The “Christy pull factor” is a totally valid metric! I think there’s legitimate value in whether or not she can be engaged with a speaker in a blind taste test sort of way, before she knows what it is, who’s it’s made by, how expensive it is or what it looks like.

Andrew - thank you!!! I have a fully set out home theatre and was looking to set up a separate stereo system. My main goal was I wanted a system that is fun to listen to and I would struggle to leave my listening room. Using this review and some other reviews you have done I settled on a combination of: Monitor Audio Bronze 100’s, Rotel A11 Tribute Amp & CD Player. I have added a ATI 1202 Power Amp (using the Rotel A11 Tribute as a pre amp) and an existing Oppo 103 as a Universal Player and a ifi iTube Pre Amp. As you remind us - the only person that has to enjoy this setup is me and I do - thanks in no small part to your (& Kristi’s) entertaining and informative reviews. Sorry I can not provide more feedback but I need to go back and continue listening….

    These speakers are simply awsome.
I have 6 of them in my cinema, including as center. Thw sound is so coherent, clear, punchy and...well....it is just yummy🤣😂🤣
When paired with subs, freeing up the speaker a bit, they sound clear and clean at really high volumes too.
What amazes me the most, is the detailretrival, like, the ability to separate sounds in complex music and movies. Take Ready Player One, race sceene, and focus on the different cars bikes etc. It is easy to follow the sound of eacy individual. I just love these speakers😊
Also, I can not recomend enough to have identical spakers all the way (my atmos channels are not identical, not yet.. Bronze 100 is a bit big for my ceeling🙈).
    Love you guys 😊

I am currently designing a speaker; I am waiting on crossover parts right now. When designing it, I have aimed to have the most neutral response within a +- 1.5dB window. My design is an OB 3-Way speaker. I am using a 4" Planar, 5 3/4 Mid, 8" Bass. Once I get an in-phase linear response, I will see if I want to add any sort of excitement or emphasis in any area. This has been my covid project, and it's been a lot of fun learning about speakers and falling in love with sound all over again. Oh, and I have been hooked on the Soul soundtrack since Christmas.

Everyone should own dynamic speakera once in their life and match it with appropriate equipment which balance it out and then hear the magic! This one is a champion at imaging (not the most accurate) and soundstage (wiiiide). Driving with MB Pro > Ares 2 > A90/Valhalla 2 > Marantz 6007 plus a JBL A120 subwoofer . Stirs!!!

Great review, I recently bought a used Bronze BR2 (not the lastest version) and hooked up to my reliable Parasound HCA-1000A. I was very disapointed, poor lows and highs where lacking clarity. I decided to get out of the closet a matched pair of old Carvers TFM-15CB. For me, the Carvers are no match against the Parasound. So I verical biamp the Bronze and OHHH BOY. The speakers came alive with tenfold delivery. Fast bass and super defined highs. I know this is just one setup I tried, but for anyone considering using the Monitor Bronze I highly recommend to try to biamp them.

Glad the Monitor Audio brand gets some attention. I have the Monitor Audio Silver RX-1's and they are awesome. I compared them to speakers that are more expensive and I prefer the Silver RX-1's . As you said, imaging is so amazing. I really like having Kristi add her input at the end; that should be standard on all you videos :-). If you all liked the Bronze, imaging what the Monitor Audio Silver 100's would sound like? If I were a speaker designer, I would emphasize: engagement. I love your outtakes.

  • @SteebMo
    @SteebMo 4 года назад +1

Much of your conclusions reflect how I feel about my MA Silver 300's. Very "lively" forward in the upper midrange and treble, favoring soundstage width over depth and not picky for amplifier pairing and very sharp imaging. I've noticed that playing with toe-in and listening a little further off-axis can help smooth out some of the high end if that's preferred.

Great review, Monitor Audio is a very serious brand, I'm glad you reviewed on of their products! I have a full 5.1.2 home cinema setup based on the previous iteration of these, rhe Bronze 2's, and they are such fun, dynamic, engaging speakers. They benefit a lot from 1 or 2 subs though, which is expected with their size. Btw loving the production value of your videos, it makes them so smooth, almost relaxing! Thanks!

