kick butt with there Rotax engine and redone T3 hull!!! Oh snap wrong video!
PWC-DOCTORZ NOSTRADAMUS pretty sure you’re confusing a 9 year old Sea-Doo for Yamaha’s most successful race craft.
The Watercraft Journal Thx for all you do, but i like to win so i Seadoo!!
Win at what? Certainly not racing, because Sea-Doo hasn't podium'ed in anything other than Pro GP, which is the furthest class from a factory unit there is.
The Watercraft Journal all the years that i raced offshore, all the rec riding, and Pro GP lol!!
PWC-DOCTORZ NOSTRADAMUS Who are you doctor I’m pretty sure we know all the pro guys are you hiding behind the silly screen name for some reason she do
Superjet is hero
It's pretty dang cool!
Good ski but I still believe seadoo rxtx is my pick 🏖
Yeah? Tell us why!
Yamaha is 100 times better than sea doo in terms of maintenance cost
All brands have their issues.
I’m wishing Yamaha would make something to rival the spark trixx
Why? It's a basic Spark with trim control. The EXR has more power, electric trim and is far more fun to ride (more than just wheelies).
Bring back the lightweight 2 strokes. Sick of these 4 stoke boats
LOL, 2-strokes are literally outlawed in 7 states, most lakes in Canada and ALL of Australia. Yeah, that's a great idea...
The Watercraft Journal 🤷♂️
Still running my 95 1100 2 stroke at 52 miles an hour.
Sounds like a copy paste from seadoo sorta deal when it comes to features.
Hmm, there's subtle differences but yes, public demand pushed Yamaha's hand to deliver similar features.
I am so far very disappointed in the 2021 Superjet, Rickter won’t be losing any sleep over that tank. You went from a sports car to a pickup as far as I can tell. Stand ups are the bronco in the corral, not the race horse 🤷♂️.
Yes, but Rickters are $25K compared to $9,500. And the SJ was designed not for professional freestyle but to get a whole new generation of athletes into jet skis.
Good grief, those speakers are so similar to the SeaDoo design ! Have Yamaha lost the ability to draw their own craft ?
Yup, they're pretty similar. But we definitely prefer the audio controls on the dash than having to reach down and forward to toggle songs.
lol where else are they gonna put em its just the best spot
54mph, my stock 2010 SXR 800 is faster, at 56.5mph
Correct. But the SuperJet is 100x's more fun, easier to maneuver and actually rides like a standup is supposed to.
the superjet is definitely not more fun than the SXR 800 and if it was just about handling Id but a fucking polaris octane, NOT A SUPERJET
Taste is subjective.
The Watercraft Journal hahaha, read closer, I have an 800, it handles like a standup, unless your refering to a 1500 or for some reason 550s are true jetskis and your 65 years old, lmao
Yamaha is good for drumkits, as a drummer and 29 year jetski fanatic, they get props for musical instruments, tri tuning forks, but Yamahas skis are just a boat, if it aint 2 stroke, it aint a jetski, cold hard facts
I think that plastic saving cost piece under the seat of the EX line makes it look cheap. Yamaha used it to save cost in the EX line. Now Yamaha wants to use similar cheap plastic parts on the upper models. Definitely looks cheap and the Waverunners are more every year. I think it's a loss for consumers.
Literally not the reason whatsoever, Paul. The reason for the "upper deck" panel is to permit a narrow seat without losing the size of the engine access port. In fact, the upper deck panel allows for a LARGER access port, just like what Sea-Doo has done. Better for mechanics, better for rider ergonomics. And you can paint it, if you want.
@@watercraftjournal Yes it can be painted, but then it should be painted at the factory and the benefits you mentioned will still be achieved. As a consumer I don't want to pay to paint the plastic when I buy a new Waverunner. That is additional cost I should not have to pay for. I have had Waverunners since 2005 and now a 2019 VXR. Never had to paint it to correct a part that looks like cheap plastic because they didn't have it until the EX line. I just see it as cheap looking plastic. It is used to cut cost and it's obvious, just look at Sea-Doos' Spark line. The Sea-Doo Spark was made out of plastic to offer a cheap PWC and so was the EX line. It looks cheap in any PWC, it's cost cutting and the Waverunners are not lower in price. I will not buy a Waverunner with plastic in the future if that is the way Yamaha is going to continue to make them.
You need a racing license to buy jet skis? So stupid, this is why they're not suppose to be making ridiculous license on things.
That was the only way people in EPA restrictive states could purchase the 2-stroke SuperJet.
Annoying bg 🎵 music
Annoying comment.
Ugly very ugly gp 1800
What you talking about Willis?? I love the way the gp 1800 looks....but to each their own I guess......
