Dream Theater is considered one of the pioneers of progressive metal. Fates Warning and Queensryche were the first to take an Iron Maiden heaviness and write songs with complex structures like Yes and Genesis. Dream Theater took what those guys started and brought it to the stratosphere. All three bands tour with each other and are good friends. So glad you like it. I have a request in for Fates Warning that's coming in June. If you like these guys you should like them.
Ohh good, you got to see and hear lead singer James LaBrie in full effect, before his vocal problems. In 1994, due to a bought with food poisoning, James ruptured his vocal chords, and then went on tour anyway. He healed up eventually, but it took him a decade or more until he could get his voice back to where he felt pretty good about it. Images and Words, the album this is on, was the band's 2nd record, and first with James. "Pull Me Under" from this album, is one of their biggest songs. And "Metropolis part 1" is definitely worth checking out as well.
Their 2 radio hits were Pull me under and As I Am. The Dance of eternity is a complex piece. But one of my Favorites is Panic Attack. And when listening to this one, you’ll swear you’re having one. Very fitting title.

The song in the opening of the video where it showed them signing autographs is the opening for Metropolis Pt1 in case you ever do get around to that one. Fun fact, they're in the studio recording their 16th album right now and are kicking off a tour at the end of the year. Really would love to see you do either "In the Name of God", "Home", or "Breaking All Illusions" next, unless you wanted to try one of their epics like "Octavarium" or "A Change of Seasons".

Been into this group since 1989 I have never heard one song that sucks. I've never seen a single album that was yuck. They are by far in the progressive metal realm. My number one favorite group.I think overall my number one favorite metal group period. Nobody in a band are better musicians than these guys

The sheer precision of these guys is nothing short of astounding. Their music definitely is not for everybody but you can't deny the pure virtuosity.👍

I didn't know this! I've been jamming to Dream Theater since I was a teen, but I always hated his voice at times. This explains it.
I suggest "Outcry" by Dream Theater, "Bridges In The Sky" by Dream Theater, "On The Backs of Angels" by Dream Theater and/or "Home" by Dream Theater