19:30 If I was a speaker designer, I would emphasize ENGAGEMENT over absolute neutrality because one can design the most neutral speakers as reference speakers, but if they don't engage the listener or one's target market, then what was the point?
It's the difference between someone smiling and being engaged every time they see their car shining in their driveway or while they're driving it versus looking at their car as a mere mode of transportation on four wheels to get them from points A to B. Being engaged by a speaker makes one more engaged in one's music collection or movie collection (if one uses the speakers as part of a home theatre) and surely that's the whole point of having speakers in one's home versus having absolutely neutral reference speakers for recording studio purposes?

  • @decoryder
    @decoryder 4 года назад +1

Highly underrated speakers, I prefer them over my Elac Debut Reference DBR62's. They really shine with a high-current amp. I don't agree with the midrange being 'lean' - that really depends on the gear being used. For example, listening to this review I can hear Andrew's chest cavity, and the room he's in. The midrange is really full and lush in my setup. These speakers really scale well with carefully matched equipment, and will produce astonishing results. I run them with an SMSL M400, a DYI tube Preamp, and an Ossysey Audio Khartago SE.

Thank you so much for this review. I was searching for a pair of speakers for my audio set. My previous speakers were ok, kind of, but I was always playing around with the EQ to make them sound well, depending on the kind of music. After listening to this review and some others about these speakers, I finally decided to buy them. And I'm loving them! They are very versatile, and now I only have to lower the bass one decibel at most on my amplifier for some albums.

I tested Monitor Audio Silver 100 a while time ago, to replace my old Mordaunt Short MS-35ti. The bass on Silver 100 is better, the dynamic is there, but when playing music very loud (I like Metal genre music anyway), my old speaker shined silver 100 easily, especially in mid-region, guitar riffs, snare drum, bass guitar, all better on MS-35ti.
I am interested in this Bronze 100 series because it's cheaper than Silver 100, maybe I give it a try someday.

“The next room test”. Brilliant, Kristi! I’ve often experienced that myself. I used to think it was caused by not being able to see the speaker (like a personal blind test), but I have come to recognize that it’s a real metric. I got that with Tekton Lore Reference speakers. I think it was the 8” woofers. They really got my attention. Unfortunately, they were a little too revealing on poor recordings and got fatiguing over time.

Love this! Putting Kristy's opinion and input into it was great, mostly because her way of describing how it engages her was spot on with me. "It doesn't have to be precise, but it has to engage me". That being said, and don't bash me for this, but, a pair of BOSE 701's- no rear vent, had my attention for a year, then aquired a pair of RCA bookshelf 8" 3-way, and was amazed. I've moved to the Cerwin Vega VE-12 as my final choice due to staying with true 2 channel (no sub), driving them with a NAD 319. With a quality EQ, it sounds impressive. Speaker design in my opinion, unless your job is critical listening, should always be for engagement. If the music doesn't engage you, why listen?

If I were a speaker designer, I would definitely lean towards engagement. I have heard the Monitor Bronze 100 at the local HiFi shop and loved the way they sounded! They had the speaker next to the new B&W 606 S2. Both sounded great and the Bowers sounded clear and present. However, the Monitor just rocked and made you feel the music! I think many people buy speakers because they want to enjoy the listening experience. It is why I have always had Klipsch speakers. They are highly engaging, efficient, and can run on my old Yamaha AVR or my Mcintosh MA5200. That flexibility allows more people to enjoy their product at a wider budget range.
I say bring the music to the masses!

Finally a new 8" bookshelf speaker. I'm still loving my Klipsch KSB 3.1's that I bought over 20 years ago. With or w/o my Klipsch KSW-12 subwoofer, they just sound awesome. When I was shopping for them, I listened to many more expensive Tannoys, Warf dales, etc...these, to me, sounded the most realistic. Now I just need a new receiver as my Outlaw 1050 is starting to drop the right channel pretty consistently. Maybe the Sony 1080 will be a good fit. Will just have to try it out. I get the sense that the pair makes for a great "casual listening" system - maybe not audiophile grade, but the point of this review is that these are fun speakers. Just what I think I've been looking for.

@@markh2038 Exactly. Not audiophile in any sense, but a really good pair. The Bronze can lean too far towards bright bordering on shrill with their wrong pairing. Thankfully, this wasn't the case and it was extremely listenable. Bass was huge and decent highs without the shrill. Enjoy 🔊🎶🕺🏻😁

I really have a thing for bookshelf speakers, so I always enjoy your reviews on these especially. The only thing I have realized in the past, is that most speakers with a bass reflex port towards the wall will cause some unpleasant resonance in most of my rooms, so I try to avoid these and look out for those with a front port or even without any. Great video, as always!

