  • As you can tell I quite like these quirky looking speakers, while having just a few little niggles. These are small and compact and will fit in with either a HiFi set up or your A/V System as well. With quite a nice low punchy tight bass through to a crisp top end. A pair of speakers that punch above their weight.

    I have a pair of these in my lounge connected to my Rega Brio amp with a Rega Planet CD player. With quality cable and interconnects and sat on a sturdy pair of sand filled stands, they make really surprisingly good speakers. Quite astounding for their size and price. 👍👍👍

    The screws appear to have some kind of glue on them, that's partially why they are very tight.
    Hive port is straight line incisions along the length of the tube, supposed to help smooth airflow. It's also a tapered tube with flares.
    Crossover is 2x coils, 2x caps, 2x resistors. So second order filters.
    Steel laminate core x1, air core x1, poly cap x1, electrolytic cap x1, ceramic case resistor x2.

    I picked up just a single one of these speakers; the surround was detached for whatever reason. Should be easy fix though. Nice build quality for the price. Vented woofer.
    Might be able to turn it into a bluetooth speaker

      Hi Jim, I am not to sure why your comment on the A60 did not appear in the comments section. I have no control on this, it must be a fault on RUclips's spam dectection or something. This has happend a few times in the pass to other comments by others. But I hope you do try again or continue to comment as all comments are very appricated by me. Thanks Michael

    Hi from Portugal.
    I think the new budget speakers play congestionat in compare to old bookshelf. The sound haven't life and stay into the box.

    See if you can get hold of some original MA-series Monitor Audio speakers from the late 70s, Michael. I hit the jackpot with my entry-level MA-16s, back when I first got into hi-fi in 1979, and I remember Kelvin thought very highly of some from further up the range, too.

    Thanks Michael, can you please suggest 3 suitable cables please - budget basement to lower-mid perhaps? The lower in price the better, that won't have too much of a detrimental effect on the sound. Thank you 🙂

      I have just been using Strand 79 cable, very cheap and gives good results on all the system unit I have used it on at the price point I am reviewing and testing. Gives plenty of detail

    Have you had the chance to listen to the Monitor Audio Bronze 100's Michael? Do so if you get the chance. I bought a pair to replace my Wharfedale diamond 230 's which I'd grown unhappy with. The bass extension is remarkable for their size and they are a very agile. The fun factor is reminiscent of the original Tannoy mercury m20 of the 80's for me. Easy to live with and sound very nice on both my Audiolab 8000a and NAD C352.

      I think these will do a good job as any sub £200 speakers for height. These are nice sounding pair of speakers

    does this need an amp? if not, what would you recommend that I can just plug in around this price range

    • @MichaelYates
      @MichaelYates  Год назад +1

      Hi Yes these need an amplifier, I only review passive speakers ones that need an amplifier, you require some active speakers and I have not listen to any to advise you in the right direction, sorry

    how it plays the rock music? Classic heavy metal / punk rock? Could it be as clear as it could be without distracting "bass"?
    What speakers would you recommend for hard rock music (mid range frequenceis)?

    • @MichaelYates
      @MichaelYates  Год назад +1

      These speakers do give a nice tight bass and not overdistracting at all, though can get a little conjested when a lots going on, though these are small speakers so would suit a small to medium size room at medium volume levels, highs were nice, but mids a little subdude. I have only heard and reviewed around 20 or so budget speakers on my channel thus far, of these the Wharfedale 505.2 woud suit I think at a low budget. I would though send you in the direction of Kevin at Ditton Works channel for a man that has had 100's of speakers over his time