I remember getting into home theater audio back in 2000 and reading Brent Butterworth’s glowing review of the Monitor Audio Silver towers in Home Theater magazine. I bought a pair in cherry without demo (nearest dealer was 4 hrs away in San Fran). I quickly realized my ears hated metal tweeters. First lesson to always demo and not fall in love with aesthetics.

When I bought the integrated amplifier in 2018 I was hesitant with the Yamaha A-S701 Bookshelf speakers to take the Wharfedale Diamond 11.2 or at the time Kef Bronze 2 series and Kef Bronze with the Yamaha A-S301 IA-S501 had a different sound nice clean with vivid expression treble and midrange were moderately balanced, but there was a lack of bass she didn't hear enough bass and that's why I opted for Wharfedale Diamond 11.2 Bookshelf speakers. By the way, Kef Bronze had a really nice clean detailed sound for those who like more pronounced high frequencies.

Right now I’m planing 5.1 home cinema system for my living/dining room. I’m sure that I will use Monitor Audio Bronze speakers. They sound great.
My last question is 200 or 100 for front speakers. The room is 30 square meters ( 322 square feet). 18 square meters TV area and 12 square meters dining area behind the coach. I’m little bit scared that the 200 tower speakers take too much space and would cramp the room.

I really like that monitor audio sound, very fresh in the mid and high range. The bronze BX2 are my first speakers and with the budget I had at the time it was an excellent buy for me, punching way above it's pricerange.
And then a friend of mine who had some more cash to spend bought the silver 300's and I've been jealous ever since. Same sound, but so much better all round.
But even so, I like my BX2s. They look really good without the grille on, and the sound makes me happy... most of the time ... When I forget MA has so much more to offer.

Thank you for providing super detailed reviews in a fun way, which can be easily understood by Non-audiophiles like myself.
Quick question: What do you recommend between Monitor Bronze 100 and Q Acoustics 3030i for 70% Music (Mostly classic rock, Indian instrumental and Jazz on Vinyl with Audio Technica LP120 turntable, and some pop and EDM on streaming with WiiM Mini) and 30% Movies(4K smart tv) played through Marantz pm6007 amplifier? I do enjoy bass as long as it doesn't result in fatigue after listening for an hour or two. The room size is 15ft by 15ft.
Alternatively, do you have a different setup recommendation for my requirement, within a similar price point ?
    Thanks in advance.

I have been trying to decide on speakers.
I watch A LOT of reviews (since there is NOWHERE around me to actually listen to any) - your wife's comments on these speakers may have just made up my mind. She said exactly what I have been waiting to hear about a speaker - that they "move" her - make her want to get up and dance. I, like she, do not care about some abstract neutral "true" sounding speaker (they always sound flat to me). I want my music to grab me! I want it "flavored" a bit (by either amp or speaker). I want to FEEL the music. I want emotion from it.
If these speakers can do that, they make my list!
Thank you for another great review.
On to 4000 reviews of amplifiers. LOL

2:50 "It is possible to get the gold dome tweeter to 'beam' or become a bit aggressive"
I experienced this with the Monitor Audio 50 in near-field listening, even at medium volumes. I don't like bright aggressive speakers. Will the Monitor Audio 100 be better for this?
What if I like *detailed* treble but not aggressive speakers? What do you recommend? Emotiva B1+?

I have had these in my living room TV/movies/Games setup for 6 months. paired with a classic NAD amp .first up the metal tweeter is forward and bright , if you like that great . great for bass and dynamics . they excel at movies/games/home theater . for the price they are not bad for music . great for electronic music . but they are not a smooth/sweet elac sort of hifi sound. the powered monitor analogy is accurate . if you want a really great home theater speaker and good for the price music speaker or you like pop/electronic music primarily these will be great for you . if you want sweet smooth detailed listening room hifi I would pay a bit more for next level BW/focal/elac whatever your taste is .

    • @michaelwright1602

Everything I have read about these is that they are more suited to home theater, good for music, but best for TV. If one needs to tone these down, or tame them a bit, if you are running separates, a Schiit Loki EQ can work wonders. One pairing I have heard works very well with these, tames them a bit, is the Cambridge AXR100. From all of the reviews I have read, the warmer sounding AXR100 is one of the go to two channel amps, supposedly being a good match with the Bronze and Silver lines. I have a separate 2.2 channel setup and 5.2 HT, I primarily bought these for HT, I picked up the Silver 100 and C350 center channel, should be here soon, I just placed the order.
